Member since: 2/6/2009 | | The Rhino Boneyard: re-releases of the Beginning of the End and Incredibly Strange Creatures | I know everything is in its planning stages, but I keep hearing that the new MST3K re-releases of Beginning of the End and Incredibly Strange Creatures are ShoutSelect releases. Just curious: is Shout Factory going to start putting out old Rhino releases as ShoutSelect offerings? Not that the Rhino sets were bad, but a lot of their episodes were cut short near the end of the run. I don't even think Giant Gila Monster got an official release outside of mail order and being put onto the ill-fated Season 10 set.
Plus--I have to ask this--does Shout Factory have the fantastic MST3K artwork for all of the stories, or is done before each release? Some of them are so awesome that I have to ask. |

Really hoping for "The Atomic Brain" re-release in the future, too. |

While the stinger is short, it would be nice if some of the fans could get some of the earlier releases that are still available. I wouldn't mind a re-release of The Dead Talk Back, either.
Truthfully, I own nearly of the Rhino releases, and I'm thinking of grabbing INCREDIBLY STRANGE CREATURES just to see what is going to be done with it. |

After all, these ARE Shout! Select titles, so we're not expecting to sell more than a few hundred. Steve Vance takes weeks to put together a box set worth of covers, so adding more to the mix will be difficult. I think, if anything, you'd be able to expect video content. Still working out the details, as these really are intended to be inexpensive re-releases for fans that don't already own the originals. I'll keep you informed!

These first two Select releases certainly fit that description. Others would be anything from volume 9 (like Incredibly Strange...), The Hellcats, anything on volume 8, and even Mitchell seems to be OOP now.
Also, would something like Shorts volume 3 be available to use as a bonus on a Shout Select rerelease, or on a box set? |

So the only difference will be the bonus features?
Of course, I paid big bucks for Volume 9. And now its probably going to be rereleased. |

Member since: 1/12/2007 | | RE: The Rhino Boneyard: re-releases of the Beginning of the End and Incredibly Strange Creatures | Yeah, I wouldn't expect Steve's involvement on these for a couple of reasons. First, those posters are costly and since this is a Shout! Factory Select pairing of titles, they have to be done inexpensively. Second, they are incredibly time consuming. It takes quite a long time for him to paint each of those, so the lead time won't really allow him the opportunity to do these on top of the ones he already has due for the next volumes.
As for where they'll be available, I would imagine they'd be available via Amazon, as well. Not positive. But they'll be available through the seller there who handles all of our product. It won't be through Amazon itself.

Of course, there are a few episodes that were in print and that are now out of print that are much more iconic than these. I hope you have some luck getting those back in print one day. I'm really wondering if this is a trial to see how many nibbles they get for single ep's. I went ahead and purchased "Beginning of the End" because I have long ago sold my dvd of it. Sure would love to see a single release of "The Amazing Colossal Man" but it sounds like it is in different hands (ownership wise) than BOTE. But still, that would be a very fine release. And it would finally right the wrong of Rhino losing the rights almost immediately with the VHS.

Ah, I see. I would imagine though this is probably very low on their priority list, but who knows.

Also, thanks so much for re-releasing "The Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living And Became Mixed Up Zombies!!?" I'd never seen the MST3K version and laughed through the whole thing!

I had to log into imdb and give the episode 10 Stars.

No Chapter's, just a "Play Movie" on the Main Menu.

Even fellow fans, I would hope you would keep this topic up as well.
I have been so pleased with Shout! Factory's handling of MST3K. From the artwork, packaging and, most importantly, actual content. Now that Shout! is the distributor of MST3K home video, can we perhaps assume that more previously released Rhino titles will be forthcoming (as Shout! selects, obviously)?
What are some of the most important/obvious candidates for Shout! Select release? I feel these merit serious consideration:
204-Catalina Caper (from the now OOP: Mystery Science Theater 3000 Collection, Vol. 1)
609-Skydivers (from the now OOP: Mystery Science Theater 3000 Collection, Vol. 1)
301-Cave Dwellers (from the now OOP: Mystery Science Theater 3000 Collection, Vol. 2)
518-The Atomic Brain (from the now OOP: Mystery Science Theater 3000 Collection, Vol. 3)
303-Pod People (from the now OOP: Mystery Science Theater 3000 Collection, Vol. 2)
820-Space Mutiny (from the now OOP: Mystery Science Theater 3000 Collection, Vol. 4)
1006-Boggy Creek II (from the now OOP: Mystery Science Theater 3000 Collection, Vol. 5)
821-Time Chasers (from the now OOP: Mystery Science Theater 3000 Collection, Vol. 5)
404-Teenagers From Outer Space (from the now OOP: Mystery Science Theater 3000 Collection, Vol. 6)
408-Hercules Unchained (from the now OOP: Mystery Science Theater 3000 Collection, Vol. 7)
816-Prince Of Space (from the now OOP: Mystery Science Theater 3000 Collection, Vol. 7)
420-Monster a Go-Go (from the now OOP: Mystery Science Theater 3000 Collection, Vol. 8)
907-Hobgoblins (from the now OOP: Mystery Science Theater 3000 Collection, Vol. 8)
207-Wild Rebels (from the now OOP: Mystery Science Theater 3000 Collection, Vol. 9)
514-Teenage Strangler (from the now OOP: Mystery Science Theater 3000 Collection, Vol. 10)
414-Tormented (from the now OOP: Mystery Science Theater 3000 Collection, Vol. 11)
419-The Rebel Set (from the now OOP: Mystery Science Theater 3000 Collection, Vol. 12)
612-The Starfighters (from the now OOP: Mystery Science Theater 3000 Collection, Vol. 12)
402-The Giant Gila Monster (from the now OOP: Mystery Science Theater 3000 Collection, Vol. 10.2)
Also, sprinkle in some if not all of the Rhino single discs. What does everyone think? |

I also wish Shout would include the episode #'s somewhere on the packaging.
I also, yet again, wish to offer my displeasure with the artwork/artist they are using for the MST series.
But, I know this is falling on deaf ears.
Oh well. |

I wonder if it is actually profitable for Shout to release the single episode disks. I really enjoy the sets. Can't wait for Gamera. Also can't wait to find out what comes next... |

Select to be 'The Sinister Urge'. Come on, guys. We all need more Ed Wood in our lives. |

Member since: 5/14/2011 | | RE: The Rhino Boneyard: re-releases of the Beginning of the End and Incredibly Strange Creatures | | Forgive a "newbie" question, but I'm wondering if the sales for these two have been enough to warrant more "Shout! Select" releases of more OOP titles? I was very happy to see these appear, and ordered them immediately through Shout!. Here's hoping for more... |

Member since: 5/8/2008 | | RE: The Rhino Boneyard: re-releases of the Beginning of the End and Incredibly Strange Creatures | Well, since the average prices of the DVDs in the 4 box sets are around $12.50 each, and the Shout! Select DVDs were what, $25.00 each and didn't require Menus or commissioned cover art, I'd think the margin for profit would be a little higher with the Shout! Select episodes (but then, I don't know how much B.Ward has to pay for the licenses to publish these reissues).
I'll throw my vote in on this one mentioned earlier:
207-Wild Rebels (from the now OOP: Mystery Science Theater 3000 Collection, Vol. 9)
That's another episode that I missed out on.
Waiting patiently for August and the Gamera set release. I rather of hope we can squeeze one more Shout! Select title out of B.Ward before then, but I won't hold my breath on that one.

Member since: 12/23/2008 | | RE: The Rhino Boneyard: re-releases of the Beginning of the End and Incredibly Strange Creatures | I actually own all the Rhino sets (Vol. 9 and 10 inclusive) and own all the Rhino singles, so the singles don't apply much to me personally. But I think SF's attention to these OOP episodes is awesome! 0511 Gunslinger is fantastic - the next to last Joel ep, plus truly hilarious. 1009 Hamlet is an ok ep, but not among my favorites from the Sci-Fi years.
I'm glad to see these OOP episodes getting some love. I still may purchase the SF singles down the line just to support the cause, and I hope singles keep finding their way to the SF store!
I'm also excited for MST3KvG to arrive at my door in two months...too long, but it'll be totally worth it! |

Vol 9 & 10) I was surprised to see the choices for the second release of MST3K on Shout Select. Aren't Vol. 4 and Vol. 6 still in print? I just went over to Amazon and you can buy Vol. 6 brand new. Also, I see Vol. 4 in Barnes & Noble all the time. I'm curious to know which volumes and singles are out of print. |

I was willing to shell out $130 each for Volumes 9 and 10 about 1 year ago. |
