Complete Dean Martin Variety Show
I can't think of no other company than Shout to release the complete Dean Martin Variety Show season by season. Right now the only ones that are available are the infomercial ones that are released by Guthy Renker. These are incomplete "Best Of" clips. Not sure what the legal hurdles would be, but you guys may seriously want to consider it as many, many people would be interested in the complete series.

I'm not sure what the outcome was of the complex lawsuit that was launched regarding the ownership rights to "The Dean Martin Show" that halted the further sale of the Guthy Renker volumes. It may still be in the courts. That aside, the music clearances for a show of this nature would be next-to-impossible to deal with in any kind of cost-efficiant manner. It's unfortunate that so many of the classic variety shows will never see the light of day due to the endless legal issues associated with them.

RE: Complete Dean Martin Variety Show
The big problem with combining the words "complete" and "variety show" is the the "complete" part.  Variety shows were famous for performances, which means astronomical costs of music clearances.  Keep in mind that they never expected people to own these shows as part of their collections.  They were merely making appearances on weekly shows and specials.  So those songs were not cleared for resale.  Putting together a series like The Dean Martin Variety Show would be not only tricky, but really expensive.

A best-of collection would be more reasonable and likely, assuming there are no legal hurdles to clear.

RE: Complete Dean Martin Variety Show

Hello from a newbie! You're absolutely right about the high cost of music clearances. The Dean Martin Show had TONS of musical performances by Dean, his guests, and the wonderfully talented young ladies who were Dean's Girls, The Golddiggers and The Ding-A-Ling Sisters. Alas, we may never see them again unless the show and its future are wrestled from the Corporate grasp and given over to the Public Domain.

There's a fellow in New York who is trying to promote the issue; he is found within the pages of an Internet blog titled "Wanted - The Dean Martin Show!". Perhaps Shout and/or orther related sites can take their cue from this slowly expanding blog and achieve a victory of sorts for the Millions of worldwide Dean Martin Fans who want to see the complete uncut series plus Golddiggers series in all of their Living Color glory once again...or for the first time.

It's an uphill battle; keep your fingers crossed. Cheers from one who watched the show, 1965-1974!
