Shout should get the rights to Happy Days
Whom ever had the rights has given up after 4 season. A complete box would be the way to go here, too many seasons to drip feed over years.

RE: Shout should get the rights to Happy Days
Of course someone like Brian Ward can speak to this much better (and with more knowledge) than I can, but as I see it there are two reasons a continuation of Happy Days wouldn't work for Shout:

1) CBS/Paramount owns the rights to this series and they don't seem to be very willing to license shows from their library out.  So that in and of itself makes this one tough.

2) Even more importantly, Season 4 of Happy Days is filled with a lot of pop music.  You can bet that's a big reason CBS didn't continue releasing this series.  They would have been replacing so much music (because they aren't known for paying the licensing fees needed to keep original music on their dvd sets) it wouldn't have been worth it.  I imagine the same would be true for Shout.  It would just be too cost prohibitive to try and keep releasing this series.  But if memory serves me correctly, Season 4 in particular really had a lot of pop music that would need to be cleared.  Too much, if you know what I mean.

Oh i do realise about the music, they switched out music on all 4 of the seasons released so far, but if theyve switche dout the music on that many they amayaswell do it on them al, or grow a pair and give the fans what they really want (unaltered episodes). These were huge shows and if done right and marketed right with some good special features they would be a hit. I believe the region 2 releases were unaltered btw, just cos outside america no one gives a [shiite]

Yes, you're right that CBS has already liberally subbed music out in Seasons 1-4.  And in fact I need to correct my first post.  I kept saying Season 4 when I meant to say Season 5.  That season has a particularly large amount of pop music (if memory serves me correctly).  I'm talking about even more than the first four seasons generally had.  It would just be a nightmare to try and redo all that music.  And frankly, the show really lost a lot for me with those music replacements.  I just didn't care for them at all.  For me it needs to be just about all or nothing with this series and the music.  I can live with a couple of replacements here and there, but not replacements in each and every episode.  That's too much.

yeah its a crying shame but I think its worthwhile for the companies to shell out for music rights as teh sales will reflect it. The biggest travesty is the Wise guy series which has 4 full episodes missing beciase the songs they didnt wanna spring for were integral to the plot.. crazy
