Sincerely, Online Customer Service Shout Factory Thank you for ordering from Shout Factory. I had no other choice. It was either help Shout Factory out in completing the series, or risk having this criminally underrated series vanish forever again. It also didn't help that the words of Brian Ward ("Where are all these Belvedere fans that we've been promised?") were haunting me, even in my sleep! Regardless, I'm glad I finally did my part. As for seasons 1-3, I'll got those down the road a few months from now. I just hope I'm not too late on doing my part, though.

Sorry for the way the first post turned out. I wasn't expecting the text to be so scrunched up. Still, I finally ordered season 4, and that's what matters. When I get it, I'll share my thoughts on the episodes.

Glad to hear you finally got S4.  Every sale helps.  I guess you're the 801st person to buy the set .

Please bring "Starman" the 1986-87 tv series, Silver Spoons seasons 2 & beyond and Jennifer Slept Here to DVD.

Out of curiosity, am I really the 801st person to buy the set, or was that just sarcasm on your part? Also, I thought Brian hinted that season 5 would be released (albeit not in the immediate future), even though season 4 sold very poorly.

I don't think anything is missing from the episodes.  I think the short ones were just that, simply shorter when they originally aired.  I don't know exactly how many people Mr B S4 but given Brian's example using 800 and the fact that he did say less than 1,000 people bought it, I'd say that's in the area.  I wish they would have released this as a complete series from the get go.  It wouldn't make sense to do it now, and if they did it would be a slap in the face to the fans who bought all seasons so far.  I know they wouldn't do that, but I for one, would have shelled out enough to buy the complete series up front.

RE: I finally got Season 4 of Mr. Belvedere

Hey, TV_Fan, just wanted to chime in to let you know that my set is finally in the comfort of my home.

I had other reasons why I didn't get season 4 at first. I was worried that when seasons 5 & 6 come out, they might accidentally slip syndicated episodes through cracks, and not even notice. So far, Shout Factory has done a good job in releasing seasons 1-4, but for the last two seasons, I wanna make sure the episodes are okay before buying them. I don't wanna end up with any syndicated versions.

It's just too bad that the other Belvedere fans that bought season 4 before I did aren't here, so that I can tell them that I finally got it. Unlike some of them, I decided just one copy was good enough, though.

But one thing that I can't figure out is this: Remember that one guy on Sitcoms Online who said that he got an e-mail telling him that season 5 would be on the way? Well, how come Shout Factory is denying that they ever said that? I really don't want to see this series get abandoned.

I'm not sure anyone's denying that the statement was made.  I'm suggesting that the person that made the statement wasn't in the know.  Questions sent to our info@shoutfactory.com are usually forwarded onto the folks that know the answer and then responded to once they have the proper information.  They're actually very good about this.  Problem is, some people don't email info@shoutfactory.com.  They email the sales department.  Or the marketing department, instead of info@shoutfactory.com.  If this was the case, those answers could've come from anywhere.  All I can promise is that I didn't say it.  And it's never been on our immediate schedules, because the Shout! Factory Select titles don't go on our regular schedules.  So there's no reason why anyone from Shout! would've given a release month.  Not saying they didn't.  Just saying, if they did, it was pulled out of their vat of wishful thinking.

Hope that helps!  And thanks for picking up the set.  TV_Fan's right.  Every sale truly does help.  It helps tell our marketing and sales departments that there are fans out there that want these shows and not to give up on 'em, no matter what general retail thinks and says.

You guys are the best!

Enjoy!

Brian

Glad to hear you finally got your copy.  I wouldn't believe much of what those other people said claiming to buy more than one copy.  In fact, I wouldn't believe 99% of what was said on the other Belvedere thread by those other people (or person).

Like Brian said, no one ever denied Shout! said that S5 was coming this summer, just that they didn't have accurate information.  Things change.  Believe me, I want to see this series completed on DVD just like you.

I assume they are also counting the sets sold through their partner on Amazon and ebay.

"God chose those whom the world considers absurd to shame the wise; he singled out the weak of the world to shame the strong. He chose the world's lowborn and despised, those who count for nothing, to reduce to nothing those who were something." (1 Cor. 1: 27,28)

RE: I finally got Season 4 of Mr. Belvedere
I finally finished the set today, and now for my impression of it: In one word, awesome.

This was a great set, and I'm glad I made my purchase last week. As for my personal favorite season 4 episodes? Well, here they are:

"Initiation"
"Moonlighting"
"The Wedding"
"The Counselor"
"Fall Guy" (Probably the best one on this set, in my opinion)
"Commentary"
"Kevin Nightingale"
"The Trip: Part 1"
"The Trip: Part 2"
"The Apartment"
"Graduation"

Some observations I noticed while I was watching the set: First off, it seems that they were using more stock footage, stock music, and stock photos than in the previous seasons. Secondly, Noam Pitlik was gone after the third season (he also directed all of the second; Tony Sheehan directed all of the first), and different directors (including Sheehan) rotated his position until they decided to settle with Don Corvan (he directed most of the episodes, from season 4, until the series finale). Also, sometime during this season, Sheehan stepped down from his role as executive producer.

Unlike some of the people here, I prefer to watch Mr. Belvedere in production order, as opposed to airing order (nothing wrong with that, mind you). I began with the "Triangle" episode, and ended with the "Graduation" episode ("The Counselor" was the 9th taped episode of season 4). The only two season 4 episodes that I didn't see were "The Book" and "Black Widow" (the 14th and 21st taped season 4 episodes respectively). That's because they were shown during season 5. As I mentioned in another thread, for each and every season after the first, including the last two, ABC ordered 22 episodes. Also, by watching the episodes in production order, it appears that every year, they taped 7 episodes for one season, and 15 for another: In 1985, they taped all 7 episodes of season 1, then later that same year, they taped the first 15 episodes of season 2, in 1986, they taped the remaining 7 episodes of season 2, followed by the first 15 episodes of season 3 later that same year, and so on.

Back to the show itself, I like how sometimes they would be so creative with the journal scenes. Some episodes would have Belvedere writing in it at different places: One episode had him writing in it at George's speech, another had him writing in it in the good old outdoors, another had him writing in it at George's former bachelor pad, another had him write in it at a hospital bed, and another had him write in it at an Atlantic City casino.

TV_Fan, you mentioned on amazon that the first time the series did not end with Belvedere writing in his journal was in "The Counselor". While I do respect your viewpoint, I still consider "Deportation: Part 1" as the first time that happened, because both parts 1 and 2 were originally separate episodes. If "Deportation" had originally aired as an hour-long episode, but was split into two parts and edited for the purposes of syndication, then I'd count both parts as one episode. And for the record, Mr. Belvedere never had any hour-long episodes. All 117 episodes were originally a half-hour long (with commercials, of course!).

Sorry for the long post. Anyways, like I said earlier, I'll get seasons 1-3 the regular way within the next few months, and with that, please Shout! Factory, bring on the final two seasons, so that I can die a happy man!

RE: I finally got Season 4 of Mr. Belvedere
Quick question here, TV_Fan: Is it true that amazon stopped carrying season 4, and now, you can only get season 4 from this site and from Ebay?

Also, I just wanna say that I've learned a valuable lesson in all this: Don't let the economy, no matter how troubled it is, keep you from buying this, or any other Mr. Belvedere set, past, present, or future. I used to, but not anymore. Sadly, many of the "so-called" Belvedere fans that Brian went into a month ago, the ones who promised to buy the sets once they became available, are doing exactly that. I think they need to wake up, and start doing their part, and quit letting the economy get the best of them.

And again, let me just say that I apologize for any of my actions here from the past that may have been inappropriate.

It took me a while to get around to purchasing S-4 of Mr. Belvedere, and did so using Amazon Marketplace two weeks ago.  Hopefully, the purchase is a tipping point for S-5 & S-6 release soon by Shout! Factory.  The show was easily my favorite, and many Friday nights (and later Saturdays) I preferred to spend the evening at home watching my crush Tracy Wells than going out.  Time well spent for a 6th Grader - HS Freshman.  It has been a joy reliving episodes that meant a lot in my youth, twenty to twenty-five years ago.  Ready for Season 5!!
