I'm a little worried about S6, though.
IIRC, S6 had the episode "Cruisin'", with a lot of licensed music. I hope Shout can handle that without too much in the way of cuts or replacements.
But, I suppose I shouldn't start thinking about that until November 3. |

I would hate to see anything altered from those seasons. Season 9 I'm not worried about because they didn't use too many songs I believe. But season 8 had episodes with Stacy Q and an episode with Bobby Rydell and Fabian. I really want to see that season uncut all the way through because it's one of their best from the show IMO.
Thanks Shout for releasing season 5 so quickly! Like others have said, you are the best!

The most music was probably used in seasons 7-8 when they had the Over our Heads store, fortunatly a lot of it was background music. |

Of course, for the moment I will just be delighted about Season 5! Already pre-ordered mine and my sister's copies!! |

I'm still a little skeptical and worried that the series will be put in hiatus again. I appreciate you guys releasing this series, as it is one of my favorites and I definitely want to buy it, but I don't want to get stuck with an incomplete series, which is why I haven't purchased it yet. Do you know the time frame of getting the full series released, or for that matter will there be a full series box set released in addition to the individual seasons. |

If you're a fan of a classic TV show that had multiple seasons on the air, don't even think about waiting for all the seasons to come out before buying them. If you buy the ones that are currently available, it encourages the company releasing them to release more. Waiting will just take even longer than it should for the remaining seasons to come out. Trust me on this one. |

It is a popular show. Not sure if it will be turned over to Shout Select for Seasons 8 or 9. I guess that depends on sales. But I think Shout will be able to pull this one off to the end.

Surely one or two seasons is better than none? The effort put into each season boxset merits a stand alone purchase. These are old shows and it's a relatively niche market. You should be thankful even one season exists and that you have the opportunity to own it!!! Shout have already shown their commitment by releasing season 5 not more than 6 months since season 4. They even included the Paris tv movie. What more do you people want?
And on a positive note I can't wait for November and getting my hands on season 5! |

I'm reading all over the Sitcoms Online board that Amazon sent their copies early and people have already received Season 5. I pre-ordered from Shout direct and I got my mail today and it hasn't arrived. Thanks for nothing Shout. I shoulda stuck with Amazon but they always sent their copies late. I specifically paid more at the Shout store because I had faith it would arrive, at least, by the day of release. Figures. |

I pre-ordered my copy and chose Second day shipping so it would arrive today, and I just saw this morning that Amazon refunded the shipping charges because they couldn't make the expected arrival date and still hasn't shipped my set yet.
OTOH, all of the Shout Select stuff I've bought has made it to me before the official street date. |

I had heard that about Shout which is why I decided to pre-order with them. And this is their first impression on me. I also pre-ordered the upcoming "All in the Family" set. Now, I'm re-thinking that order and I might use one of the other online retailers. I've heard people have had good experiences with Best Buy.

So, if you're holding off on buying FoL S5 because of concerns it shares the same "problems" that AITF S7 has, forget it. The discs appear to be fine at first glance.
And really, with AITF, all it took was a glance to see something was different with that. FoL doesn't have that look to it. |

Member since: 1/12/2007 | | RE: The Facts of Life: Season 5 - DVD quality? | Well, it's not exactly like we're shipping them from our home office. We have a warehouse that's run by an outside vendor that's taking care of anything shipped from the Shout! Factory online store. If we had direct control or knowledge of any late shipments, it would be alleviated as best as possible. Still, we also don't control the U.S. mail or priority shipping vendors, such as UPS or FedEx. While we can ship with an estimated time of delivery, it doesn't always mean it's going to get there on the street date. I've ordered plenty of things from Amazon, Deep Discount, etc. that haven't arrived on the exact release date. But unless it was shipped late, I've never thought to place blame on Amazon or other online retailers. They upheld their end of the bargain. It was shipped out on time. How long it takes to get to you is a separate matter, naturally. And one we take seriously. So we'll look into it, but estimated times of arrival are just that: estimates.
Sorry for any late shipments, gang! Thanks for your patience and hope you enjoy the sets when they do arrive!

Member since: 5/15/2010 | | RE: The Facts of Life: Season 5 - DVD quality? | So, so, SO pleased with this set!
- The picture looks about as great as one could expect - this was a show shot on video. I haven't come across any transfer issues that couldn't be attributed to the original source material, and haven't seen any visible compression artifacts either.
- I'm so pleased with the packaging. Not only are they keeping in-style with the previous sets (something very, very much appreciated), but I'm so glad Shout! uses individual hubs for each disc. Unlike sets like Golden Girls or Dallas (to name a few from other manufacturers), we have none of that "hey let's save space by overlapping discs on top of each other in the same slot!" garbage. I also REALLY like that the episode guide is right there on the reverse side of the cover art, very easily read through the clear casing. Honestly I can't come up with one negative about the packaging.
I am so happy with this set that I can only hope hope hope that we hear about Season 6 soon. Shout! is doing a wonderful job with this series, and I really hope more than anything that it gets finished through. The best seasons are yet to come, and I will be one happy soul when I have every episode of Facts on DVD waiting for me to watch at any time.
Thank you Shout!!!

Don't get me wrong, they were fun and entertaining, but Disc 3 of this set is one "very special episode" after another. There's latchkey kids, interracial relationships and prejudice, politics and compromise, dealing with the death of a loved one... after watching disc 3, I feel I have been bludgeoned with very important life lessons. |

That's why many of us are so excited for the remaining seasons, because the show gets really good when it drops a lot of that "very special" stuff and just became a fun sitcom about the girls. Sure, there are still elements that will remain but it's not as heavy-handed as it is in these earlier seasons.

I do know that I'm looking forward to the Beverly Ann seasons, though, and the only major "very special episode" I recall in that run is the one N@N never aired about Natalie and her love of Snake. Those last couple seasons were pretty much just sitcom fun, IIRC. |

This was really the last season where it was so heavy-handed, though, as it turned into more of a traditional sitcom in the remaining seasons.
The episode where Natalie loses her virginity did air, but wasn't always included in syndication packages. It was originally written for Lisa Welchel, but she declined due to her religious beliefs. It's the only episode she does not appear in.

I'll never forget seeing Charlotte Rae's bizarrely wide-eyed expression during an interview back in the day where she bragged how the show was 'tackling important social issues.' Even at the age of 14, I thought to myself, "Ugh! Whatever, lady!"
I love this period of the show's history, but I confess it's mostly because of the sheer awkwardness factor. I'll always be a fan of this show, but when it comes to this part of the series I am a heckler.
AND PROUD OF IT!

Bring on season six!

I especially loved how unintentionally funny it is in the Season 4 episode when Blair was dating the mentally disabled guy. I counted like six or seven uses of the word "retarded", in a clinical context, and I just about died laughing when Mrs. Garrett used it - "He can't help being retarded, girls..." I have friends who work in that community who I showed it to and my, times have certainly changed.
