It can't be done in high definition.  The entire series was rendered in standard definition.  No high definition masters were ever created.

I don't know dude, some of season 3 seems really high def to me. I'd live to see a nice box set with a ton of bonus features. I'm a huge BW nerd.

Mainframe rendered all of their animation at that time at 720x576 resolution, at 25fps.  That's the highest it can ever be without going back and re-rendering the entire series (which isn't going to happen).  Reboot was done the same way.

That said, the entire series plus Beast Machines has already been released on DVD several years ago (I own all the sets).  You can still find it on amazon and ebay most of the time.  Plus Brian Ward has said several times that Beast Wars is not in their plans, nor was it part of their deal with Hasbro.  So if a re-release happens at some point, it won't be any time soon.

Zaranyzerak listen ok? Don't waste your breath. talking to Johnny is like talking to a brick wall. Pretty much everyone including Brian has explaned to him multiple times that shout factory WILL NOT be releasing beast wars anytime soon and yet he still keeps making these posts.

I know.  I was also responding to the other guy who thought Season 3 might be HD.

Where does this information come from?  It doesn't make sense for a Canadian company to animate in a non-NTSC resolution and framerate.

Yeah, I've got all of Beast Wars myself. I was just pointing out that season 3 looks suprisingly good.

I guess Johnny's first name is "special", eh? ;)

RE: Beast Wars Transformers Remastered on DVD
The information came from Mairi Welman, the PR person at Mainframe.  She used to frequent the alt.tv.reboot newsgroup quite often when the show was still on the air and field questions from fans.  I asked the same question about the use of PAL format in a NTSC country, and she explained that they wanted it to look as good as was possible at the time so they used the slightly higher resolution of PAL because, well, it was higher resolution than NTSC.  Plus it also meant having to render 5 frames fewer per second of animation (25 vs 30).  I thought it was odd as well, but there was method to their madness.

In fact....here we go.  Here's the original discussion where I first heard that Mainframe did their shows in PAL:

http://groups.google.com/group/alt.tv.reboot/browse_thread/thread/98e79a3d1f19b9e3/c4da9ce6474c10b7?lnk=gst&q=pal#c4da9ce6474c10b7

And the article where Mairi Welman confirms it:

http://groups.google.com/group/alt.tv.reboot/browse_thread/thread/f1cf9ebc9028aa81/675d0c9bd1f6bed1?#675d0c9bd1f6bed1

As for Season 3 looking good, well, this was 3 years into the series - by that point Mainframe had really mastered their craft and it was showing in all their work.  Just look at Seasons 3 and 4 of Reboot compared to the first two.  Like night and day, in terms of the overall animation quality.  But still SD.

That's pretty cool that they did that, although one would think it would be less trouble to render at NTSC at 23.976 fps, that way they wouldn't have to convert from PAL to NTSC and would have even less resolution/frames to render.

I guess this means I'll have to buy Beast Wars and Beast Machines all over again (looks like the Australian DVDs would be a good choice), since my setup is capable of viewing PAL material without converting it to NTSC.  Been a while since I watched either series, too.

RE: Beast Wars Transformers Remastered on DVD
I just got the UK Beast Machines DVDs, and they don't look like they were taken from the original PAL masters (if Mainframe was indeed still animating in PAL at the time of BM) since the movements and pans are all choppy, while my US NTSC DVDs are smooth.

Will have to see how Beast Wars fares, it took Madman over a week to get around to shipping it to me even though it was in stock.
