What are the odds shout factory could release the cgi animated series, ReBoot? I loved this cartoon and the way it evolved from light-hearted stories to an epic, while retaining a sense of humor along the way. The parodies were always great too. The one where they made fun of Evil Dead and Michael Jackson's thriller all in one episode always stuck with me.
Sounds like it may very well already be in the works! No idea if it's Shout doing it, but I'm just happy to hear that it might FINALLY be coming to DVD in proper complete form.... The Multimedia Chronicles and more:

With the Movie in the works thats suppose to be out late this year (not confirmed), its no suprise that they will be working on the set. I hope it will get a blu-ray release as seeing the series in HD is only natural, plus it will breath new life in the old seasons. I believe it also can be done, just look at what they did for Season 3 when it was placed on DVD. Its only a matter of time till we hear any more news.

Awesome! Thanks for the link! ^^ Hope this happens. It'd be a shame if a great show like this didn't get a complete release.
Alas, there can't be a true HD version since the show was originally produced in SD resolution. As a matter of fact, the whole thing was done in PAL format (even though it was produced in Canada), specifically for the slightly higher resolution that PAL provides over NTSC (720x576 vs 720x480). So unless they were to re-render the entire show (not gonna happen), it's SD now and forever.

I really hope that there is a release of the entire series of Reboot but I am not holding my breath. If I recall correctly the problem was that more then one company owned the rights to the different seasons. I hope somehow they figured it all out and the new Reboot movie releases and sparks interest in the franchise.
That was the case a looooonnngggg time ago (like, in the late 90's - early 2000's), but isn't necessarily still the case. When tvshowsondvd.com reports a rumor, it's usually a pretty safe bet that it's gonna happen. They're rarely wrong. They've got some ind blowing sources that pass this info along to them. So don't give up just yet. It's been a long, frustrating wait for us fans, but this time it sounds like it might actually be happening. The Multimedia Chronicles and more:

That's awesome to hear. I really really really hope this is true. Reboot is one of my favorite series' and I would love to own the official DVD collection of it. But now I am curious as to how they will pull off the movie. I mean I hope they aren't gonna "reboot" Reboot with all new characters because that would suck. I think their biggest problem will be how to replace Megabyte's voice. The voice actor died, and man did he have the PERFECT voice acting voice, he was the bad guy in so many animated beauties. I really hope they just don't take the easy way out and downplay Megabyte's role.
I really want to see a full series set of ReBoot. I just hope they fix the audio problems with season 4.0 that caused the slowdown just enough to make Dot sound like some kind of trucker. lol
LOL...but you did know that if you contacted the company that sold the movie they would replace your disk for free with the correct audio right? I had the same problem and contacted them like LAST YEAR, lol, and they sent me a new disk.
That's pretty cool, considering it's been out of print for quite a while by now. By this point, though, might be simpler just to wait and see what happens with this Complete Series rumor... The Multimedia Chronicles and more:
http://www.zaranyzerak.com
Oh so the rumors are true and its coming from Shout? Hmm honestly i didnt see that coming, thinking Rainmaker would do it themselves. Couldnt be done by a better company. But i have to ask, and i know someone answered this, will ReBoot be released on Blu-ray? It may not have been done in HD but its stilll a possibility.
And even though im not exactually impressed, but the Movies is rumored for 2011 so this will make this a good year, along with alot...i mean alot of other movies coming out next year thats gonna leave me broke.

I can't even tell you how happy I am to see this, seriously this is on of two shows that I've been waiting for on dvd . . .proper dvd for a while. Mr. Ward you guys have done some great stuff on some of your past dvd sets so I have every confidance that this is going to be epic. Do we know if it's going ot be one complete series or season sets. Or maybe like G.I.Joe and Transformers a series box for hard core collectors and season sets for those. . . like my self who still love the show with all our hearts. . but might not be able to afford an entire series in one go. Either way I'm getting this ASAP. Lastly I asume that your 4.0 won't have the same audio slowdown issues the original did? I'm not sure I couldn't sit through another season of Dot sounding like a trucker.
Now all I need is Power Rangers (i've seen rumors about that as well teehee) and my childhood collection will be complete.
Yep. Working on 'em. This time 'round, however, I'm joined by MEGA-ReBoot fan Kristin Kennedy. Already working hard on bonus materials, both new and archival. We'll keep you as informed as we can. For now, though, rejoice in the announcement.

I'm, assuming that they will be treated as episodes instead of a movie, which is what i want anyways since alot of us basically own the movie (i got the updated audio movie btw ;) ).

Ouch! I don't recall, been a while since I watch the extras on those Beast Wars sets. But it wouldn't be the first time I'd seen the creators of one show dissing another... The commentaries on my sets of Adventures of the Galaxy Rangers take the piss out of Thundercats quite a bit, for example.
I don't like it when they do stuff like that, seems very unprofessional to me. Does it not occur to them that many people watching/listening may be fans of BOTH and take offense at remarks like that? Especially given that they share similarities in genre/type of show? Sheesh! The Multimedia Chronicles and more:

Wow....my prayers have been answered! Out of all the unreleased cartoons Reboot has been at the very top of my list to get a ultra-mega, super-duper, alphanumeric complete series set!!! In Shout! Factory's capable hands I have no worries that everything will turn out perfect. Might I suggest a inexpensive, yet stylishly awesome, digital rubber Glitch wristwatch as some sweet swag or at the very least a Reboot icon button/patch to slap on my jacket?
to be honest i never really understood the appeal of "Reboot" except for being the first CGI show ever
I mean I watched a couple of episodes but neither the characters or the writing appeled to me

Has Kristin joined in any of the communities? I'm one of the 3 guardians over at ReBoot.com moderating the site. I'm also an admin at the fan's die-hard forum, http://www.rbcorner.com/cgi-bin/eblah/Blah.pl
If you want to see what fans have been begging for, I can link you to some threads. But either way, we are super psyched to see this finally happening.
For those of you who never followed the release history, Seasons 1 and 2 were partially released on VHS for a bit. Then, ADV Films distributed Season 3. You can find these discs online for a really ridiculous price. Anchor Bay released the 4th Season / 2 Films, however you personally choose to categorize them. They encoded the discs incorrectly, which left us with REALLY deep-voiced characters. They never made a second print, but did replace corrected discs if you called and asked.
As much as I want to ask about the details, and REALLY push for details, it's far too early for that. Looking forward to the release!
Stay Frosty!
Kristin's come in from time to time. She's often insanely busy. I'm here just about everyday, though. I'm welcoming of feedback and appreciate any help I can get from folks. If something is recommended and can't be delivered, I will also let you know why. So I hope that helps with the teamwork between us and the fans.
Unfortunately, due to the fact that ReBoot is only one of 10 titles I'm actively working on right now, I only really have time to step into this forum on a daily basis. So if there are folks that don't mind making the transition, that would be fantastic. Otherwise, I might need people--like yourself--to be the liaison. Don't worry. When the set's done and out, we will happily give them back to you. We're not after your loyal readership. We just like to borrow their expertise, while we can get it.
Thanks Brian for the twitter reply!
The two things I've always wanted are:
1) The Making of ReBoot Special
2) The Trias Effect (ABC Teaser) "I'm a little source code, short and stout! This is my input, this is my out!"

ReBoot: The Great Brain Robbery
I'm a member of the same ReBoot forum XBrav posts on, and he's encouraged us to come over and say hello. Just gotta put this out there: you guys at Shout! Factory are awesome for doing this. Thanks so much! We really appreciate it.
As for suggestions, I speak for several people who want to see the two ridefilms put in the special features. The first one is only available in a very low-res YouTube video, and the second one is almost nowhere to be found. To see them in DVD-quality resolution would be a fan's dream.

If you didnt get into the show the first time, you'll never get into the show. Alot of us grew up watching this around the era when computers were slowly making its way to homes that went along with programming to playing computer games. You just got to have an imagination to really get into this series.
Brian:
Im sure this was done internally but if its possible, like you done with some of the animation sets, to see if you can get this into the episodes like they originally where, the bumpers and any "Last Time on ReBoot: type of bumpers as well. I have two videos on youtube of one set of the bumpers:
If i find anymore, i'll post more links, hopely they can be done. These bumpers i really hope make it in the set, its silly but they got me into the series, along with the Toys ad (which are on the vhses)
http://www.thegamemaster.org/
I'm from the forum as well. Since your asking for suggestions . I think it would be neat to see some interviews from the cas and crew. I'm a fan of Kathleen Barr and would love to see her and others on the DVD!
IMO this show almost looks like 3D so I also agree to own this one in HD 1080p. I would guess It must have been put on film?
if this was not asked already, I think it would be cool if (like in the star trek dvd set) you can put a (walk around the different sets used on the show) you can maybe make a dvd game also were you need to find stuff in each set to get too the exit.
Hey there! I'm a huge fan of ReBoot and am SO excited for this to come out! It's gonna be a day one buy for me fore sure. As for the suggestions, it'd be great if you could get commentary on some of the episodes with Ian Pearson and Gavin Blair and maybe even some of the cast as well. And if there's some way of releasing this in HD (Blu-ray or otherwise), I would definitely shell out some extra cash for that. Just wanted to say again how excited and thankful I am for Shout! Factory creating these. I've been waiting a long time for this haha. Cheers!
My ultimate wish for ReBoot on DVD would be a Blu-Ray release, as it would be a perfect fit. Short of that, I'd hope for the most pristine image Shout can give us, cast and director/writer commentaries for each episode, DELETED SCENES in any form (unseen Reboot please!), and to include everyone in the DVD (shame on Shout for omitting Allison Jones from their expensive Freaks and Geeks set- she won an Emmy for Freaks, the lone Emmy winner of that series, and there is not one mention of her or interview with her on the expansive set!! No excuse as she is responsible for the discovery of James Franco and Seth Rogen, among others). The cast of ReBoot was exemplary and we need interviews and commentaries! Love Shout, and give us the rest of SCTV please- the Cinemax and 70's eps, please.)
ReBoot was not produced on film, so it transferring it to high-def is a lot harder than one might think. You can't create an HD transfer from a standard-definition source. So a Blu-ray is not only unlikely, it's fairly unnecessary. You honestly won't get any better a picture from an HD transfer of an SD source than you would by simply sticking your DVD into your Blu-ray player and allowing it to up-res itself.
We're hard at work on bonus features, but please, let me make one thing clear. There have been countless times that I've personally approached all kinds of people about participating in DVD and Blu-ray bonus features and have been turned down for all kinds of reasons. You won't find Jared Leto involved in our My So-Called Life set, not because he wasn't approached, but because he simply said "no." The same goes for Matt Frewer on our Max Headroom set. Furthermore, I find that more behind-the-scenes folks say "no" than not. If they didn't create the show or direct episodes, few people want to get in front of the camera. They're often not comfortable.
As for Allison Jones, in particular, I wasn't at Shout! Factory when that set was being produced, but I came on board right afterward and I can say that it was a joint production between Shout! and Judd Apatow's camp. In many cases, when it came to that set, we merely accepted the finished bonus features, so it's not so much "shame on Shout! Factory," as you put it.
Stay tuned. We're doing everything we can to make sure this set's exactly what you guys want!
Thanks Brian! Understood on the Hi-Def issue. I had thought the folks at Mainframe and Alliance had used every process that Pixar did but evidently film was involved. Also understood on the folks saying no (Leto should've said yes to you and no playing Lennon's murderer). As for Allison, I'd be remiss if I did not say this is what we all get for merely accepting what we get placed in our hands, instead of someone on Apatow's or Shout's end noticing an error of omission and saying Hey- what about Ms. Jones, for crying out loud?
But I love your company, you've been a champion of SCTV, Freaks, and now ReBoot. Somebody there has excellent taste and your dvds are always appreciated and well done. Good luck on getting as many ReBoot folks as you can. Thank you again and thanks for giving us ReBoot! PS- did anyone else notice the final My Two Bobs audio on the previous DVD release was either sped up or slowed down (can't remember now), so the voices sounded wrong? PLEASE fix it for us! =)
Here some major questions about this set from another message I frequent (Toon Zone):
1. Will the episode "Talent Night" contain the YTV logo on the ballet dancing cyclops or will it be removed as was per the ABC broadcast version?
2. Will the season 4 episodes be released as individual episodes or be in their condensed movie format?
3. Does SHOUT! Factory have the legal means to provide the transcripts for the final 5 episodes for season 4 for the DVDs that are said to conclude the series?
from http://www.toonzone.net/forums/showthread.php?t=274205
Granted, my exposure to the episodic versions of Daemon Rising and My Two Bobs are quite limited, I don't think the movie versions are "condensed" so much as they don't include separate intros, recaps, ending credits, etc. However, for the sake of completion, I would say they should present both versions.
I'm wondering if the vignettes (detailed here: http://www.inwap.com/mf/reboot/episodes/04x.html) made regarding Medusa Bug would be included as I have never seen them and they would be a really cool addition.

2. Will the season 4 episodes be released as individual episodes or be in their condensed movie format?
"If they didn't create the show or direct episodes, few people want to get in front of the camera." Does that mean there's still a chance of Ian or Gavin being involved? :D And I just wanted to say thanks for being so responsive. It's really a breath of fresh air since Rainmaker just suddenly stopped updating us about the movie. PS sorry if it seems like I'm spamming, I'm just so excited!! haha I know it's gonna be great :)
Brian I'm really happy about the new as I've stated in this very thread at least once. Since you are kind of looking to us fans to inspire you for extra content, may I suggest ( and I think I may speak for a fair ammount of ReBoot fans when I ask for this) some kind of feature about Tony Jay. He was an amazing actor and voiced one hell of a villian. Even if it was just something small I think the fans would love to see him remembered in some way.
Glad to finally see this coming out. I was re-watching some episodes not long ago and was struck be how much it echoed The Matrix. I know ReBoot came out first, and there isn't a lot of obvious similarities. But the overall atmosphere was virtually identical. I'd be shocked if the 2W's weren't influenced by it. Enzo even grows up and takes the name Matrix. Ask them if they were influenced. If so, it would probably make for a great interview.
Also, I noticed Dan Didio from DC Comics listed in the credits he also may have some interesting input.
One thing that I was wondering. Is there any flexibility of a limited soundtrack by Bob Buckley being included?
I'm sorry, my dream scope of this DVD boxset is nothing short of something similar to The Ultimate Matrix Collection, 19 discs or something nuts like that.
For the rest of you, the ABC "bumpers" that aired for the Medusa Bug "delay" (yeah, the eps weren't done yet, these were fillers), was called The Trias Effect. Here's an old VHS clip of it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RreFFTaf2qo
As I live in Canada, it was only recently that I saw a clip where the YTV robot had his logo removed, quite funny.
One thing else to notice is that the international episodes had additional music tracks that sometimes played in the background, such as when Bob ran up the stairwell in The Quick and the Fed.
One thing I did notice, after getting my signed copies of The Art of ReBoot, and the supplemental book, was the number of renders that truly had never seen the light of day. As well, a ReBoot fan in the UK was able to purchase a Mainframe demo tape, containing really early renders of ReBoot.
If we could get the demo clips put on the collection, that would be incredible.
I only have one strange question. ReBoot so far has been delivered as interlaced video, which looks like junk on today's digital TVs (LCD, plasma, etc etc) due to the ghosting deinterlacing methods. Would there be an option to have the videos encoded as a progressive mpeg? The quality will be significantly higher :)
Regardless, thank you so much for listening my ranting. I have a lot of folks at The Java Hut who have been begging for this for years, and I'm sure you will not dissatisfy them!
There's a lot of extra rare material floating around YouTube that I would appreciate being considered when compiling these DVDs. The Trias Effect mentioned above is one (DON'T forget The Trias Effect please). There are also three early demos (I hesitate to call them pilots since they weren't full episodes, just short demonstrations used to sell to the networks).
And don't forget the behind-the-scenes special that was never aired. It's mostly fluff, but it's FROM that time period.

ReBoot the Game: Cutscenes
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cm1FUh-RAec
So much! You could fill a whole disc with these alone.
When I heard that there was a serious effort to get ReBoot out on DVD I was thrilled beyond words. Then the kind folks at the Digital Bits pointed me to this forum to suggest things to put on the discs. My short list would include the following:
Bloopers from the voice recording sessions
Interviews with the voice actors
Isolated music tracks for select episodes like Nullzilla
Model tests
An interactive tour of all of Mainframe
The motion ride films
The Making of ReBoot special
The Medusa Bug bumpers from the ABC 1st season hiatus
Making of the video game feature
Bonus soundtrack CD! :) The music was too good to be ignored.
That's my list of items that would be fun to have on the discs.
Hey, gang! Thanks for the suggestions. If I don't respond directly at first, I swear it's only because I'm reading each post carefully and writing everything down. I will respond more directly sooner, I promise.
I'm another poster from The Java Hut and has come over here thanks to XBrav's encouraging. I don't have much time to post now but I thought I'd put down a couple questions/suggestions for DVD extras.
Would there be any way of bringing some "behind-the-scenes" stuff like The Making of ReBoot special? I'm actually a HUGE fan of bloopers and things, and am a complete music nerd (more of the making of the music would be awesome, as well as a soundtrack of sorts). Brian, would you guys be able to have access to that kind of footage from the good ole days?
I'm also repeating LadyLazuli's mention of films from the motion rides. Those would be an incredible treat to see.
Well I will not buy this set cos i'm not into this show but I REALLY HOPE that it sells well so SHOUT can release other titles
and our friend BRIAN seems soo enthusiastic now :D
Thanks for the opportunity to give the fans a chance to shape this product!
Ideas for the extras:
1. How about the "history" of the difficulties in getting this product to video release, first in VHS(/Beta???), then DVD and even include the reasoning behind not putting it on Blu-Ray. (Not many shows with such fervent fans have to wait between 15 and 20 years for video release!)
2. Like the idea of at least small tributes to the voice actors who have passed on, but let's not forget the crew!
3. How about scenes from the foreign language releases of ReBoot; German, Russian, etc. maybe 2 or 3 minutes each to give the flavor and showcase the foreign voice actors. (Here's were I get picky: subtitles in both English and the particular foreign langauge?)
4. How about a feature on the toys released from the show? (Even just a slideshow.)
5. Maybe a feature on the culture and technology references from the time? You may not realize it now, some to most of those references will start to become lost and increase as time goes on. And here's a homework project for the rest: ReBoot referenced technology and culture from the time. Did any other show ever reference ReBoot?
Hi Brian, my name is David and when it comes to ReBoot I'm a huge fan (I run the fan-site rebootrevival.com and while Rainmaker no longer has any information up on it, I more or less "founded" the interest in the revival of ReBoot). I'm more often referred to as "GlitchBob" online, and even Gavin Blair has taken to calling me "GB" instead of my real name. I've been reading over the posts so far and I'm glad to see such a positive response for having fan input!
Would one of the possible extras include the appearances that Gavin Blair and some of the cast and crew have made at conventions? I have video footage (Anime Evolution 2009 - ReBoot Panel ~Saturday~), and could provide it if need be.
Will post back soon, as I've been thinking over what extras would really please fans, although there have already been great suggestions thus far! :)
ReBoot Revival: http://rebootrevival.com
1st day preorder for me!!!! Giant ReBoot fan and can't wait to own seasons 1 & 2 on DVD (have 3 and 4 already)
Count me in as another would prefer to see a blu-ray but kind of guessed it would be tough, at least as a complete series. I'd settle for anything on Blu though, so a separate release of season 4, for example) on Blu-ray I'd still pick up. Maybe something for you guys to keep in mind down the road :)
As for bonus features I'd love to see.
ReBoot: The Ride(s) would be my most wanted feature
Fast Forward: The Making of ReBoot would also be a must (I'd like to be able to delete it off of my computer)
Art Gallery of some kind is also a must have
I'd love to see some commentary on select episodes as well.
Personally I'd only think footage of voice recording sessions would be interesting if they are group recordings. Don't really care to see someone standing alone in a room recording dialog.
I'd also definitely love to see some sort of virtual tour of Mainframe, and as another member mentioned, I too think some sort of guide to the different computer/vancouver references would be cool. An interactive Reboot Reborn comic would be pretty neat.
This may have been brought up by someone in the thread already re: bonus features - so apologies if I'm parroting what someone already said.
I'd love to see some sort of closure given to the unproduced third special (which would have been part 4 of Season 3). Any chance you guys can get some sort of interviews with the writers/producers or something in which it's at least discussed what was originally planned? That cliffhanger is one of those moments I'd love to see some sort of closure on if possible.
Can't wait to get this set though! Now, all you need to do is get the rights so you can get Earthworm Jim out on DVD and I'll be a very happy man, owning the best shows of my childhood!
'I would like some closer on the series but he probably wont get anything other then unproduce scripts, if possible. Plus Rainmaker, formally Mainframe, is producing a Trilogy of Reboot Movies (if its still in the making) that is suppose to start fresh along with closer to the former series. Sadly, ReBoot TV series is offically canceled and most likely wont return as we all grew up watching.

I'd like to thank Shout! Factory for picking this series up, and listening to all this fan feedback. If even half of these suggestions are acknowledged, I'm sure this is going to be one stellar definitive boxset release, and I can't wait to get my hands on it.
I think most of the major requests I had have been covered, such as making sure that the episode versions for season 4 are included and having some kind of tribute to Tony Jay. The one I really want to reinforce is making sure that the original Canadian broadcast version of "Talent Night" is included, with the YTV logo on the robot intact. The joke is lost entirely if you only use the edited American broadcast version that removes the logo!
Also, I interviewed Gavin Blair at Anime Evolution last year and asked him about the direction the series was supposed to go in. It seems highly unlikely that he or Ian or anyone is going to share that information. Honestly, I don't see it as a big deal. In my mind the series ended at the end of season 3. Season 4 was like a bonus.
Not to forget that the joke has another level as not only was the robot one of YTV's logos at the time, but ReBoot was also produced in association with YTV through-out its run.

Don't forget the alternate ending of The Medusa Bug that led into those bumpers! My vote goes for standalone extra or seamless branching option. Or both! Glad to see I'm not the only person out there who actually remembers those... I actually have 5 of the 6 of them on tape (SP, hi-fi stereo) and would happily contribute them to the cause if needed. Also have a few other goodies kicking around, I'd have to dig through the tapes a bit...

Oh i seen it during its run on ABC, unfortunately i wasn't smart enough to record it which i actually do regret, of course i was 14 when it aired. Other then what i got from youtube, i dont have any good quality
But the link i posted earlier with the Bumpers i actually did get off one of my VHS recordings that unfortunately was after ABC canceled ReBoot and my local network aired it part of the block that aired with other Mainframe series, forgot which at the time. I do have a full video of the Unaired Special that was floating on the net that took place i think after Season 1. I'd be happy to provide that if its a possibility.

When I heard that there was a serious effort to get ReBoot out on DVD I was thrilled beyond words. Then the kind folks at the Digital Bits pointed me to this forum to suggest things to put on the discs. My short list would include the following:
Bloopers from the voice recording sessions
Interviews with the voice actors
Isolated music tracks for select episodes like Nullzilla
Model tests
An interactive tour of all of Mainframe
The motion ride films
The Making of ReBoot special
The Medusa Bug bumpers from the ABC 1st season hiatus
Making of the video game feature
Bonus soundtrack CD! :) The music was too good to be ignored.
That's my list of items that would be fun to have on the discs.

Brian you have done so much for this set already I hesitate to post up another suggestion. This one may be a bit of a pipe dream and if you can't get to it then obviously no harm done. I think it would be great to have some kind of feature, commentary or text, pointing out the pop culture references in ReBoot. When I was younger I saw the show on Cartoon Network and the YTV logo did show up on the TV during Enzo's birthday. . .but I didn't get it. I also did understand the true meaning behind "The ABC's have turned on us" or the squashing of the Sailor Moon binomes until I was a bit older. Even doing a separate feature with text showing the references might be a good thing. I refer to the way Funimation showed off the historical information in it's recent Hetalia DVD set. I would be more then willing to put in time and effort to help in anyway make this a reality. Zaranyzerak also seems to have quite the eye for detail so he may be a good person to go to for reference information as well. There is also a lot of in-joke information on the ReBoot wiki page.
Brian-
I'm just as excited as everyone here to hear that ReBoot's coming to DVD. I'm glad SHOUT! is doing the set as well. I'm wondering what SHOUT's policy is on closed captioning or subtitling the special features? I'm hoping they will be subtitled at least for the deaf / hearing-impaired crowd. I was rather disappointed that Sports Night didn't have this.
First off, thank you so much for finally releasing ReBoot to DVD! I've been a huge fan for over a decade and am much looking forward to an excellent boxset. :)
My wish-list for the DVD extras has already been covered in this thread by other people, but the below has reminded me... I second the question about the possibility of a Beast Wars release, as well as Shadow Raiders/War Planets.

Brian,
If Reboot The Complete Series sells well, will they release Beast Wars Transformers: The Complete Series on DVD?
Man, given how sly ReBoot could be with their pop culture references, that would be quite the feature. Oh yeah, Nintendo so owes royalties to Mainframe/Rainmaker as ReBoot originally popularized "game cube."

Actually, I want ReBoot on DVD. I already have Beast Wars and Beast Machines on DVD. While yes, it could be slightly improved upon with a new release, I'm perfectly content with the Rhino version for now. I'd much rather have something like ReBoot, which has never had the Complete Series treatment, than just another re-release. Shop around. You can still find the Rhino releases for reasonable prices if you look. If you want it, get it. It's been available for years.
Now back to talking about ReBoot... The Multimedia Chronicles and more:

I was going through my archives, and I have the original, unedited footage that I filmed at Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo, where Gavin Blair and Jim Su held a panel answering questions. If you're interested in it, let me know. It's big, so I'd have to burn it and mail it to you, but David Strugger did chop it up and dump it on youtube for me:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bDroFHHw5Bg
I'm looking for the high quality ReBoot commercial bumpers I had, but I think they got lost in the site move.
I do have most of the tracks from the ReBoot video game in MP3 format too that I ripped, if you're interested for menu music or something.
Regardless, thanks again!

Hi Brian,
I wanted to make sure about producing and releasing Beast Wars Transformers: The Complete Series on DVD by Shout! Factory, Hasbro and Rainmaker Entertainment, INC. Thank you.
Jonny, you have already been told once. This is a ReBoot thread. This thread is for information about the show ReBoot and it's upcoming DVD series set. The question of Beast Wars on DVD has already been answered several times. I personally do not agree with Zaranyzerak that the Rhino DVD's are easy to find or a reasonable price but that is a discussion for the Beast Wars thread. . . of which there are several. Please take this conversation to one of those Beast Wars threads. Repeatedly asking about the show is not in any way going to help your case of getting it to DVD any faster.

Well to be fair, I searched both amazon and ebay right before posting that and found current listings for all the sets from multiple for 60 bucks or less. Considering they cost not much less than that when originally released, I'd say that qualifies as both easy to find and reasonably priced, given they're all out of print. I bought all 3 Seasons of Beast Wars long after they were out of print, and didn't have to search very long to find a decent price for all of them. Sorry you disagree, but I don't make a claim I can't back up in about half a second.
But yes, Shout isn't re-releasing them. They don't have the rights to them. No Beast Wars from Shout in the forseeable future. The end. And now, back to ReBoot.

Sean please understand the disagreeing with you and saying you're wrong are two entirely different subjects. When I first got my BW sets I got them for less then $25 each so frankly (for me) $60 is no where near reasonable. You may think it is and that's fine. So once again I'm not saying you're wrong about finding them or that they are reasonably priced (for you) only that I disagree with the prices I've found being reasonable. As one of your long time youtube fans I would never think you would make a claim with out checking first. I'm however finding BW for $110, $90 and $70 for each season respectively. Last note. Since our friend Jonny has decided to start yet another thread to ask his question and is completely ignoring all the people telling him "ain't gonna happen" I think we should table this discussion and get back on the topic at hand.
Love the idea of fan created content for the DVD's if I had an ounce of drawing talent I would enter in a heart beat.

Wow, you got a good deal! As I recall (it was a while ago), I got the first season for about 60, which wasn't much more than it retailed for originally, then the subsequent 2 sets for about 30 apiece. I grabbed Beast Machines when it first came out, I think that went for around 40 at the time.
My assessment of whether I consider something "reasonably priced" is simply based on how close it is to the original retail price. If it's a bit more due to a title being out of print, I consider that reasonable. If it's less (or a LOT less as in your case), then that's just gravy! But not to be expected on a regular basis.

All the original Interstitials between commercial breaks they had for the original airings here in the states.
The 2 IMAX Ride Films somewhere in the set
Along with those the original FMVs from the ReBoot PS1 game (if need be I have the game and am willing to attempt to rip the video from it... though I have no idea how to do that).
And I would love to see but not necessarily with the set but available on both Shout!s site as well as Rainmakers the posters that Mainframe made for each season would be AWESOME, in nice glossy full on one sheet style (in the 27" by 40" size or there abouts), I would buy one for all four seasons (and the 2 they had for season 4).

Well... If Brian is UBER awesome, maybe we can get a custom DVD case shaped like Glitch... Dunno if Shout! has ever done anything like it... "I'm a little source code, short and stout! This is my input, this is my out!"

ReBoot: The Great Brain Robbery
OMG Xbrav that is a really, really great idea! Maybe they could make like limited edition cases that are shaped like Glitch and then just regular ones that are a normal DVD case. It's like what The Simpsons do when they release a new DVD set (limited edition is shaped like a characters head, regular is just a normal DVD box). I think that's a wonderful thought and if Shout! could do it that would be the coolest.
Well, G.I. Joe got a footlocker and Transformers got the Matrix of Leadership so a Glitch-inspired package for ReBoot would be rather simple to do considering Glitch is essentially rectangular to begin with.
Its funny you say that, cause when i was a kid when this first aired (i believe i was 12), i use to imagine that everytime i watched this show. Its show like this that brings you into it, which is what made it so great, espcially the end cliff of Season 2. I use to have so many ideas of it.
Be kinda interesting to see something about the game but i doubt that might happen. But thankfully some of us have the game, i actually need to beat it....which sounds like a challenge to help get me in the mood for the DVD set.
I wouldnt count on Glitch box, i more see the ReBoot Icon being that being thats more of an icon of the entire show, no pun intended. It'll be nice to see a glitch artwork with Bob on one of the DVD slim cases, like all its morphs (probably not all due to sistuations), but honestly a special feature on Glitch would be very interesting.
A little trivia i learned years ago, the sound that Glitch makes is from a Polariod Camera :)....neat huh.

Honestly, a Glitch Case with the ReBoot icon on screen would look fantastic...
The reason I suggested it is purely the ease of production of a shell... I could design one in Solidworks over the weekend... And then make the ReBoot logo, or even a cool hologram logo...
I'm really getting too enthusiastic thinking about it. Cursors.

ReBoot: The Great Brain Robbery
I hope this is ok but for people who dont have shout's newsletter, check this out:
Defragging ReBoot For DVD
Shout! Factory has partnered with Rainmaker Entertainment, Inc., to bring the cult Saturday-morning fave ReBoot to DVD. Binary jokes aside—though they are plentiful within the show—ReBoot, which debuted in 1994, goes down in history as the first fully computer-generated animated TV series, putting it well ahead of its time. Set within a computer mainframe, the program’s wit centers around computer and gaming lingo that could make your head swim in 0s and 1s. Look for ReBoot: Seasons One andTwo in stores and a series collector’s set on ReBoot.com in early Spring 2011.
Speaking of the ReBoot DVD release . . . We’ve launched an art contest and are looking for the most unique rendition of your favorite ReBoot characters. Brendan McCarthy, a highly celebrated artist and the original production designer of ReBoot Seasons 1 to 3, will select five entries deemed as the most distinctive to be showcased in the series collector’s set in 2011. Winner(s) will also receive a complimentary copy of the complete series set. More details available at ReBoot.com. Deadline is 12/3, with winners announced on 12/13.
Pretty cool, even though TVshowsondvd.com did hint two different sets. i wonder what the collector's set will include over the Season sets. Can you give us any idea, Brian? http://www.thegamemaster.org/
sometimes it is interesting to note which series get complete series releases and which don't. I wouldn't have thought this show was popular enough to warrant a full release right away.
So...wait. Shout! is releasing Seasons 1 & 2 separately, but not Seasons 3 & 4; and the series collector's set has all 4 seasons in it? Or does the series collector's set only include 1 & 2? Just looking for some clarification haha. PS woohoo spring release! I'm really looking forward to it :D
The fanbase is so big they have conventions and a offical artbook from a fan or creator, not entirely sure. The show is still going in reruns over in Canada but sadly isnt here since it ended on Toonami. Plus, im sure Rainmaker is pushing Shout to push the rest out to tie in with the upcoming movies.

More then likely as ReBoot is the flagship of Rainmaker over the other series. Plus by the sounds of it and just notice this, ReBoot movies more then likely will be released through Shout Factory.
I'm even willing to bet that Rainmaker will be advertising the sets.

Will Reboot: Complete Series Set be sold at retail stores like amazon.com in early spring 2011?
Any upcoming movies are far from a release date, so anything we release will be prior to those being distributed. And Rainmaker is actively participating with us on these titles. I mean, after all, we DID license it from them.
Also, I'm trying to make myself clear that Rainmaker has absolutely NO ownership of the other aforementioned titles. So do not associate Rainmaker with the potential licensing of things like Beast Wars or Beast Machines. Those are all owned by Hasbro. And, as of now, there are no plans to release those titles.
Yeah thats what i figured, so no longer do we have to wait another decade for it to be released.....a little joke to the original series, of course not you Brian :). Some of us been waiting since it aired back on ABC and even though there were some VHS releases (which i still own), found out Mainframe (former name before Rainmaker) strike a 10 year deal which ultimately went no where.

I'm an enormous fan of ReBoot and would welcome any developments on this series as it's been years!! However, I am in the UK and over here we use Region 2 DVDs. I was wondering if there is any chance that the DVD release will spread over here at all? Or rather, if Region 2 versions will be released anywhere, so that I could at least order a set in from somewhere else that would actually work on DVD players here?
It's great that ReBoot's finally going to be released together though! :D
if you google your current DVD player around you will see that many can be made region free via a secret code
Also if not you can simply watch them on your computer :D

ReBoot_UK, unfortunately, Shout! Factory only has domestic, North American rights to ReBoot, but as it was pointed out, that doesn't mean you can't get access to ours.
The entire series is being released, but Seasons 1 & 2 will also be released separately (as will seasons 3 & 4 later on) with the only real difference being fewer extras. People who purchase the collector's edition (complete series set) will have access to the entirety of the extras being put together for the release.
This is just like they did with the G.I. Joe and Transformers sets.

What should we except on disc wise for the collector's edition? is there anything, other then packaging, that will be exclusive to the set that wont make it in the season sets? I dont own those sets so i dont know what to expect. Im just use to the four disc set of the DiC sets. I imagine at least 8 disc for ReBoot.
http://www.thegamemaster.org/
It's really difficult to say, as at this time we don't know exactly what the special features are going to be. On the Transformers set, there was a voice actor retrospective which was only available in the complete series set, whereas the G.I. Joe set included a 1 GB "dog tag" USB drive which had a comic issue preloaded.
I could imagine any tributes to ReBoot actors who have passed on could be exclusive to the complete set but, basically, the best way to look at it is the complete series release is pretty much "for the fans," which makes the price tag worth it. As the Transformers set came with Autobot and Decepticon logo magnets, I could see the ReBoot set coming with a ReBoot icon and Megabyte logo magnet.
I think that's a reasonable estimate for a disc count, but I'd err on the side of caution and make it 10 to account for bonus features discs.

Are you guys planning to put the CGI footage of the Reboot Videogame in the box set? The game was a prequel to the series.
Perhaps a nice little bonus for the fans that enjoyed Bob Buckley's music for the series, would be a CD? Either limited tracks, or maybe, just maybe a full soundtrack?
If I recall correctly, one of my friends/die-hard fan in the UK, managed to contact Buckley, and almost had something planned which Buckley was more than happy to be on-board with (I believe it was to be a complete season 1-4 soundtrack, with some pieces either recreated or remixed by Buckley), but Rainmaker never replied to my friend or Buckley.

Maybe if they kept all the animation files from the series they could re-render them in HD like Pixar did with Toy Story.
Or rather if they were going to re-render then re-render it in 3D so it could be sold as a 3D Blu-Ray.
Don't think it would sell enough though, lol
Actually, it's not a simple matter of re-rendering it.
ReBoot, being the first CGI-series, had to be produced in the most effective and optimized method possible. Unlike animation rendering today, there was simply not enough horsepower to render the advanced models with surrounding scenery. It also meant sacrificing shadows in the first season. As well, the backdrops took a long time to render, and the characters were moved manually (no motion capture).
In order to meet deadlines, the solution was to fragment the rendering processes. If you watch closely on the DVDs, you can see times where characters were simply 2D cutouts (for instance, watch all the binomes do the stance in the first episode). As well, no PC, or array of PCs, were able to effectively render more than one model on the frame at a single time.
The solution to this was to render each "advanced" model (Bob, Enzo, Dot, Phong, binomes that had moving mouths such as '7') independently, with a transparent backdrop. Through careful planning, each rendered video is layered to create an advanced rendition.
So, here is the issue. In order to create an HD version of ReBoot, each layer of each scene of each episode of each season will need to be re-rendered, timed, and made compatible with the latest version of SoftImage (if they are even still using it). The issue is, even if it can be done, it would not be profitable for Rainmaker, given all the manhours required for the conversion. Plus, only a very small group of fans sadly can take advantage of Blu-ray.
The only other issue is the nature of the show. Remember, to save time, only what was seen was modeled. I would ADORE a widescreen version of the show, even just to see what they used for filler in the backdrop originally, however, they episodes would nearly have to be remade from scratch (in our dreams, right?).
Frankly, I really want to see how Shout! does their DVDs. If I had it my way, I'd be happy if it was delivered in PAL Progressive Scan, which is the actual source frame-rate of the show. That is funny within itself, as the show was produced in Vancouver, but Gavin Blair's history starts in the UK, which might explain production for compatibility with European markets.
In the meantime, to keep you all happy, Rainmaker / Zeros2Heroes launched a store stocked with old inventory, and trust me, it's a really good deal. http://shop.reboot.com
After seeing that cover, I mentioned it on Twitter to Brian Ward, and I love it, even if the best image we received was really tiny. I've gotten on the press mailer for Shout!, so I'll make an announcement if you don't hear something else first ;)
Thanks for your great work Brian. I'm sure a lot of fans will be calling you Alphanumeric :) "I'm a little source code, short and stout! This is my input, this is my out!"

ReBoot: The Great Brain Robbery
Of course my post was a little tongue in cheek, Reboot is not Toy Story.
As far as a widescreen version goes that would be a bad Idea as the show was never framed or set up for widescreen, so you'd just be adding dead space to the sides, like an open matte transfer of a widescreen film adds it to the top and bottom
PAL Progressive would be good unfortunately whilst all PAL DVD players can play NTSC not all NTSC players can play PAL. I wish that all UK DVDs of shows from America were in NTSC rather than converted to PAL.
The PC, HDMI, and Media Player Classic would be your best friend for those PAL DVDs. I use that way for my shout dvds and change a few details, which makes it as HD as i can.

Hmm sorry for the double post but i thought this deserve another post, ReBoot.com sent out an email, for some reason i never got it, that has the boxart to the complete set which is called “The Definitive Mainframe Edition”. Is there any info we can get from you Brian on what we can expect on these sets....and possible a release date? :-)
Just wanted to chime in for a second, after seeing the newest post over at TVshowsonDVD.com.
First, I want to express my gratitude for being able to finally put out the Reboot set and taking the time to listen to the fan suggestions. I will definitely be picking this up when it is released.
As for suggestions, and although it looks like the final art/box has been chosen for the DVD collection, I'm probably already too late with this one. I had thought it would be great if the DVDs could come inside a purple "Game Cube" as a possible idea for special packaging. I saw the Glitch suggestions above, but was surprised that no one mentioned this one! Just a thought.
Also, any chance of getting the 2001-ish Reboot toy prototypes into the extras?
Back before season 4 aired on Cartoon Network, Irwin developed a series of new Reboot toys to be released in conjunction with Season 4's airing and the continued daily rotation of seasons 1-3. But CN reneged on their plans and pulled the show from the lineup, which caused Irwin to drop most of the toy line before they went into production because they didn't think that the sales of the line could be sustained without the continued active airings of the show.
A friend of mine from back in the day took many pictures at Toy Fair, and I passed them on to the website Icomefromthe.net waaay back when. Unfortunately, I lost contact with my friend about 4 years ago and the website has long since left us.
Would it be possible to get some pictures or footage of them on the set?
Anyhoo... thanks again!
I am surprised nobody has suggested it but why don't they include a disk with the web comic of ReBoot that kind of resolves the cliffhanger left in the series. If not a disk with the web comic how about at least a hardcopy. I mean if it's gonna be complete at least they could include the resolution to the cliffhanger. The webcomic is at Reboot.com.
It most likely wasn't suggested because, to most (which includes myself), the web-comic was sub-par at best. It wasn't done by any of the original co-creators, and had a rather deus ex machina ending (which while denied, is probably due to Rainmaker pushing the team to wrap it up).
If you want the TRUE resolution to the cliffhanger, tell Rainmaker to do the RIGHT thing and bring back the co-creators so they can tell the rest of THEIR story, for THEIR creation. You will enjoy it, as will everyone else if they ever see it.... I can guarantee that, because I know what was planned (a "perk" from gaining one of the co-creator's trust, after showing my obvious devotion with my revival campaign which started this whole thing).

Well obviously I would love Rainmaker to do it right with the real writers but it doesn't look like they are interested in continuing the ReBoot we know and love and most likely want to "reboot" our ReBoot for a new audience.
I mean I read the web comic and I didn't think it was horrible. I love ReBoot but I am not gonna pretend that every storyline was gold. I thought the web comic did the show justice. I mean maybe since you know how it really would of went down it's hard to accept the web comic but for a ReBoot fan CRAVING new material and a proper release the web comic was just fine and would make a great extra for a collectors set.
As much as i like a proper conclusion for this series, i dont really want to see the web comic in with the collector's edition. Just like Sonic The Hedgehog (SatAM), we will never get a proper conclusion if it wasnt from the offical sources (i.e. original team). I'm looking forward to the movies, although the spark of what was once ReBoot died once Season 4 ended.

Yea but there are many TV shows that have storylines and what not that span different writers and that doesn't mean the series is not cannon or something. I mainly care about an entertaining experience, not who wrote the entertaining experience. As long as I enjoyed myself I couldn't care who wrote the plot. Now I may follow some writers who have made many shows or movies I enjoy but overall I wouldn't dismiss more material from my favorite show because its not done by the original writers.
its funny, i ran into the listings on amazon while shopping earlier this morning. I wonder if the date is accurate or TVShowsondvd assume thats the date. Can you confirm, Brian?
Another weird part is there is no Collector's set listing at all. Nice to see its listing and its 20 dollars....but like many, waiting for the collectors set.

The ReBoot date came from our retailer contacts (who either got it straight from Shout!, or else from their retail distributor Vivendi). These contacts of mine have always been correct; they are just copying and pasting info fed to them through the normal retail channels. In the few cases where some piece of info turned out to be different later, it was because the studio changed something while finalizing the project. I rarely assume anything in a news post, and if I did make an assumption I say it's an assumption in my write-up. In this case I've very confident of that date.

Well how the setup went for Sonic SatAM was durning 2007 which is the same for ReBoot, a March release was to be expected and my guess too :-). I guess if it does stay, we'll see it next month posted on shout's release calender.
BTW finally ordered Bump in the Night and AOSTH Vol 3 for my x-mas gift to myself....took me this long to gain the money for it......probably wouldnt of still if it wasnt for early christmas money from the family. C.O.P.S. Vol 2 will have to wait :-(, probably try to get it when i get ReBoot.

I want a price and date on the collector's edition. That's what I am interested in but my fear is if they make me wait to long I might just buy the normal set out of fear that the normal set would run out or dissappear, lol. It just doesn't feel real that Reboot is finally getting a complete release.
I'm wondering if either the Collector's set will be released when season 3 & 4 come out or if it'll be the last release. I wish brian would give us a clearer answer :-(.

Brian,
They haven't announced a release date for Reboot Definative Edition of Complete Series set on DVD with the price and special features and can you please give me a clearer answer? when is reboot complete series going to be released on DVD? Thank you. Happy Holidays!
Spoke with Shout! last night, they still do not have a date set on it. As soon as I hear something through the press channels, I'll update. In other news, why is TVShowsOnDVD getting everything before ReBoot.com, and we're not receiving anything through the Shout! Press Release portals? "I'm a little source code, short and stout! XBrav, TVShowsOnDVD isn't getting it first, per se. They receive the information as part of a news blast, but because they specialize in television, they're usually the first to post it. I'll try to make sure you're added to that list. Not sure why you wouldn't be.
**UPDATE** XBrav, I'm told that TVShowsOnDVD.com was not sent anything other than the announcement of the fan art contest and the acquisition notice. So they've not received anything exclusively. You are on the list, but it's run through Rainmaker. So if you're not getting it, I'd approach them about news. I should note that TVShowsOnDVD.com is linked up through Amazon to receive updates as soon as an Amazon page is put up. I'm guessing any scoops they've had may have been through those channels.
Actually, Brian (and XBrav), you're close...but it's not exactly about Amazon. It's about that the titles were solicited to retailers at all, and our friends in that end of the industry filled us in about that info. But the fact that Amazon made it public with a release listing certainly makes it all the more noticeable!
Studios and their retail distributors make a distinction between what I call "announcements to retailers" (i.e., soliciting the title) and - months afterward - "announcements to the press" (i.e., a press release or something comparable). My readers at TVShowsOnDVD make zero distinction about finding a title's date, cost, details, extras and artwork at a "DVD News site" or a "DVD Seller site". To them, it's simply all "found on the internet". So I post the info when it's made public, ANY old which way it's made public*. Otherwise my readers yell at me for ignoring the information that's out there, plain for everybody to see. Like Amazon posting a release date and price, and other retailers having the same information.
At one point or another, I suppose every studio in the industry that puts out TV-DVD titles has gotten pissed at me because I do things that way. Sorry about that, I'm just doing my job. And, now it's time for me to get back to it. Got artwork to post!
* Note, however, that we have respect for "exclusives" given to other websites or publications (just like we hope others have respect for our own scoops). Where possible we work with the site (or studio) to pass along the word about that info available over at the other place immediately (example: MST3K), or perhaps after some kind of a delay, or else not at all (until the same info is made generally public to everyone else), as seems best for that particular situation.

I often use Amazon for my shopping, probably not as much as i do when i purchase off eBay. But when i comes to pre-orders, Amazon usually is dead on the right Release Date, but often i notice it changing the dates for releases that are far in advance. Some are often push-backs or early release from the studio but at times they would put an estimate release date if lets say the company says its for a March 2011 release.
Brian, if its possible, would you be able to provide us info for consumers who are interested on the Complete set if there will be anything exclusive to the set other then the packaging? I still own my Season 3 and the Movies on dvd and thinking Season 1 & 2 will probably be my only purchase but now thinking if the Complete series will be no different then a repacking of both that and Season 3 & 4.

You're welcome. I just posted the big 3D box art that Amazon had...
XBrav, the S1-S2 set is for general release at retailers (that's how my retailer contacts were able to give me information, and how Amazon is listing it). I'm sure all the ReBoot sets will be, unless sales reallly tank on the first one (I can't believe that would happen, though).
For our part at TSoD, we always mention "Shout! Select" (or other exclusiveness, like Amazon's MOD CreateSpace program, or WBshop's Warner Archive MOD program, or "only available via the Sue Thomas F.B.Eye blog" (or Steve Canyon DVD blog, or I'm Dickens He's Fenster blog, or whatever) in every post about that title, if it's appropriate. If we miss saying so, it's a mistake on our part. Otherwise, if we don't mention that a title is only available at such-a-place, then we take it for granted that our readers understand that this title is for general release at all retail stores that wish to carry it.
Amazon does not give "press releases", any more than Target or Best Buy does, about items they sell. They're just a seller. But their release listings are easy to search on, and all day long we get reader e-mails from people who go onto that site and look for the next (or first) DVD release of their favorite TV show, and then alert us to it, hoping to get a credit in one of our news posts. :)
But it's tricky, because Amazon lists things that aren't available. For example, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 is still in theaters, but there are Amazon listings for the DVD and Blu-ray. AND for the DVD and Blu-ray of Deathly Hallows Part 2, which hasn't even made it to theaters yet. Why? They're taking names and e-mail addresses, to alert people when (or if) such a release happens. They're taking names for Diff'rent Strokes S3 on DVD (http://www.amazon.com/Diffrent-Strokes-Season-Conrad-Bain/dp/B002OOWL8Y), and have been forever, but there's absolutely no guarantee that such a title will ever get released by any studio.
I better get back to work. I've still got 3 more news stories to post today!

I want Reboot Complete Series set to be announced an released on DVD!! If Reboot sells well on DVD, what shows will they release if reboot sells well on dvd?
"As we near the highly anticipated release of ReBoot Seasons 1 & 2, we’re pleased to announce that the fan art contest has concluded and the top entries have been selected. Four winners with five submissions were chosen by Brendan McCarthy, the original production designer of Seasons 1–3. Congratulations to Mike R. for his rendition of AndrAIa, Jimmy X., a double winner with his entries of Megabyte and Gigabyte, Erin N. for a fantastic group image of the main characters and Maxwell M. for his Hexadecimal T-shirt design. We received a circuit-load of incredible entries. Thanks to everyone who participated. Look for the Seasons 1 & 2 DVD set on March 1"
They are releasing Reboot: The Complete Series in 2011. This has already been firmly established. We just don't have the exact date yet. Be patient, I'm sure we'll know soon. The Multimedia Chronicles and more:
http://www.zaranyzerak.com
so 4 winners of 5 submissions? only 5 people entered and 4 won? i entered
we’re pleased to announce that the fan art contest has concluded and the top entries have been selected. Four winners with five submissions were chosen by Brendan McCarthy,
No, actually, there were A LOT of submissions. But Brendan was particularly attracted to two that happened to be by one person, though he wasn't given names of the entrants. When you see them, you'll see why.
Brian,
I am checking on when is Shout! Factory going to release Reboot: The Complete Series on DVD and when will they take pre orders on Reboot: the Complete series on dvd like Amazon.com
Im sure its too early to ask but im gonna ask anyways, do we know how Season 4 will be treated? It was originally a full length movie (2 of them) but in later broadcast, as far as in US airing on Cartoon Network's Toonami Broadcasting, that it later turned into episodes. Will we be seeing the split episodes or a full length movie? some of us still own Season 4 on DVD that has it full length with 5.1 surround sound (which was a nice edition since i heard it in crappy mono tv).
Season 3 i need to pull back out and look but im not sure if they were encoded to 5.1 as well, not entirely sure on that. There was a nice little extra with exclusive drawlings of i belive megabyte and hex bundle with the dvd, later im gonna pull it out and see what it was. I doubt im gonna sell these but the VHS i might need to retire.
http://www.thegamemaster.org/
I can almost guarantee it'll be delivered the same way that Anchor Bay did the DVDs. As episodes, season 4 well... sucked even more. It was always intended to be watched in 2-80 minute bursts. In Canada, they usually aired Season 4 as films, and not as the episodes. However, Toonami did give a MUCH better opening recap intro: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ufy_T81I070
I believe Season 3 was 2.1 Dolby. I really have no way to verify that right now (cancel that, Amazon has it listed as Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo). Either way, I don't think these classic episodes would feel as right in 5.1. The only reason the films were made in 5.1 were to create that possibility that someday, someday, it might hit the big screen. So far, it hasn't happen. I doubt it will.
I'll have to go look at the inserts again, but some of the pictures were again featured in The Art of ReBoot, and some of them have yet to debut. The one thing that killed me about Season 3 was the lack of extras. There were so many stills rendered in HD that never made it to the DVD release. As well, I am sure there are many original renders, missing textures and models and such that would be awesome to watch.
I have a feeling we won't be seeing the S3 and S4 sets, along with the Mainframe Edition, until later in 2011. I base this on the fact that we're not seeing everything released on March 1st. It would have to be a staggered release in order to ensure the DVDs are produced properly, and that we don't encounter the issues we had with Anchor Bay. "I'm a little source code, short and stout! ReBoot: The Great Brain Robbery
Since the conversation has died down i'd post a picture of only a few ReBoot stuff i own from the past years. I have the VHSes but they are buried away. This is all my DVDs i have of the series. I forgot how clear the dvds were when watching the episodes and a little preview on the first volume has a clip of the last episode in season 2 that built the hype of the Season 3. I'm pretty sure they will be, like Season 3, i imagine Season 1 and 2 will look very good and finally clearer compared to how i originally watched it on ABC with just a basic antenna when they aired on Saturday Mornings. For those who dont own these dvds, they have character sketches, toy reviews, illistrations (also some with the dvd sets), Bios information, and animation test. The feature film, which i got originally i have the first edition of the dvd that had the terrible encoded sound that makes them sound lower then they should of. I think 3 years later, i also got the verison 2 of the dvd that has the correction....and i didnt have to send in the original (like they stated back in the original release). It only has the character gallery as an extra on that set.
And lastly the PSX game which i got Brand New for 30 dollars. I havent played through it all the way but i actually enjoy the game, even with the crummy reviews over the game. I plan on completing the game before i pick up Season 1 & 2 sets.
Well other then the VHS, i really dont own any others. The toys i was originally interested but i never really purchased. If you have a collection, and if its ok by Brian, you should post a picture (or a url to it) and show off your collection :-)
Here's the video nintendolink007 was referring to: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uRcXXTOLRYIAnchor Bay refused to replace mine, because it was out-of-print, and there was no recall notice in Canada, which sucks. So I still have manly-voiced Dot. My Seasons 1-3 have consisted of PVRing it from Teletoon Retro, because I simply cannot afford the DVDs at $150 each. That's why I'm so happy we're seeing the release as it is. "I'm a little source code, short and stout! This is my input, this is my out!"

Shout! really came through for me. The boxset is now $9.99 shipping for Canadians. Kudos! "I'm a little source code, short and stout! This is my input, this is my out!"

ReBoot: The Great Brain Robbery
Yeah, not sure what's up with the whole Canadian shipping thing. At one time, it was explained. But I can't remember why it was so expensive. Hopefully, it's more reasonable now!
well there we go, finally some news on the set. Gonna have to save up that amount and cancel my Amazon pre-order, sadly would of gotten it for 20 bucks. Can ya tell us the release date in stores for the Megabyte edition?
Also seeing this on TVShowsonDVD, this quote from the news article:
"As excitement builds for these upcoming home entertainment releases, Shout! Factory and Rainmaker Entertainment will announce additional activities and events for fans in the forthcoming months."
Hmm i wonder what that suppose to be about.
Oh and the extras look great, hopefully the Fast Forward is the Episode that was done after Season 1 that was suppose to air, which was floating around so sadly i already seen it but still great. The Commenarties would be interested to hear from both Bobs :-D.
"For our Canadian customers, we're offering a special shipping rate of $9.99, but due to a glitch in our mainframe (blame Megabyte)"
Hah, sorry thought that was a good joke :)
Found out when i purchased Bump in the Night and AOSTH Vol 3 from you guys that your distrubation studio is actually only a 5 min drive away from my house lol. I think it only took me 3 days to get it. Hah, odd question but would you know if they are hiring? :-)
http://www.thegamemaster.org/
Looks like I won't buy this. No closed captions/English subbed.
I used to watch this show when I was a kid and I LOVED it! Surprising that Shout! Factory is releasing this show soon, but I'm absolutely disappointed that there will be no CLOSED CAPTIONS/ENGLISH SUBBED on DVD.
Brian, can you confirm that Talent Night is the original Canadian version w/ YTV logo? I doubt this will be an issue, since I'm not even sure if the edited version has aired since the ABC days, but you can never be too sure!
Very happy to see cheaper shipping for Canadians! This will be a crown jewel in my home video collection! 8D
Yeah, the shipping originally came to $29, not sure where that figure came from...
Subtitles are a tricky thing. Shout! would've needed to transcribe the whole thing from Teletext to a DVD-compatible format. The issue is they would require the digital VHS tapes that were sent to broadcast stations, VS hopefully the source video that Rainmaker provided.
If you try and transcribe it from scratch, it's a HUGE job. I transcribed The Tearing once... so much dialogue... and the timing is UBER hard. It took me about 16 hours.
The YTV robot was de-branded in every version except the Canadian one. It's pretty amusing. I can only assume the original robot will be on the boxset. It wasn't until I saw an international version that I saw the de-branded robot. Here in Canada, they've never aired the international version. Even Teletoon Retro runs the original YTV tapes.
Brian, I was curious about something in the press release that was a bit confusing. In the release, it lists Seasons 1 and 2 having a runtime of 11 hours, and the Definitive Mainframe Edition having a runtime of 18 hours. Are these the times of just the episodes? Math wasn't being my friend last night. I have fans asking me every day now "How many hours of bonus content are on -insert set name-". Could you provide any details? Thanks! ReBoot: The Great Brain Robbery
Anthony, I'm not sure where you got your information, but it's incorrect. There are, in fact, closed captions.
As for "Talent Night," I can look into which version it is. I'm not as familiar as you, so I'm not entirely sure what I'm looking for. A YTV logo?
And as for bonus content, we're still desperately trying to lock some stragglers down. This one has been tricky, to say the least. Please believe me when I say, if there's something you'd like to see on the set that isn't there, it's not because we and Rainmaker haven't put in the effort!
Near the end of "Talent Night," there's a scene with Enzo walking through the rehearsal area. There, he looks up and sees a giant spinning red robot. In the original Canadian version, it has a "YTV" logo on its chest. In the edited US version, there is no logo.

Hmmm, I wonder if that logo was put on there at the source (i.e., the original production of the episode's graphics), or if the YTV channel merely superimposed it into that space themselves (much like these days all channels put a network logo "bug" into the bottom right corner of the screen). Just a thought; I may be way off here.

I have a question regarding the fan art contest. Is the fan art only going to be published in this early release of the entire series, or will it also be published in the general release later this year? I know one of the winners, so I want to be sure I get the version with his art in the book! Please let me know. Thanks.
No, it was definitely put in there by the studio. The robot itself is an old YTV symbol, and having it appear in the episode with logo was without any doubt the intention of the creators.
Also, it's unlikely that YTV would've had the in-house resources to make a change like that to an already-produced episode.

I've gone ahead and pre-ordered the Mainframe edition. I'm looking forward to seeing the show on DVD as the only ReBoot DVD I have is the glitched (oddly appropriate when you think about it) Daemon Rising/My Two Bobs disc.
One other thing I completely forgot to ask: even though we aren't getting the episode versions of season 4, will all of the alternate openings that were used for those episode cuts be included as extras? That would be really great, assuming the materials are made available.
Due to certain factors that I can't really get into, the S4 episodes will be included in their episodic forms.
As for the bonus material, we're officially done with acquisitions. Unfortunately, IMAX would not sign off on the use of the two ride films, as they have partial ownership of that material. And EA would not sign off, for the obvious reason that they'd prefer you purchase and play the game to see the cut scenes. For the record, I have all of the aforementioned material, as well as a few other things that I couldn't put on the discs for legal reasons, sitting in my office.
So the ReBoot: The Definitive Mainframe Edition will include the booklet, the original behind-the-scenes episode Fast Forward: The Making of ReBoot, a roughly 30-minute retrospective with Gavin Blair that is absolutely awesome and some original animated character models. These bonus features are only available in the complete series set. The individual sets, as well as the complete series, will include the commentaries with producer Christopher Brough, designer/storyboard artist Blair Peters, animator/director Zeke Norton, Michael Benyaer ("Bob"), Ian James Corlett ("Glitch Bob") and voice director Michael Donovan ("Mike the TV"/"Phong").
I can only assume this is due to Anchor Bay's release of Season 4. Though I do not expect you to confirm this Brian.
Could you please let me know how the episodes are being presented? Are they full-screen, or anamorphic widescreen? Thanks! "I'm a little source code, short and stout! This is my input, this is my out!"
-Enzo Matrix
ReBoot: The Great Brain Robbery
yeah i was kinda hoping they would be in episode format. They were better that way really. Its ashame the ride videos wont be part of it as they are the only thing i never seen before nor did i ever do the rides when i was a kid.
Understandfully, im not too surprise or disappointed that EA wont allow you to use the video, although it would of been nice if EA can re-release it for people who never played it. But thankfully i still own my copy and plan on playing and finishing the game.
Only thing left is hopefully those bumpers are still there and im all set :). Already pre-ordered (and canceled my Amazon pre-order) the set and ready for the date. Funny part is i'll probably see the set before anyone unless they are also in Indiana area too. http://www.thegamemaster.org/
Brian, can you post a list of the episode order? I ask because I've seen a few lists that switch around an episode or two (ie. "The TIFF" is sometimes erroneously listed as episode 6, when that is actually "In The Belly of The Beast") in the first Season.
Thanks for all the hard work you've done to make sure the ReBoot fans get some nice extras! It's a shame legal matters prevent us from having more, but I suppose there's always hope for another DVD release if and/or when the original co-creators are able to finish up Season 4 (IF that ever happens, I'd love more cast and crew commentary). ReBoot Revival: http://rebootrevival.com
I hate to bug you again, but, as I asked before, is the fan art contest winners only going to published in the Shout! website release, or will it also be in the general release? I ask because a friend of mine was one of the winners. Please let me know! Thanks.
Since its slow, i saw over at ReBoot.com, they got a Shout Factory Ad for the ReBoot Mainframe Set. Pretty nice. Hopefully we'll see a trailer ad or even commercial if Rainmaker is gonna promote it.
Oh and a little off topic, about 3 weeks before Nintendo 3DS and my car insurance (6 months), gonna be tight.
I am actually decided to sell off the VHS, Season 3 and Anchor's Season 4 movie since honestly Shout will have a better setup the way i want. Plus watching Season 3's dvds, i notice the encoded is not great, notice alot of issues when playing it through my LCD compared to the regular tv. I might be able to raise the 80 bucks without saving :)

I wouldn't hold my breath. Rainmaker has been very..... uh... how do I put this in not too harsh terms...... um... VERY LACKING when it comes to doing any work to promote ReBoot. There are countless fans who still have no idea that there will be a DVD set out, or even what Rainmaker has (and supposedly still is) working on when it comes to ReBoot.

Yeah other then ads on there website, i never seen anything since Rainmaker was born. Im not gonna hold my breath even when the movies ever make it to theaters (i honestly see direct to video happening).
The fan images will appear in the booklet included with the complete series set, both as an exclusive here and when it eventually surfaces at retail. They will not be included, however, with the individual season sets being released.
I can't remember if I asked this before, but will the videos be interlaced, or progressive? "I'm a little source code, short and stout! This is my input, this is my out!"

i don't know if this has been asked before, but will any of the ReBoot TV Specials be released on DVD by Shout? Here lies Guybrush Threepwood.
Why didn't you buy his fine leather jackets?
--The epitaph that got me a free Telltale Game!
Couple of issues with the trailer. The BIG one is that it states "26 episodes" when Seasons 1 and 2 totalled 23. Might want to fix this. The other is, there's some serious "combing" in the image due to it apparently not being de-interlaced for YouTube. DVD from video source = interlaced. Online video = deinterlaced.
The Multimedia Chronicles and more: http://www.zaranyzerak.com
I'm sorry if this has been asked before, but I couldn't find the answer I was looking for. Will the Definitive Mainframe Edition be sold at retail stores? Or is this a shout store exclusive? Please let me know, thanks.
As of now, this is a Shout! exclusive, but like Transformers and G.I. Joe, I would expect them to eventually hit retail, though that's simply me talking and not the Sales or Marketing departments. That's really between them and the retailers. If the retailers want it, I'd say it's a done deal. If not, as they're incredibly thrifty these days, it'll remain an exclusive. I know that's not a definitive answer, but it's the best I can do right now.
Hi. I don't have too terribly much to add to the conversation here. In fact, I didn't even know these DVD's were coming out until very, very recently. All I really want to say is thank you to Shout Factory for all the hard work on making this release a reality, and thank you for the constant welcoming of input and suggestions from fans. Cheesy as it may sound, ReBoot was a show that changed my life. It stirred my interest in the world of computers, which would become a beloved hobby and eventually a career. And now to have the whole show on DVD nearly 17 years (!!) after the adventure first began... it's just awesome.
I've read just about everything that has been discussed in this thread, and I am curious to know if The Trias Effect shorts made it into the extras? I missed many of those as Superhuman Samurai Cyber Squad(the show that aired after these shorts) was not really worth waking up for, plus our local ABC station messed up the very first short and played it with no dialogue audio. I was so annoyed at the time! lol
I'm hoping that they did along with the multiple end changes in Medusa Bug and the bumpers used for commericals breaks. Hopefully there are easter eggs we arent told but who knows.

Hmm as much as it wont matter for me since i pre-ordered the set, we haven't heard much other then the press release of the digital formats. But for people who do want it, where are they downloadable for?
Also check this out, im sure this is taken from the DVD set. Amazon has 2 videos up to show you how good the set is gonna be.
Not sure if this is even legit or if someone is making this up but someone over at reboot's forum has the season 1 & 2 set and claims there is an error on the menu.
Has a picture of the menu so if you dont want to be spoiled, i would ignore this. But this user claims the menu says Season 4 the Season 1 & 2 set. http://www.thegamemaster.org/
After a few messages, Brian confirmed the issue. There is now a disclaimer on the purchase page.

Just as we were about to ship your ReBoot: The Definitive Mainframe Edition DVD set we discovered a slight error in Disc 1. The good news is that we have moved megabytes to produce a replacement disc that corrects the error and we will be shipping the replacement disc in the same package with your DVD set. Unfortunately, this has delayed our shipping by a few days. We are doing everything possible to minimize the delay and hope to have all product shipped by the middle of this week. Please accept our apologies.
Thanks for your purchase.
Your friends at Shout! Factory
A little disappointed but understandable to please the fan :-) Knowning your work Brian it'll be worth the wait. Besides, gets me some more time to actually play ReBoot the game to get myself hyped up for the set anyways....of course playing Marvel Vs Capcom 3 is kinda killing that idea honestly :-D

I'll post some if my copy somehow arrives in Canada before the rest :P. Looking at the sizes of the 4 disk set (probably going to buy tomorrow anyways), the 9 disk set is probably going to be at least 2 inches wide. Add in the 20-page booklet, and the card, and you've got a hefty parcel on your way!
I have been told that we will all receive e-mails as our orders ship, so I'll try and keep you updated.

I made a page cause i didnt want to flood this forums page and i didnt want to spoil people who didnt
want to see it till they got the set. Sorry for the quality of the pictures, the best i have is my cellphone to take the shots.
Oh and a little warning, be careful on opening it, i almost cut off the boxart. But it was only minor.......the best part is.....not one scratch anywhere. Thank you brian, again! You made a fan very happy. I wish i can watch these now but sadly i gotta get ready for work. But as a geeky guy, plan on watching them on saturdays only.....dont ask why, like i said, im a geeky guy.
Although going through the 'error' disc 1 that i replaced just to see how the quality is. It is outstanding. It puts my VHS, recording off Cartoon Network, and the DVDs to Season 3 & 4 to shame. Its in excellent quality. And its say alot of someone who has it upscaled to 1080p [hdmi] on his 41in tv :).
Although i am sorta disappointed about one thing i'll have to say and i like to ask you, Brian, on why it wasnt included. There were bumpers that were playing durning its running on ABC Saturday Mornings and Ytv was airing them....actually have a recording of season 4 episode with the bumper so obviously it wasnt created by the network but the bumper they use in between the commericals.

Oh and although i did say i wont watch it till saturday...i couldnt help to check out a few things, i can answer the question for Medusa episode, however, unless there is an easter egg(?) on the set, they used the verison 2(?) of medusa virus ending.
I actually went and bought Seasons 1 and 2 today from HMV in Canada, because I HAD to have it. They had one copy, and the clerk didn't even know they carried it :'(. Either way, I spread the word today.
Got back to campus, forgot I replaced my laptop's optical drive with an SSD. So I had to wait until I got home.
So, I can confirm stock has arrived in Canada. Now, as for the actual boxset, still waiting on my sets. I'm confused with what extras are in the Season 1+2 vs the complete collection. I know the complete collection has Fast Forward, the Gavin interview and the 20 page art book. I hear that Season 1+2 has audio commentary on Belly of the Beast.
Does the complete collection have any more audio commentary other than that ? I don't know what package to get. I need season 1 and 2 (don't we all), but I have dvds of season 3 and 4. Any suggestions or information would be most appreciated.
Thanks
Ok, simply put, the Mainframe edition contains the exact same Seasons 1 and 2 set, so that helps for picking up the set.
The commentary on Seasons 1 and 2 start on The Tearing, and go through In The Belly of the Beast. That is by Chris Brough, and a few others.
Now, there are a few cool reasons why you might wanna get the full set.
Firstly, Season 4 is presented in episode format, NOT movie format. This means you'll get 8-22 min episodes. This also means you'll get the short ep recaps, and the AMAZING episode opening that wasn't on the Anchor Bay release:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ufy_T81I070
As for Season 3, there are new extras (don't have my set yet, otherwise I could tell ya) that weren't present on the ADV release.
Add in the art book, and the special disc with some EPIC old promos (even us diehards hadn't seen yet, they were pre-broadcast), and the interview with Gavin, $69.95 is a steal :) "I'm a little source code, short and stout! This is my input, this is my out!"
Season 3 has audio commentary with both bobs michael benyaer, ian james corlett, and voice director michael donovan (phong). Not sure how long it is and which episode but sounds like a tempting offer for people who have season 3 on dvd. Both bobs....now thats just neat. Im thinking of saying the heck with it and gonna just watch them instead of my original idea.
BTW Ign did a review on the set and gave shout the best score i seen....of course IGN lost my respect along time ago with there less then motivated reviews. 7.0 out of 10. Trust me, dont listen to them.

Add in the art book, and the special disc with some EPIC old promos (even us diehards hadn't seen yet, they were pre-broadcast), and the interview with Gavin, $69.95 is a steal :)

Thanks for the extra details on the complete set. Looks like that will be the one that I'll order. So does B Ward give
you commission for making a sale ? :-) Thanks again for all the info.

One fan on another forum mention this and i went to check it myself. Season 4 Episode 7 right after the 13:00 mark, there is some sound glitches when the music gets loud. I hear it between when the commercial break ends right when the wedding music plays up to 14:53. Havent gone through the episode but thats when it stopped. To me, its not a big issue....just a minor glitch but it isnt disrupted unless you are listening to it in your surround sound.
http://www.thegamemaster.org/
The sound issue is actually on the master tape itself. We were used to the direct cut in film form prior to this release, but the tapes were designed for larger broadcast breaks.
As well, these are all coming from digital beta I believe, not actual digital renders. As such, there might be a rare pop or click due to the medium it came from. "I'm a little source code, short and stout! This is my input, this is my out!"
I'm starting to watch Season 1 and i notice very minor sound glitches but im gonna try it across my regular tube tv and see what i get. But to me they are minor but the glitches from Season 4 sound like the audio was too high. I'm gonna mess with some settings and see if it isnt just something set wrong thats causing it.
BTW if your watching this on a upconversion dvdplayer or pc, i wouldnt. I've notice some minor video glitches. I'd watch the same episode on my regular dvd player to the same tv and it was very clean and clear without the glitches. I was having this same problem with Spider-man The new animated series, also a Mainframe Ca production. I dont know if its cause my lcd tv's flicker rate is terrible or the 3D from the show. I never had this problem when i was watching Sonic The Hedgehog or any other 2D show. But i say this, this is sure a better encode compared to ADV's releases, thats for sure. Even watching it on a regular dvd player still had its video issues.
http://www.thegamemaster.org/
I'm looking to get the Mainframe set, but I have a question.
Is that lenticular card still available to get when you order the set from Shout Factory's website? It says if you pre-order it you get it, but then on the main page it says "Limited 3D Lenticular Postcard Included Free With Purchase!".
I just want to make 100% sure that if I place an order for it, I will get that lenticular card. When I go to my cart, only the Box set and the replacement disc are included. Is the lenticular card supposed to be listed in my cart as well?
I'd really like to know this ASAP so I can put my order in so I can get that card.
Yeah, the scalers on DVD players suck for animated features. I can completely agree with you on the Spiderman DVDs too (I finally got my copy of it, along with Scary Godmother. Now onto Shadow Raiders). Anyways, the best way to scale up ReBoot is to use a smart scaler, and use a YADIF 2x deinterlacing engine :)

As for other news, I am trying to find info on the Canadian shipments of the Mainframe Edition. Support so far has said:
Dear Customer:
We have not received the shipment file from our Canadian partner yet so we are unable to process your order at this time.
We hope to have an update for you shortly.
Sincerely, Shout! Factory Online Customer Support
I really dunno how to interpret that... *RAGES AT CANADIAN PARTNER* HURRY UP. "I'm a little source code, short and stout! This is my input, this is my out!"
1) Bonus Disc:
- Fast Forward: The Making of ReBoot (yeah the special that was on the internet....excellent quality too)
- Looking Back at ReBoot with Co-Creator Gavin Blair
- Animated Character Models (demo reel)
2) The ending with the Gamecube and gang runs up to screen before credits (with medusa bug). Sadly, no Trias Effect on disc....unless its an easter egg but nothing is confirmed ATM.

So a couple of things nobody seems to be talking about and are ironically the things I'm most dying to know...
1. Can someone list what's actually on the Bonus disc? Very curious about what archival extras were cleared, and any new goodies of course.
2. Alternate Medusa Bug ending and Treas Effect mini-episodes anywhere to be found?
Looked everywhere on the web, scanned this thread top to bottom and there's just no definitive info to be found on these two things...
Thanks!

From what I've heard, on Shout's Reboot DVD, the season 4 episodes are in 2.0, but when they were released on DVD in the past (by Anchor Bay, IIRC) they were in 5.1. Could someone please clarify why that is? Was it just a mistake, or does Rainmaker no longer have access to the 5.1 versions?
Brian cannot explain it, but it's probably a result of licensing conflicts.
Here's the thing: Yes, the Anchor Bay release is out of print. I know this because I contacted them too late to get a new disc for my borked Season 4. However, they still own the distribution rights on that specific release.
Here's how Shout! got around that. Shout! got the release rights for the made-for-TV version. This was the one that was broadcast on Television Networks such as Cartoon Network and YTV. In 2001, digital cable was just coming out. No television broadcast signals were built to transmit 5.1. In order to make sure we heard everything that was going on, the television cut was mixed down to 2.0. As well, I believe digital beta, the primary form of video medium in industry up until recently, is only compatible with 2.0 and Dolby.
If that doesn't make sense, think about it. Watch a movie with just 2 channel audio. Unless the stereo blends the tracks down, you'll be missing out on a lot of the sounds.
So simply put, you're getting the television broadcast of Season 4. To be honest, I'm quite surprised to hear that they even made a 16x9 broadcast version, I've only seen it in 4x3.

This was the reason why i didnt sell my Season 4 DVD. I expected that much as soon as i heard they are in episode format. Honestly, the episodes were a better choice as alot of us seen it that way back when Toonami aired it and for you canadians, YTV i think did the movie before the episodes.....cant be for sure. http://www.thegamemaster.org/
Yeah, it was a film premiere here. I thought it ran a bit better in episode form, but seeing it in widescreen was AMAZING. YTV, on RARE occasions, still plays the movies on their Saturday feature.
WHEN I get my boxset, I can provide a lot more detail. "I'm a little source code, short and stout! This is my input, this is my out!"
I still have my ADV release. I had the bad audio first which i sold on ebay along time ago, and now i have the corrected verison and it does look and sound great.

Hmm interesting. I watch In The Belly of the Beast episode and notice some....additions. I even compared it to my Cartoon Network broadcast and confirmed a difference.
@ 13:14 there is a evil laugh from the doctor who is operating the controls, its not in the cartoon network broadcast episode.
that seemed to be the only thing i saw changed. http://www.thegamemaster.org/
^ Quite a bit of difference from the ABC version I saw many years ago. I remember watching it as a kid and wondering why the audio continually faded out and seemed incomplete. It turns out that they censored a lot of Frisket's farts and Megabyte's dialogue at the end. On the ABC run we just saw Hack and Slash just looking confused and waving and Megabyte walks off saying nothing. Pretty funny.
I've finished the first disc and have enjoyed it a lot. There is one gripe I have but I'm not sure if it's a problem with the DVD or the 17 year old material. In some scenes, most noticeably far shots of Mainframe, there is a LOT of artifacting and aliasing. Granted, I'm watching this on a much better set that I was in 1994, and it's not in every scene so it's probably just the old animation not playing well with my HD set. I should probably try a different player/software as well. I have noticed a few audio this and that's, but most of it seems to be from the production itself. Listening to some of the commentary, I can understand why. This show sounded like a nightmare to produce at first.
As for rewatching the show for the first time in many years, all I can say is wow. Sure the animation looks dated and some of the production was clunky, but even so this show is still a total joy to watch. It's clever, fun, good storytelling and pioneered an entire artform of cartoons. Good stuff. :)
Well unforutually i dont remember the episode too well back durning the abc days probably cause it wasnt repeated much but i dont remember those moments. I wish i recorded them back in the day. A friend of mine had the recording of the Land of the Lost episodes that played before ReBoot and have that announcer that broadcast the next episode, which i thought was neat. Another thing if anyone remember was when ABC did a Saturday Morning Preview show and had Megabyte in that episode trying to stop the kids from showing the clips of the new season which they played durning TGIF days before the premiere of ReBoot...wish i could find someone who has that still.

What you are seeing now is the full frame of the reboot episodes. When it was released, it was sent across NTSC television signals, which I believe are usually 320x240. As such, many of the shortcuts you see now were otherwise "invisible" before.
I recommend if you want many laughs, check out my thread on glitches / shortcuts over at the Java Hut:
This is one of the all time best DVD sets Shout has ever put out. ReBoot fans have been waiting seconds for this set to finally hit stores and the wait was worth it. Season one and two captured beautifully on DVD. This has been the highlight of my month.
. . .
That's what I would like to say but it seems my access is denied. Not one single retailer in my area is selling this set. None, zilch nada, end of line, CTRL ALT DEL, WTF! Before anyone says "Just order it online" that's not gonna happen. I would think that a fine company like Shout would want to cater to all their customers online and off. Guess I'll just have to keep waiting to see if that changes. Love with your heart, use your brain for everything else. - Captain Disillusion
Where are you located? Shout! is selling the set exclusively for a couple of months. Honestly, I can't blame them. It'll hit retailers later in the year, probably when they release the Seasons 3&4 set. "I'm a little source code, short and stout! This is my input, this is my out!"
I'm on the Florida Space Coast. I'm just looking for the Season 1 and 2 set. There arn't even that many online outlets I can get it from. Walmart.com had it before it went on sale and then stopped selling it. I can't get Target to send it site to store, and on top of that I work at a video store (one with blue shirts and yellow name tags) and it's not being sold in any of our stores.
:( Love with your heart, use your brain for everything else. - Captain Disillusion
There was that disc error that might've spawned a product recall, explaining the minimal stock nationwide. Amazon has it in stock if you really need your fix. I bought mine off the shelf in Canada at HMV. "I'm a little source code, short and stout! This is my input, this is my out!"
It's easily been hours at this point and I can't wait to get my hands on it!
I'll finally be able to retire my "DVDs" of broadcast quality episodes. I think I'll still keep the movie versions of season four around, as the only DVD copy I have of them has the sound issues.

This 9-disc set is without a doubt one of the best releases I've ever had the pleasure of purchasing! Jumping into season 2 tonight. Enjoyed an awesome Season 1 marathon, loved the bonus features (commentaries, documentary stuff). This is fantastic. The booklet and "postcard" rocked too.
Well, I'm from Canada too and still no sign of my boxset! Don't worry, I think we're not the only ones. XBrav is waiting for his copy too if I'm right.
Yeah, Headquarters is looking into it. Seems nothing has shipped in Canada yet. Apparently Shout! doesn't ship outside the US, but rather, has a Canadian company ship them out, to reduce the shipping costs. The clearest answer I've received is the seller hasn't reported back any units being shipped yet... not sure why. I'm supposed to call back tomorrow.

Yeah!! I received an e-mail yesterday and my order has been shipped!! Words can not describe my happiness right now!! Finally, the wait is over and I'll be able to watch the series from beginning to the end. We have been patient guys, now it's our turn to celebrate! :)
I believe you owe your customers and ReBoot fans a huge apology.
I could settle for the lack of features if at least I could enjoy the episodes of my favourite show finally with a decent transfer.
Whoever dealt with authoring, or perhaps the Rainmaker sources themselves didn''t process the footage correctly.
Each episode from Seasons 1 and 2 run about 2 minutes longer than they should, biggest giveaway for a glance is that the intro runs 2 seconds longer than my VHS transfers
...and honestly, it doesn't matter whose end screwed up the transfer (you or Rainmaker) because in the end you guys are the ones releasing it...
This is a screenshot of my VHS transfer intro (top waveform) to my DVD intro (bottom waveform). As you can see, the DVD waveform runs quite some time after the first.
There is also a clear sound of pitch-correction artifacts throughout the two seasons and perhaps others but I haven't checked just yet.
What I think happened is you guys slowed down the 25fps PAL footage and brought it to film speed 23.98 and to compensate for the audio being slowed down, you gave it a pitch boost... nice try.
Editors often say a frame extra here and there can change a good moment from a bad moment... with 60 extra frames every minute... you do the math.
I can't comfortably make it through an episode from those seasons because it seems to just drawl out with the speed problems and as a customer, I don't want to pay almost $80 for something that is not new (yeah we all saw fast forward almost 6 years ago) and is worse than our old VHS copies that at least play at the right speed.
Ok, compared The Tearing on the DVD to my D-Beta copy in original 25 PAL. Indeed, it looks like the 25HZ PAL was run at 23.976P before being boosted to 29.97 NTSC. I'll have a side by side asap, as soon as my MPEG2 codec stops hating me.

Yikes, that looks AWFUL. If this comparison video is accurate, I just might be seeking a refund.
Shout used exactly what they were given, NTSC masters by Rainmaker.
Rainmaker has gone to crap in recent years considering they could do a proper PAL-NTSC conversion 15 years ago.
The one thing worth mentioning- Rainmaker is not in the 'chain' for Beast Wars anymore (like they are with Reboot, since they own that franchise.) Hasbro owns it lock, stock and barrel, including all the masters. The shows being close timewise for DVD releases is simply coincidence.

- Season 2 intro looks to not be in the sets. I only watched Infected so im not sure if its in later episodes. A little disappointing but not a big lost honestly
- Also i need a confirm on this from others. While watching Infected (Season 2 Episode 1), when Bob was recharging Glitch and was talking to Spirit(?) Phong, there is a loud short sound glitch that pops after Phong's first speech. Does this happen to u guys?
- Season 2's credit has the originals except for the mainframe part.
Will contiune to watch more probably tomorrow.

Guys, I'm kind of disappointed to hear all that. I'm still waiting for my copy, but I sure hope the transfer is not as bad as it seems... Sometimes people are nitpicking on DVD releases, so I'll wait and see for myself.
Even ignoring 'quality', which is a benchmark that can change from person to person, there is still the question of 'is this the way the show is meant to be.
Based on timing alone, the answer is no.

A stupid question. How do you know the old copy you had was not "speeded up to fit into the allotted time" :-) ? Is there
something written some where that says this episode is XX minutes long ? I'm beginning to think there is a curse on
DVD of this show. First the season 3 had the pulldown error years ago and now this.
For what it's worth, after watching countless VHS tapes, tv broadcasts, and international masters, this is definitely slower.
Give me a bit, and I'll demux the audio, and put it to a sound editor. If you zoom in, you should be able to see if it was stretched or not.
*edit*
Looks like Rainmaker provided the masters as such... Christ this company has given us a hard time :S.

XBrav,
I didn't mean to imply that you were wrong. I just remember seeing programs on TV and when I bought them on DVD/VHS/etc I was amazed how much the broadcasters had changed/edited them. You got a pretty good eye/ear to pickup the change.
Well, shows are actually produced to broadcast within a certain time frame and, as such, it is not unheard of for writers to actually write down to the second. J. Michael Stracynski has mentioned doing this for a Babylon 5 TV movie, at least. Sometimes, however, a show will be edited from how it was originally produced as the amount of time allotted for advertising may have increased, thus resulting in footage which will not be available outside a home release. Unless something is produced direct to DVD, the running time will always be dictated by the medium of broadcast and the business decisions behind them. (ie: a move may have significant editing for time from a "director's cut" in order for a theatre to screen it 5 times a day instead of 4, etc.)
I can't say for certain, but I think Star Trek falls into this category as, when it was originally made in the 60s, it ran 50+ minutes as opposed to the 44 (or fewer) minutes hour long dramas run these days. In fact, during the run of Star Trek: Voyager. episodes produced at the start of the season may actually run longer than the time available as the advertising policy may have been amended following the start of production and prior to when the episodes would actually air.
On the DVDs I made of my broadcast recordings of ReBoot, all episodes up to the first episode of season three ran roughly 22 minutes and 30 seconds, whereas the rest of the episodes are roughly 10 seconds shorter. Unless I pull out those discs and take a look, I'm not sure if I edited out the commercial bumpers, so the actual running time might be a bit different. As I recorded all of the episodes from YTV broadcasts, it is reasonable to assume that there was no editing of content as YTV was involved with the production of the show.
If the episodes on these DVDs are a minute or two longer and don't contain any additional material, then the speed is definitely an issue. If the show was altered to fit a time slot, it would most likely be in the form of editing material for time instead of speeding up the program itself. Just as it disorienting to watch something play slower and at a lower pitch, it would be just as disorienting (and perhaps even worse) to experience a sped up show as the dialogue would not sound natural at all. It would be like, although not to such an extreme, playing a DVD at double speed.

A stupid question. How do you know the old copy you had was not "speeded up to fit into the allotted time" :-) ?
Sure, the masters received were as such. But why? Why is there a speed difference in the first place? Was it Rainmaker who is responsible for the slowdown, or was it the networks was slightly sped them up? Was there more than 1 set of masters and possibly a different set given to the networks? Or were the same masters given to the networks, and they are responsible for the speed up on the broadcast episodes?
I'd love to hear some official word from Brian about this. Some official explanation as to why there is a speed difference, other than "That's how we received them".
There is definately some audio degradation if you know what to listen for.
This is on Rainmaker.
The only way Shout could 'fix' the issue is if Rainmaker provided them with proper masters.
And the truth of the matter is, Brian couldn't really say much outside of 'that is how we got them' until there is something to say (which there may never be, as far as Rainmaker may be concerned, the masters may be 'fine', even if they are screwed up.)

I received my set the other day and the first thing I did was listen to the commentary on the first disc. The commentary, at least, sounded good so I put in the bonus disc to watch the Gavin Blair feature and the audio in the clips shown was, to be blunt, awful.
Had there been something like what happened with the Anchor Bay release for the movies, it would at least be something I could live with. But what these discs have isn't a "slowdown" but a consistent warbling which does not make for an enjoyable viewing experience and, I swear, there's an audio glitch right when Dot receives Bob's call during "Talent Night." When I was watching it, there was a pop and the right channel cut out entirely for a moment.
I really hate to do so as I have really wanted this show on DVD for years, but I'm gonna have to return the set. I couldn't even make it all the way through "Talent Night" because of how distracting the sound issues were. It certainly looks good and I appreciate the effort Shout! put into the set, but for the money spent it is not an acceptable result.
Rainmaker certainly dropped the ball on this one.

There is definately some audio degradation if you know what to listen for.
Talent Night was apparently one of the worst offenders for these "warbling" sound problems, but I've watched the episode twice and I didn't notice any problems through my sound system. I've checked a few episodes, and the only one where the audio sounded off was "To Mend and Defend" where Dot's voice seemed a bit out of pitch. I probably wouldn't have noticed if I hadn't been listening for it though. Maybe these glitches have something to do with certain sound setups? Or maybe I just need to check a few more episodes, haha.
The frame rate still bothers me, and I wish Rainmaker would do something to help address the problem if it truly is out of Shout's hands. I would say it's significant enough to warrant a replacement program, but it seems to be up in the air whether or not the issue is even resolvable. I'm also disappointed that the YTV robot didn't appear in Talent Night, but again, those are probably the only masters that Rainmaker made available to Shout.
Im too gonna try it in a dvd player instead of through my pc. I sorta can hear it (of course i dont have surround sound) but honestly its not enough to cause problems. But i like to see if i can hear it through my dvd player on my old tube tv. http://www.thegamemaster.org/
Stopped by this thread to see if anyone else had noticed what I was noticing. I made it through the entire series and the issue exists on every single disc and it isn't anyone's imagination. And "warbling" is exactly how would have described it.
Listen to the background music in any episode. It's most noticeable there, but it's easier to just start any Season 1 episode and listen to the intro music.
This is not acceptable and it's not worth 70 bucks.
I'm using just a regular Panasonic DVD player, nothing fancy but it hasn't given me any issues on the other DVDs I have watched on it. I've watched "Daemon Rising" and "Cross Nodes" and while there is still the warbling, it is nowhere near as bad as "Talent Night" nor have I experienced any other sort of glitch as the one I mentioned above.
The closest example to the sound I am experiencing is in this video (which, judging from the lower pitched voices, is from the Anchor Bay release) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ii-W-dLeTww at 7:30 when Bob is contacted by Cardon. The effect used on Cardon's voice is almost exactly what happens to dialogue in the Rainmaker masters. (I know Shout! wouldn't be capable of that incompetence)

I've been watching them and have yet to notice anything strange, what kind of DVD player/tv are you watching them on?
How do the voices in the Shout Factory version compare to the video Manic posted below? Anyone?

- In Painted Windows, there is a sound glitch at when dot says "Bob wouldnt go without a plan". Small glitch in the audio kinda the same from the Infected episode. It will be noticeable as i was listening to it through my LCD 2-channel tv on 4 volume bar so be warn.
- Also in the same episode, as far as i know, one thing new to US viewers and thats this was the uncensored episode that ABC and Cartoon Network had edited out. I wont give it away but watch at the near end right when bob undos the paint. :) http://www.thegamemaster.org/
(nods) I just compared to the old ADV discs, and the audio pitch is indeed corrected for the %4 slowdown on those episodes as well. Tho I dunno what's worse - a lower pitch or the warbling caused by the adjustment method, which I found most noticeable in the female voices. Didn't think it'd bother me that much, but once spotted it's quite grating. Both the ADV series 3 and Anchor Bay series 4 (corrected version) are the correct framerate and don't have the peculiar audio artifact.
This is quite discouraging, though I suppose since Anchor Bay had the same trouble with mishandling 25 FPS as 24 too this seems to be an established curse.
Tho I am glad to finally have series 1 & 2 finally, and it's a lovely package. (and wishing that Hex t-shirt was available!)
It's a pity all the bonus video content from the ADV discs didn't make it here... except the toy promo reel from disc 4 (and now with sound!), but looks to have been from a lower resolution source - soft image and extreme aliasing present. But the character & background animation tests on the other three volumes didn't make it - unless I missed a menu option somewhere. The galleries of concept art also got a miss, but those can be had in the "Art of ReBoot" book in much greater detail and more extensive, so wouldn't count it so much as a loss.
Tho I hate to bring more rain to the parade, there's unfortunately also a bug in the third feature on the bonus disc: the promo reel is incorrectly flagged (in both the VTS descriptors and stream video pack flags) as 16:9 anamorphic when the content is actually 4:3! (for some reason while it seems fairly common for players to be set to forcibly stretch 4:3 to 16:9, I've not yet seen the reverse as an option - tho a 16:9 display usually can, but its scaling result in my experience is usually comparatively quite ugly.)
I got my shipping confirmation the other day, but I'm not sure whether to be excited or not about this set. There's seems to be too many issues with it.
That would be erased though if some word comes out that corrected disks would be issued as replacements.
Hm, the more information that I'm seeing, tends to lead me to believe the copies Rainmaker provided Shout! were faulty. What happened to the "original" masters is an unknown still..... and given the treatment Rainmaker has given me, and fellow fans, I'm not really that surprised that they didn't care about the audio or any other issues with what they gave to Shout.
I'm quite frustrated because it seems in this case, despite how well Shout! has handled things (and I don't place any blame on this company), they appear to be unable to do anything in this situation. What makes the situation worse is my location. Being in NYC, this makes going with torch and/or pitchfork to Rainmaker's HQ in Vancouver, and demand they provide Shout! with proper masters, hard to do.
I am not sure it it's just a nitpicky thing but I am about four episodes deep into season 1 and have not heard these audio problems people are complaining about. I play it on my 5.1 surround sound system and everything sounds right.
Yeah i have to agree with GlitchBob...Shout Did a great job with what was provided with them so i dont give them any blame. What disappoints me, which is not a first, is how Rainmaker is treating its fans. It gives the fans hopes and go the right direction at start but if they are not willing to produce the correct material for there first CGI series, they are just gonna push the fans away even more. I guess it'll be Rainmaker's move if they want to correct this sistation....if they will at all, like GitchBob stated on how difficuilt getting any type of communication to support there fans. But at least for one thing, we did get the sets....but whatever the status of the movie is going....seems to have died off.
I watched through Season 1 & 2. I'm gonna try playing the noticeable glitches in my standard DVD player and see if i can hear them through that. But other then the very small audio glitches in most of the episodes, it is at least decent enough not to be a huge distraction. This is one reason why i wont be getting rid of my recordings off Cartoon Network. Hopefully, if anything, the fanbase might try to fix the audio problems with there own sources. But this is just a thought.

My question is, if there are others who cannot hear these issues and have a better setup than I do, should I seek a replacement and hope for a somewhat better result? I love the show and I am loathe to give up such a good release even with the audio issues.
That question is up to Shout if they can get Rainmaker to hand over the better verisons.
Oh and just watched Season 3 Episode 1......is it me or do the voices seem deeper or have i just not watched season 3 for awhile? :)

If To Mend and Defend was really that deep, then Megabyte woould've been voiced by Barry White, not Tony Jay!
Yeah, seems the original quadrology of S3 eps are pitch farked.

"I'm a little source code, short and stout! This is my input, this is my out!"
Wow, I'm stunned by the long list of issues with this set...this is one I've been looking forward to for YEARS.
Improperly converted framerate, slowdown, pitch issues, warbling audio, Season 2 intro missing...yikes. Rainmaker really dropped the ball on this one.
Who in their right mind would convert 25fps masters to 23.98...then convert again to 29.97 after that...WHY??? It should have gone straight from 25 to 29.97, done. 23.98 shouldn't even be in the equation, nothing can be gained from it. What a mess.
Well, I'm sad to say it, but I'll be taking a pass on this set. I could live with the lack of archival extras, but errors to this degree would make it completely unwatchable to me. Expect a Rainmaker rant video at some point... Glad I kept my VHS recordings.

Btw, Season 2 does have it's intro... just not at the start of Season 2. Episodes 1 ("Infected") and 2 ("High Code") of Season 2 have an odd mix of the Season 1 intro, with the "No one knows for sure, but I intend to find out. ReBoot!" video from Season 2 (as one can tell from Enzo's appearance) at the end. The full Season 2 intro appears with episode 3 ("When Games Collide"), and is present for each S2 episode after that.

Yeah the audio can be a bit of a headache (and you'd be surprise on many fans are working fixed it), but its not a big issue that distracts away from watching. Its only noticeable if you are listening to it loud. I watched the entire season 1 & 2 (Right now im at Season 3 Episode 3), i didnt have a big issue with it.
As much as i agree with you on the lack of extras (working on my own extras dvd for myself), but the solo extras are a real treat. I think the commentaries are my favorites. I'm currently listening to the second one right now with Both Bobs and Phong/Mike The Tv voice actors. There are some interesting tidbits from all three, one noticeable one im not sure if he was providing a hint or was joking but Michael Benyaer was saying "Maybe being a voice of Megabyte in the new Movie? Who knows". That would be the only one i'd spoil in hopes that the Movies are still in the making....but of course i dont know if he was just joking. Oh and there was a little shout out to another favorite tv series Shout released that one of the voice actors were talked about...wont tell you who or what show but i laughed when he did the voice.

I still think people are nitpicking this box set. I can't imagine that these so called "audio" problems are worse then watching these shows on VHS recorded off of the TV or from the bootlegs most have. I am about six episodes in on season one and still haven't heard anything close to significantly annoying with the shows audio. It's hooked up to my surround sound system and looks and sounds fine to me. I mean I see some people complaining about this box set yet plan to buy C.O.P.S. from mills creek which I am sure will have plenty of more noticable audio and visual flaws.
I am big ReBoot fan and I own the Box set and couldn't be happier. If you haven't bought the DVDs yet and are scared due to all the negative posts just know that it takes a keen ear and probably some over attentiveness to the background sound to find these flaws. Anybody else who just wants a good DVD quality box set of all the Reboot shows and couldn't care about what intro is on or whatever buy it and enjoy it, I know I am.
I don't see this as nit-picking at all. Other than being slightly lower quality, the difference is the C.O.P.S. set is still the correct framerate, no audio problems and has the correct intro on all the episodes. It represents the source material accurately. This isn't just a slightly lower bitrate being used as in the case of Mill Creek. It's a faulty product due to Shout being given improperly converted masters.
We can blame Rainmaker for the shoddy conversion, or Mainframe for originally producing it in PAL for the minute resolution boost and necessitating the conversion in the first place. But bottom line is, it's clearly incorrectly done. If Rainmaker had simply provided PAL DigiBeta masters, Shout could have done a proper conversion themselves. The Multimedia Chronicles and more:

Blame Rainmaker, not Mainframe. I'm good friends with the creator, and I've learned a lot over the years of how it was produced. The 25fps was to create dual compatibility for international release. It makes NO sense as to why the masters were modified. Rainmaker doesn't help anybody, so your best bet is to sit back and enjoy it as it is.

Yea but the lower quality video and audio that Mills Creek sets are known for are usually noticable. I still buy their sets as I am not that picky but I do notice the lower quality video at times. However I am not so sure how "noticable" the framerate difference is on the ReBoot box set. The video does not feel too fast or too slow while watching it. It runs just like I remember it. Probably something you wouldn't notice unless someone times it out. The intros is also something I could care less about.
As for the audio, I still don't hear it in mine. I am not playing this show any louder or quieter then any other show I play off of my PS3 through my Sony 5.1 surround sound system. I am sure there is a small minority of people that can notice some of this stuff but I am positive that the vast majority of people who watch this like they would any other show without breaking every scene down frame by frame will enjoy this release.
Maybe I am a different collector then some of you guys but for me it's about owning and having the ability to watch my favorite shows in the best quality available. I highly doubt there is a personal collection of ReBoot in someones basement or collection that look and sound as well as this set.

That was a heck of a rant and after reading it I have a new found respect for all those fansites out their and it solidifies my worries about the, possibly cancelled, ReBoot movie triology. I forget how much personal time and dedication goes into these people's personal fansites for a franchise and how some companies can just spit in the fan's face in the search of profit.

Trust me, I would love nothing more than to say the set was absolutely perfect in every detail, as I just plain love ReBoot and this has been a set I have been wanting for years. I also know how it is supposed to sound, having watched the series numerous times over so when something sounds off, it is quite noticeable.
Personally, I could totally live with the audio if all it was was a slightly lower pitch and nothing else, but when there are rapid pitch alterations during lines of dialogue it is quite distracting. Do I feel it is wrong to voice disappointment after having spent more than $80 for the set? No, I don't think so. I'm glad there are people who don't seem to be affected by this, I just wish I was one of them.

Manic, I couldn't agree more. I love this set and don't regret purchasing it. ReBoot is one of my favorite TV shows and finally having it in it's entirety is something I've waited years for, so much so that I didn't wait the extra three months for it to be formally released at a cheaper price.
The audio problems are too frequent and too distracting to ignore, especially since the previously released Season 3 and 4 DVDs didn't have these problems. When my wife, who never notices quality issues (she literally can not tell the difference between DVD and Blu-Ray on our 50" HDTV) tells me without me prompting her that the audio is bad and distracting, then there's a problem.
If these same audio problems were on any major release, the discs would be recalled. I do think a recall on these discs warrants discussion and I don't believe it's nitpicking in any way. Maybe they can fix these problems before they formally release (although I doubt they will). In fact, I feel it's only because it's the Complete ReBoot Set that I've been so lenient on the audio problems as I've been watching the discs.
Well, I decided to open up the set and take a chance. It'd kill me to send it back as I've been dying to watch this series again!
Packaging was really nice, and I really like the lenticular card that was included! A nice complete package so far.
I noticed that in the very first episode of Season 1, the voices didn't quite sound like they should. I'd say it was 97-99% close. I then noticed that on the episodes after that they sounded like I remembered them.
I finished all of Disk 1 so far and haven't noticed any of the warbling that everyone is complaining about. I'm watching the set on my Bose 3-2-1 GS Series II DVD System.
I'm planning on watching Disk 2 tomorrow, so I'll post again with my findings.
First I'll add that I'm a new member to this board, then I'll proceed to say that I just recieved my "Mainframe Edition" today.
I was a bit apprehensive after reading some of the posts herein, however I'm quite pleased with this set, the packaging is great, the visual and sound issues were undetectable (to me at least) and this got here in less than a week.
I'll admit, or at least agree, that considering the original release dates for the series and the advances made in video and audio since that point, there are certainly going to be some issues on both counts and if it's a problem with which or whose copy was used as a "Master" this may constitute the need for a "Directors Cut". Again I didn't notice problems but perhaps I'm more tolerant. I'm viewing on a 55" LED screen @ 240hz tied into a 5.1 surround system.
Incidentally, I loved this series when it first aired as did my kids (now adults), I'm sure these DVD's will get viewed a number of times over the next few months. Thanks Shout Factory.
Okay, I've watched the first 4 disks that make up Season 1 and 2.
1) Season 1, Disk 2, Episode 1 - When Captain Capacitor is introducing himself to Dot, there is a slight glitch/skip during his dialog.
2) Season 1, Disk 2, Episode 12 - When the tanks are firing at Bob and Dot while they are in the tank, I heard a minor sound glitch that really sounded like Megabyte saying "Hack".
3) Season 1, Disk 3, Episode 3,4 or 5 (cant remember) - slight static sounding glitch heard for a brief second.
I haven't started Season 3 yet, but these are the only real noticable sound glitches I've heard so far, apart from my post above about the first episode of the first season (characters voices sounding slightly different). Nothing nowhere near as bad as what I have been reading on this forum. No warbling or anything like that. It really makes me think that perhaps some people just got defective discs that could've messed up during the manufacture/copying/reproducing.
So far I've been very happy with this set. If I find any other issues, I'll post them here.
Could you check out the Gavin Blair interview on the bonus disc? That's where I actually first heard audio issues during episode clips and I certainly wasn't listening to them, they just stuck out like a sore thumb. Would you be able to confirm if they are present on your copy, as well?
While I would hope that it was merely an issue of a defective disc, I've noticed sound issues on several discs but I haven't had the opportunity to check them all.

The most noticeable place I've found is on Season 4, Episode 7 right after the commercial break at around the 13:00 mark, right when the wedding's starting and the music is very loud, it sounds almost choppy on mine.
If you notice it there, that'll give you an idea of what we've talking about. I've noticed this effect in probably every episode on the set so I doubt it's just a defective disc.
Which part did you hear them at? Give me some timestamps where you heard it so I can check. I don't plan on watching that disc in full until I've watched all 4 Seasons. I'm going to start Season 3 tonight.

No warbling or anything like that. It really makes me think that perhaps some people just got defective discs that could've messed up during the manufacture/copying/reproducing.
I watched that part you mentioned (started about at about 12:50 instead of at 13:00 like you posted, just in case) on my PC and my Bose system and I don't didn't hear that. It sounded like wedding music to me. I played that part about 20 times trying to hear it and I couldn't recognize/hear any skipping or choppiness that you are speaking of.
Maybe it's just me, but I just don't hear it. I've watched Seasons 1 & 2 so far and haven't noticed any choppiness in the audio at all. Just the glitches I posted yesterday on 3/28.

No, it's not just you. I have been posting for a while now that I don't hear it either. I am also working on Season 2 and so far I have not heard anything out of the ordinary and trust me I have been listening hard for it. I originally thought it was just me but maybe it is a disk problem with some people. I preordered my definitive box set and it came much later then most others so maybe it's something that exist in the first batch or something. Either way I have been enjoying Season one and two of Reboot without any problems on my 40 LCD with 5.1 surround sound. I recommend that people talk to the shout factory support line and see if they will trade it in for a new one.

Which part did you hear them at? Give me some timestamps where you heard it so I can check. I don't plan on watching that disc in full until I've watched all 4 Seasons. I'm going to start Season 3 tonight.

Here, to help us along, I ripped a couple segments from Null-Bot of the Bride and put them on YouTube. It's a 45-second clip, listen to the music and tell me if you can hear it or not.

If this sounds different from yours, I'll contact Shout about arranging a replacement.
So far, I watched the first season and the audio quality is quite good. I noticed minor glitches with the music in one episode or two, but nothing to be upset about.
However, it's true that the opening seems to be slower than the original one... the episodes themselves seems fine, I only noticed it during the opening. Other than that, I did not hear any "warbling" effect or other audio problems.
The picture quality is amazing too! The best I've seen for the show! Anyway, I'm really enjoying my DVD boxset!! :)
I did find some parts that sounded similar to yours, and others that sounded different. I don't really know what would cause something like that. Could be just my ears, but if other people aren't noticing it I'm not sure what to say.
I finished watching all 4 seasons. Seasons 1+2 I didn't find very much at all to complain about, other than what I posted previously. I did find however that during parts of Season 3 I REALLY noticed that warbling. Season 4 wasn't bad with a few parts here and there.
Overall, I'm pretty happy with the set. It's very watchable, but would be nice if the warbling that I did notice was corrected. I'm just surprised that Shout would've put out a set with the warbling in it. Surely they would've heard it during the process and gone back to Rainmaker about it. If the quality of the masters wasn't there, maybe the set shouldn't have been released. That might've given Rainmaker some enticement to correct the issues.
I'm still crossing my fingers that there will be replacement discs released, but I know the chances of that happening are probably pretty slim.

I don't think he was answering Jonny, I think he was expressing enthusiasm that Jonny is asking about replacement discs as his previous campaigns have a habit of coming to fruition. (Beast Wars on DVD, the complete set being released at the same time as the retail release of the first season...)
Frankly, disc replacements won't happen. Why? Even if Shout! opted to give us discs, they do not have any other source files that are correct.
Rainmaker screwed up. The masters, the proper ones, are gone. Kaput.
Teletoon Retro has a set of digital betas that they are running, but of course, these ones are really worn down. However, something happened to the master renders. I might ask Gavin next time I see him if he knows anything. "I'm a little source code, short and stout! This is my input, this is my out!"
I'll ask the obvious question here XBrav - what about YOUR DigiBeta tapes? I'm curious as to whether you have the entire series or just selected episodes? If so, would they be suitable masters for replacement transfers as I know at the very least they are the correct framerate. The Multimedia Chronicles and more:
http://www.zaranyzerak.com
I don't have masters. I have a set that I picked up once on DVD. Turns out it was a bootleg (way back when). The episodes were all in Russian too, so I had to dub it myself.
Honestly, you won't gain too much.
Also, they are only for seasons 1 and 2.
Season 3 is the only one that bothers me a bit, what with the deep voices and all. "I'm a little source code, short and stout! This is my input, this is my out!"
I can see Rainmaker fouling up on masters sent to Shout! for the DVDs but to screw up the masters is a baffling scenario. The only question which comes to mind is how could they be so incompetent? At least the show still looks good.

Rainmaker screwed up. The masters, the proper ones, are gone. Kaput.
For me, Seasons 1 and 2 were mostly alright. I did hear the occasional audio glitching that has been mentioned here, namely the anomalies that Parallax mentioned. The large amount of video aliasing in some points was also a concern. I'm sure some of it was the source material, but I just don't remember there being that much of it originally. Still, it was quite watchable.
When I started season 3 today I was in terror. To Mend and Defend is completely broken. The entire episode is playing at the wrong speed, which is made clear by the audio. Dot sounds like a tranny at some points. It's REALLY bad. The next episode was fine, however. There seemed to be a few moments of laggy playback in Firewall, but it wasn't constant. Everything else I watched (stopped at Icons) was just fine. I'm hoping the rest of the episodes will be mostly okay.
Everything else I own by Shout! is nothing but the best. They really treat these cult classic shows very well, so I'm more inclined to believe this is a case of bad masters from Rainmaker. It's really sad that the show that basically made them wasn't truly preserved. Honestly, though, I'm just happy to have the set even if it isn't 100% perfect. It's the best thing I could have asked for to come out of this "revival". I have my own opinions on that and how Rainmaker has handled it but this isn't the place for that. Anyway, that's my thoughts on it. I still recommend the release because it's the best we're probably gonna get. I think the original content is long gone or we would have gotten it here.
well tomorrow i'll be finishing up the set by watching all 4 episodes of My Two Bobs. I'm glad these were split in episodes. Reminds me of first watching them durning Toonami run. I still have the Anchorbay release and dont plan on getting rid of that and offically the Season 3 dvds as well. I'm quite impressed with the set although the tech flaws that Rainmaker could of helped smooth out if they actually cared. http://www.thegamemaster.org/
What I find odd is the frequency of which some of the audio errors occur. I've only finished Seasons 1 and 2 thus far, but, the fact is on alternating episodes on some of the discs, audio pops occur at exactly 17 minutes and 6 seconds into the episodes.
Pardon me if I'm covering details already in this thread, but, it was rather long. :) Enzo The Smart, Identity Crisis Part 1, Gigabyte, and Trust No One all have audio pops at the aforementioned time stamp. In fact, for the one on Identity Crisis Part 1, the audio pop sounds an awful lot like Megabyte saying the single word Hack.
I think it's funny how several websites are reporting that ReBoot complete and season 3/4 are out today on dvd, considering not one single brick and morter store in my are is going to carry these dvds and every single website I go to says that ReBoot is not available in store.
How did Shout! Factory drop the ball so hard on this set?! Love with your heart, use your brain for everything else. - Captain Disillusion
I pre-ordered my ReBoot Complete Series on Amazon.com and it's shipping to me. I should have my set tomorrow. Steven C. Phillips

I've also noticed some music errors. In "The Quick and the Fed" During the final battle with the White Knight in the tower, I think that the medieval theme music for the game should be playing, but instead the shows main theme starts up again.
And in "The Crimson Binome", as Dot's borrowed ship pulls up to the side of the Saucy Mare, the Pirate theme is playing, only to stop after a dialogue exchange, then start up again. It then carries on far longer than it should only stopping when Capacitor asks for Dot's surrender, at which point the Main Theme starts again, and goes through their entire marketing talk, making for a bit of a corny moment.
I can't remember if there were others, but those two stood out, probably since they were recently on Teletoon Retro, nor am I sure if these are just differences between the American and Canadian Broadcasts.
As for Audio glitches, I've noticed a few pops here and there up to where I am, the most recent being the one in "The Crimson Binome" that comes up as Capacitor is introducing himself to Dot.
Also, if there were to be a replacement program put into action, could you maybe use the masters, or whatever, that Teletoon Retro is using? They only seem to have up till the end of Season 3 but from the sound of it, they would cover most of the problems. And it would also mean that the YTV logo would be returned to the poor YTV robot in "Talent Night"
What ball is that, DekaPrime? Do I ONCE AGAIN have to explain that we don't put the product in individual stores? STORES do that. They buy from us and then sell to you. S1&2 has been out for a while now. If stores didn't sell enough, they will not reorder more or order subsequent seasons. They, too, would be losing money. Furthermore, there are several B&M stores that are carrying the sets. The big three--Best Buy, Target and Wal-Mart--are all carrying S2&3. But THEY decide which physical stores get them and at what quantity. They look at previous sales numbers and determine where similar titles sell the best, regardless of whether those conclusions are accurate. So it's not Shout! Factory's fault that your local store isn't carrying the set. We produce the DVDs, the retailer buys the product and our distributor provides them. The retailer then decides where in the country they should go.
You want S2&3? Go talk to your local store, rather than simply walking out. As a former store manager for both a Suncoast Video and an FYE, I can tell you that these actions work, as they report back to their district managers each time shows are requested. The problem is that it seems that you're walking in or checking online, seeing that it's not available and then you walk or log out. You're inadvertently validating that HQ's decision to not provide that store with copies, thinking it wouldn't sell.
ILL SHOW YOU WHAT BALL, BRAIN WARD! I'd like to re - boot you in the face, if you catch my drift (its a funny pun, or as i call it "a punny"). You go RIGHT NOW and talk to ole man Shoutfactory and demand that he talk to his Masonic Brothers at bric and mordor retail stock all seasons of reboot! It was the best show ever about robots who live in a flask or liquor being controlled by a monkey from the future (is that the plot? i have never seen it and have pieced together what it is from clues found on the back of vitamin bottles). IVE SEEN UYOUR TWITTER FEED BRAIN! I know you have SO much money you dont know what to do with it! Get off your throne of lies and stock all stores everywhere with reboot! "On the 6th day the Lord created BRAIN WARD, and on the 7th he rested, cause making BRAIN WARD was exhausting"
First off I won't go as far as Tommy bot there. I know that you can't force stores to move your product. I also know that your incorrect in thinking that the big three are putting S3&4 in stores or ever had S1&2. I still how they can deside not to sell the second set based off the sales of the first set if they never sold the first set. BBY.com will tell you flat out online that the dvd's are not in stores same with Target and Wallyworld. I do apologize for taking my frustration out on Shout but I just don't see any justification as to why I should pay more. . . and pay for shipping when I should frankly just be able to go to my local store, by the dvd's and have them home to enjoy shortly there after.
All in all I just thought it was kind of a smack in the face when I saw several websites happily announcing the dvd's being in stores. . . and they arn't
Also as for not keeping up with stores to see if I can get them to get these dvd's in please remember I work at one of these stores and I'm on my various managers to try to get ReBoot in our store at this point they just ignore me.

Here is a easy & better decision from someone who knows. Go to amazon and purchase the complete set from them. They have it on sale thats cheaper then picking it up at the stores which will possibly sell it for 60-80 bucks while right at the time i'm writing this, they have it for 44.99 with free shipping. http://www.thegamemaster.org/
I work in a Best Buy. In our store, we're carrying both Season sets AND the Mainframe Collection. Ditto my local Wal-Mart and Future Shop. Clearly they weren't selling enough in YOUR local stores to warrant stocking the rest. That's just the way it goes sometimes. No conspiracy, nobody dropping balls, just simple basic sales figures. Just because they aren't stocking them based on your suggestion doesn't mean you're being ignored. This is a business, it's not personal. It's numbers. If you were the only person requesting they carry the show, that isn't sufficient numbers. That's really all there is to it. I really don't know how much more clearly Brian can explain it... The Multimedia Chronicles and more:
http://www.zaranyzerak.com
Again, DekaPrime, just because they're not in YOUR stores doesn't mean they're not IN stores. I've personally seen them both in Targets AND Best Buys. And Zaranyzerak has just said they're being carried in his store. So they ARE available in-store.
I'm not sure how much clearer I can make this.
OK let me start with this. I'm not actualy pised at Shout! for the lack of DVD's. Frankly it's really a build up of frustration over not being able to get several things that should be readily available at retail. Take for instance that last line of Transformers figures before the movie. My area didn't get a single one, I know that the local stores had demand for them a few weeks ago I had a manager at a target snap at me to leave them alone becuase they had to many people asking for them. It's mostly the same thing with this dvd. I've had a few stores tell me they are keeping an eye out for them becuase people have asked.
Big Z, love you stuff I really do, I'm not saying you don't have ReBoot in your best buy, but I work for Best Buy in Florida. When I look at BBY.com and months before it's suposed to be released the rss system and bby.com say *DELETED* or *Not Sold In Stores* then we never got them. Target and Wal-mart. com both say "Not sold in stores" or some variation online. I'm talking about the first set, stated as deleted or not sold in stores the same day the preorder went up on their websites. Heck I got the "online only sku" for season 1/2 on my website before we even had artwork. This is why I snaped up Beast Wars season 1 and the Headmasters ASAP becuase I don't know if we'll get the rest despite the fact that I really want the series boxes to have next to my G1 complete set. (Still hoping that at some point down the line say 6 months or so after the set hits retail you guys might sell the box like you did with the G1 set)
You guy have it and can get it. It's available in your area. Great more power to you, love it.
It is not nor was it ever in my area and I will not go online to get it. End Of Line
I shouldn't have to go online to get it. You guys can show me sales and free shipping and the lot, I want to be able to support my local stores. And before you go crying that I only want it in store to get my discount, I would snap this set up in a second no matter what store I saw it in. . . as long as it was IN a store.
I really think this is as far as this argument can go. I'm sorry I couldn't convay the direction of my frustration and took some of it out on you Mr. Ward. I'm just a guy who wants to give your company my money. Love with your heart, use your brain for everything else. - Captain Disillusion
I understand your frustration. Unfortunately, it's the sad state of home entertainment retail presently. As an employee of Best Buy, you have to have noticed the increasingly shrinking DVD and Blu-ray section in your store. Where there was once so much product on shelves that most titles were facing spine-out on the shelves, I can now go into a store and see nothing but product face-out. When every title is facing out, there isn't much of a selection there. But retailers are pushing the business more toward their e-retail sites. Best Buy would rather you buy from their site than from their stores. It's a sad statement of fact. It's simply more cost-effective for them to keep 2,000 copies in a handful of shipping hubs around the country than it is to run thousands of stores. Hence, the smaller sections and the shrinking number of brick 'n' mortar stores.
As someone who's shopped both online and in brick-&-mortar stores (for books, CDs, DVDs, etc.) I can attest to the fact that Best Buy's in-store stock has been shrinking a lot over the last few years. Too often, when I can't find something that I'm really looking for there or anywhere else, I order on-line almost as soon as I get home. The current trend of going totally online, or even worse, getting everything 'electronically' is kinda depressing, to say the least.
which unfortunately leads more and more to someone like myself being unnecessary. My boss keeps asking if I want a career in Best Buy and though I love the job and at time I love the people (I'm lucky to live in an area with more good customers then bad in any given day) I can't see my job existing in 5 years. Love with your heart, use your brain for everything else. - Captain Disillusion
The problem with this is that when mistakes are made, and they are most assuredly made, it's much, MUCH harder to correct them. Just in the past few months, I've had the following problems shopping online at various stores:
1: Things missing from my orders
2: Orders with the wrong items
3: Orders with defective products
4: Orders sent to the wrong address
The first two are avoidable if I'm picking them up in the stores myself, and are painfully difficult to resolve when shopping online. If I'm missing something I just go get it, and if I got the wrong thing, I just go and replace it. A defective product costs me a lot more to replace if I have to ship it back, and some places have charged me for shipping a replacement, if it was available to be replaced. In one case, a replacement wasn't available and in another case it was available and never arrived. in neither of those cases have I gotten a refund yet. Finally, my order that was sent to the wrong address took led to a long series of phone calls that resulted in them sending a replacement to the same address that was wrong in the first place, and I never did get what I paid for or a refund. I'm still fighting with them over this, even though they no longer have some of what I ordered.
Admittedly, not all of these are from sites tied to brick & mortar stores in my area, but many of them are. Some of them, don't even have phone numbers to call for support, just web forms or email addresses. I'm out a nice chunk of change on these orders and I can't get these issues resolved.
I agree that it's unfortunate that shopping is heading in this direction. The fact that shoppers can't do anything about it only makes it harder. It also means that people who don't know about the existence of a product, like Shout's DVD titles, aren't going to get them, even if they'd be interested in doing so. I wouldn't have known about or purchased the ReBoot sets if I hadn't come here looking for information about the Transformers G1 sets. They're not in stores here, and neither are many other titles you've put out.
I wish I had some ideas on what could be done to fix these problems, because they can hurt the companies who make some very good products, they can hurt the consumers who will eventually end up with only one very uncertain way of buying anything, and the retailers are the only ones who benefit.
In any case, I hope it doesn't hurt Shout too much. You've put out some great sets, and I look forward to seeing what you'll do in the future.

It's interesting that Brian answers all other issues such as licensing, sale, distribution, etc... but has been COMPLETELY silent about the quality issue - not a word. Even though Shout may not be able to do anything about that issue it still would have shown some respect to all the customers that purchased this product - especially for the fact that Reboot fans are so intensely loyal to the series. I'm very disappointed at the lack of any concern whatsoever.
As an aside, i was hoping that maybe Shout had silently corrected the problem so i recently purchased another copy of the Definitive Mainframe edition to find out -- and of course, there's no improvement.
I'm also fairly disappointed in this set. Granted, I only paid about $25 for it on Amazon.ca, so I'm not going to try to return it or anything. $25 for all of Reboot, even if it is defective, isn't too bad a deal all things considered.
I do have to say this is probably the last thing I'll be buying from Shout Factory, though. I'm sure a good deal of the fault also lies with Rainmaker, but Shout Factory could've tried to get better transfers from them. It's their responsibility to their customers to provide a good-quality product, and they clearly didn't push Rainmaker hard enough in order to be able to do that.
The decision to make this show in PAL from the start was probably a mistake, slightly higher resolution or not. NTSC-PAL conversion is a pain in the ass (though it certainly should be doable by Raimaker, supposedly a professional company). Such things should no longer matter in the HD era, and all displays now should be made intercompatible; but sadly the multiple video standards of the past, which were a bane of consumers then, continue to be a bane of consumers today when there's no longer any excuse for it.
Mainframe (may she rest in peace) was apparently able to do proper conversions to NTSC back in the 90s, though; I remember watching Reboot on YTV back in teh day. So why on Earth did Rainmaker drop the ball so badly here? It isn't that hard. The audio warble isn't quite omnipresent, but there are parts of each and every episode in which it's incredible noticeable... particularly on certain voices, and in ALL sustained instances of background music. A computer animated show like Reboot should be among the very easiest of things to convert for DVD; yet ironically, Reboot's transfer is among the most flawed of any cartoon series in recent history. 70 year-old Disney shorts have been transferred more faithfully than this.
I sincerely hope Shout Factory has plans to rectify this eventually. It doesn't need to be instantaneous, but these issues need to be resolved. This set is far from definitive.
I bought this on Amazon.ca as well, not knowing about the "warbling". I thought I was going crazy at first but I'm glad to know it's not just me.
I've watched through the entire series and it's noticable all the way through, and to be honest, I think blame falls equally on both Rainmaker AND Shout Factory.
Rainmaker for delivering crappy quality and Shout Factory for releasing it. I find it hard to believe SF didn't know about the problem before they released it.
This is the equivalent of a cock slap to the face. Very, very insulting that Rainmaker would deliver this shoddy quality and that SF would release it.
Not impressed guys. Not at all. I very much doubt you'll be getting my money again.
