Eve Arden's Our Miss Brooks Needs To Be Released On DVD
According to other sources, Eve Arden's later series "The Mothers In Law" is being released soon on DVD.  It is a shame that Our Miss Brooks has not currently been released.  Many people don't remember this show, but if you mention it stars the woman who played the principal in the movie Grease, eyes light up.  Anyone who has seen I Love Lucy and then watches an episode of Our Miss Brooks agrees with me that Miss Brooks is a far superior show.  Miss Brooks relys more on sharp funny dialogue rather than slapstick.  With a great cast including Gale Gordon and Richard Crenna, I would hope that Shout Factory would release this series on DVD.  It would be nice to see this show back and stand up with the true classics of the 1950s: I Love Lucy, The Honeymooners, Ozzie & Harriet, Burns & Allen, You Bet Your Life.

U would be interested in this show, she was always the sharp witted dame in many classic films. The show has been referenced by many but I've never ever seen it. I would do a blind buy on the show for sure.

I've never seen Our Miss Brooks ever.  I know Eve Arden from The Mothers-in-Law.  It would be interesting to see this series that I don't think was ever syndicated.

I love "Our Miss Brooks" as much as the next guy, but it's not true that "I Love Lucy" fans would all agree that "Our Miss Brooks" was the better show.

And it was syndicated.  In my town, it was on late afternoons.  I used to watch it when I got home from school.  But I don't think it was seen much after the 1960's.

RE: Eve Arden's Our Miss Brooks Needs To Be Released On DVD

I have an old VHS tape from the '90s when (I believe it was) Family Channel aired a couple episodes of this, Gidget, Room 222 and Square Pegs on New Year's Eve 1996.

Our Miss Brooks turned out to be much better than I expected. I can remember thinking as I watched that the type of humor was very verbal and observational, sort of proto-Seinfeld-type, actually.

Love for this show to get a release! Eve Arden was great in everything I've seen her in...Maude, Bewitched, Grease, and The Mothers-in-Law.

I think this would be a blind buy for me, too.  Sounds like the kind of comedy I like, and it has all t hat 1950s charm going for it.

The show is owned by CBS/Paramount. One, they don't license out their shows and two, the show has never been transferred to tape in any format so it only exists on film. Not going to happen.

I'm not so sure it's "not going to happen".  CBS/Paramount has done very well with the first two seasons of THE LUCY SHOW and surely the industry is taking notice of the surprise phenomenal sales of THE MOTHERS-IN-LAW which is not only currently the #1 selling comedy series boxed set (outselling current shows!) and #1 selling comedy boxed set (including movies!) but it has been in the top 50 best-selling DVDs at Amazon of any kind - including current movies, the only vintage show on their top 100 chart! I really hope this spurs a long overdue OUR MISS BROOKS set!

Re OMB reruns, I remembering seeing them during the early 1980's I believe they were on a PBS channel with another show (SGT BILKO I think, ironic given it has been released on DVD the same day as TMIL though not as big a hit on Amazon).  There's also one or two budget public domain vintage tv collections with a few episodes of OMB on them.

That's great to hear that The Mother's in Law is a hot property- I did purchase the collection and waiting for it to arrive. I hope this really get's the CBS/Paramount/Sony marketing in gear to release collections of the classics- Like OMB and Burns and Allen- There is a need and want for the classics!

If it were to be transferred to high-def then CBS could market it in syndication. It was last on TV full time in the 1970s. It is a great series (one of the highest rated sitcoms of the 1950s). Arden at one point had films of all the episodes as well. This would probably need to be a multi-season release or a best of release. People will buy it because of her connection to the movie Grease. She played the principle solely because of Our Miss Brooks.
