Mores seasons of California Dreams, Ironside, Mr. Belvedere, My Two Dads, Room 222, Simon & Simon, and Small Wonder.
And perhaps some unfinished series, such as All in the Family, Charlie's Angels, The Jeffersons, or maybe Diff'rent Strokes to honor the late Gary Coleman.
Please try to gain the rights to the shows that Sony FAILED to complete on DVD, and release some of them as exclusives!

Picking up new titles only to give them a limited release right off the bat seems odd unless they can get the rights really cheap. |

Why can't the Select titles be made available through Amazon and avoid the $28(OUCH!) shipping fee. In the case of Father Knows Best Season Five, It will cost over $80 to order it from your website. Add in the duty and exchange rate and it will be close to $100. The first four seasons cost that much in total.
Looks like I wont be completing this collection anytime soon. |

Member since: 7/22/2010 | | RE: Shout! Select titles | Just wanted to say Shout Factory! is easily the best DVD distribution company going today! It's nice to know that they recognize there is demand for all kinds of classic shows -- and that they don't leave fans high and dry midway through a season set. I just got the recent Dragnet 1968 set and it's great as always. The pilot movie is an excellent touch and was incredibly fun to watch! I'm also looking forward to All in the Family - Season 7 in September after several years of Sony sitting on the rights to it.
My top three wishes right now:
Dream On - The HBO series, Seasons 3-6
Mama's Family - Seasons 2 (the syndicated versions or not, doesn't matter to me, will just be nice to have them in DVD quality) and the remaining syndicated seasons 3-6.
Swan's Crossing -- A long shot I know, as it was only on TV for three months (65 episodes I believe) in 1992 in syndication, but it's garnered quite a reputation over the years and also gave both Mira Sorvino and Sarah Michelle Gellar their starts in the industry. It has quite the following online. |

We need more Adam 12. We need more Simon & Simon. We need more The Paper Chase. We need more Room 222. We need more My Two Dads. We need more animated titles like Jayce & Medabots. Of the titles he mentioned, the only one I'm interested in is "Mr. Belvedere". I just got season 4, and have plans to get seasons 1-3 in the near future. I didn't get them earlier, because I had other commitments in my life that I wanted to focus on. I will also get seasons 5 and 6 when they come out.
And to all the so-called fans of Belvedere, who are using the economy as an excuse not to buy the sets, please don't. You are only doing this to not only deprive yourselves of the big guy, but also to deprive us of seasons 5 and 6, nothing more. |

And most of the titles you've mentioned haven't sold well enough to get any more releases because they've, in fact, lost money.
I find it interesting that you'd rather us not pick up additional titles that have proven to be good sellers or have the potential to be good sellers in lieu of finishing titles that have proven to NOT be good sellers.

And I agree with him on that. I'll admit that I didn't get seasons 1-3 of "Mr. Belvedere" when I should have, but I'm making up for that mistake now, and I WILL have my credit card ready for seasons 5 and 6 when they come out.
Finally, you hinted in another thread that "Mr. Belvedere" wasn't being completely abandoned. Don't contradict yourself, Brian. |

Member since: 1/12/2007 | | RE: Shout! Select titles | I'm not contradicting myself at all. Per my previous post, I said "most" of the titles he mentioned haven't sold well.
Regardless, when the fans have abandoned the DVDs, we have no choice but to do the same. We cannot spend money on something that doesn't make money just to fulfill the collections of a handful of fans. We love the shows. There's a reason why we picked them up. But we can't stay in business AND throw money at projects that don't make money. It can't work that way.
So we acquire other titles that DO sell or at least have a high potential sales. Fans should be grateful for this, because by making money with other titles, there comes the possibility of being able to release other titles that don't make nearly as much. Kinda like when a big Hollywood star makes a giant summer blockbuster and follows it up with a personal indie movie. We can afford to be a little more frivolous, when our other titles are making money. That means acquiring more.

Member since: 9/21/2007 | | RE: Shout! Select titles | I'm sorry but I have to step in and get Brian's back. He's a true classic tv fan and has done much more for us tv fans than any other studio out there. Sony, Warner, Universal...they've all abandoned shows after only a single season. I'd say Shout has given many shows more than their fair chance at redeeming themselves on dvd. "Father Knows Best: Season 5" was just released through Shout! Select and you should have heard the moaning going on over the price tag. Shout! Select is an exclusive deal for us fans. The price is what it is to support that exclusive product. Otherwise, we would get nothing. You would still be waiting around if Sony had even attempted to release Season 1.
I, for one, have picked up each and every title of interest and subsequent seasons on the day of release or pre-ordered. So I've always supported titles that I was interested in. If you can't do that, don't blame Shout or Brian for not driving to your house and hand delivering a free dvd-set. It is up to you to buy it. That's how it works. If not enough people buy it, then of course, they will think before releasing an additional season. Would you want to take your money and throw it away with nothing to show for it. Be honest.
I want Shout to continue giving us such high-quality dvds of our favorite shows. No one else is doing it. And ya ain't gonna get it from other studios. So give the boys (and girls) at Shout some credit. That's all. |

Member since: 1/12/2007 | | RE: Shout! Select titles | Zaxxar, Punky Brewster was slightly different. That was a case where a studio only agreed to license us the first two seasons. Once those sold--and sold well--we started negotiating for the additional seasons. So there was a little time in between releases, but only because we still had to acquire the remainder of the seasons. This is fairly common. In fact, there may be shows that you're waiting on right now that we're in the process of acquiring additional seasons for, but because those negotiations are ongoing, I can't reveal them.
Still, there have been other titles where we've waited to score a hit before releasing them. One good example, for instance, could be Ironside. This is a series we love and enjoy releasing them. They sell, but not well enough to make them no-brainers for further releases. But when we had hits with, say, Transformers and G.I. Joe last year, it opened up an opportunity to spend a little bit on titles that we love but aren't expecting gigantic hits with. We can continue to do that, as we are with the upcoming Ironside S4 set, until it starts getting too cost prohibitive again. But this requires acquiring additional titles from studios that become slamdunk successes for us. The more success we have with titles like Transformers and G.I. Joe, the more we can afford to take risks on our passion projects.
Fingers crossed! Hope that makes sense!
TheDude7, the good news is that people can purchase our Shout! Factory Select titles on Amazon and usually on eBay, too. So that makes it a little more convenient for fans!

Member since: 7/5/2007 | | RE: Shout! Select titles | Although I don't agree with everything "Yeah OK" is saying, I understand where he is coming from. As a fan, I want to be able to collect all seasons of the shows in my collection that I want to own. It's frustrating when all seasons are not released. When the company releasing the shows seems to start releasing other shows and "forgetting" about the "abadoned" shows its frustrating to say the least. However, from a business perspective it makes perfect sense to not release something that doesn't sell. No logical and rational person can expect a company to continually release products that don't sell. Said company would not stay in business long, and no sets of any show would be released by that company.
What Brian said is encouraging. If Shout! does well on better selling shows, they will be willing to "spend frivolously" on lesser selling shows. I think it's pretty obvious this already happenned with shows like COPS, The Bill Cosby Show, Bump In The Night and Sawmp Thing. Some of those shows sat years in limbo between their next releases. What other company besides Shout! would go out of their way and try something new to get them out?
The only shows I'm concerned about now are Mr Belvedere, My Two Dads and Small Wonder. Mr Belvedere is the Shout! title I am most interested in seeing completed. If there is any way to release the final two seasons I know Shout! Factory will find a way. There's obviously fan interest (however small it may be ) and hopefully Shout! "loves" it enough to complete it. With only one more season of My Two Dads, I'm hoping that's another show to be finished off. Keep up the good work Shout!
Please bring "Starman" the 1986-87 tv series, Silver Spoons seasons 2 & beyond and Jennifer Slept Here to DVD. |

For example, releasing Rhoda (70s sitcom), Parker Lewis (90s sitcom), and C.O.P.S. (80s cartoon) on the same day. |

Generally, it takes us the same amount of time to produce the Shout! Select titles as it does any other box set. The first couple of waves that were released were produced with the knowledge that we'd be releasing a bunch of titles directly to the consumers, so we produced them and banked them. Now, they're rolled into our regular production schedules. So while I'm producing Greek and Dark Skies and the various Marvel titles, I'm also producing a set or two for Shout! Factory Select. That's really all there is to it. It's just about time; not so much about a lack of interest, etc.
