I think a real Corman complaint should be announcing a street date Attack of the Crab Monsters/Not of this Earth without owning a decent transfer of Not of this Earth. The announcement was poorly mishandled.

Someone sounds bitter. : )
On the other hand, I kind of agree. No company should announce anything until they've got all they're eggs in one basket.

Member since: 1/12/2007 | | RE: CORMAN COMPLAINT | The thing is, every company announces stuff they don't officially have, but expect to. Look at a lot of the announcements over on any DVD review website. The information on upcoming titles? Odds are, if they're more than two or three months away from release...they may not have it. That's because we're constantly doing our research and tracking stuff down. In this particular case, we were told this print existed in a specific location. We were promised. And when we went to collect it... it wasn't there.
Look, I can tell you that no one is working harder or is more on top of the Corman movies than Cliff Macmillan. If he tells you we're going to have something, odds are far greater that we will than not. This was a fluke. But, due to retail pressure and a constant barrage of requests from various DVD news sites, announcing titles with stuff we may or may not have is common practice. Always has been. Sometimes it bites you.
At least we held out for that perfect print to show up and didn't simply chuck something out for the sake of keeping a street date.

Imagine how youd feel if Galaxy of Terror was suddenly axed due to some rights issue..or any movie you would like to have that gets pulled off the street date
@ Brian - It's not the first time something I wanted was pushed back even after announcements of releases
Image was supposed to release Navy vs the Night Monsters and it never happened
The thing is street dates should not be officially announced until its 100% firm and definite. Not of this Earth was announced for a street date of 7/20 but had no transfer ready
Its kind of like going somewhere to film a movie without any script..

Member since: 3/25/2010 | | RE: CORMAN COMPLAINT | I have to agree with dsman71 concerning the announced street date of Not Of This Earth and Attack Of The Crab Monsters. A street date shouldn't really be announced unless you absolutely know you can meet that date with the desired product. And, I also concede to Brian's points about the acquistion of titles. I have been duly schooled, and will admit it freely. By the way, any street date yet for GAMERA VS. JIGER? |

Member since: 1/24/2008 | | RE: CORMAN COMPLAINT | Thats a long way to go down the line for Jiger
First Barugon is in July..then Gaos , Viras , Guiron, Jiger and Zigra
I cant see them all coming out this year although it might be close..but this will spill until 2011 - which is when I see Jiger coming out

Member since: 1/12/2007 | | RE: CORMAN COMPLAINT | As a consumer myself, I've been burned before. So I don't have to imagine how it feels. I mean, there was a street date announced for a Scrooged special edition three Christmases ago. And they didn't even have the decency to announce that it wasn't coming out. It just didn't. And then, suddenly, the Amazon page was gone. So, believe me, I get it. And it's not like we don't have the license to the title. We weren't given the print we were promised. There's a big difference.
As for Jiger... I've learned my lesson. No announcements of upcoming dates 'til the DVDs are in the can...even though I have one.
