The three shows that Shout Factory needs to release on DVD by the end of 2008!

I'd really love to see the final installments of C.O.P.S. finally released, but I'd also love to see Shout Factory release these other two classic 80's toons to DVD as well;

M.A.S.K.

Jayce & the Wheeled Warriors

If the Super Mario Bros., Captain N, The Littles, Dungeon & Dragons, Rambo the Animated Series, among other lesser known but still quality 80's toons can see the light of day why can't these three classic 80's properties get released.

Especially C.O.P.S., which if Shout Factory had released as two volume sets (ala Ghostbusters, Defenders of the Earth, New Adventures of He Man) instead of three in my opinion C.O.P.S. would have been successful. I own them all but I know a lot of collectors (aprox 150) felt that Shout Factory was being greedy trying to milk three sets out of this great show. In my opinion if Shout Factory were to go back & release C.O.P.S. as 2 box sets it would do far better just from the fans I've talked to. Or if it were possible release the remaining two sets as online exclusives tht way they were only making X number of sets that were purchased & not have to worry about over printing!

Shout cant get the rights to MASK regardless if DIC made the toon, there are other owners of the rights, read the post i started months back on this forum about bringing MASK to dvd, the only way i got it was buying a nice bootleg set of all the episodes

Shout Factory might not be able to get them for an unkown reason or it's due to the fact that DIC is shopping them around to another studio. I've enjoyed SF's releases but lately they have gotten very sloppy, & I've begun to loose faith that they will ever produce another set I'd be interested in or with out glitches. Which is a shame because when they startd doing box sets I felt they were better than most studios & I own every set they made for the TV shows I enjoy. As for M.A.S.K. I own the Region 4 Australian releases (2 Box Sets) & they are superb, however when a Region 1 studio releases a title I always support them buy re-buying the Region 1 release. As was the case of Voltron, Defenders of the Earth, Flash Gordon, etc. & I re-sell my other region releases!

Here is what Brian Ward the producer for Shout posted about 2 months ago concerning the rights to MASK......"Okay, it's officially not going to happen. Someone else has the rights to domestic distribution, but aren't moving on it, and it wouldn't be cost effective to try to wrangle it away from them."

Sorry, guys!

trust,

Can you tell me about the MASK bootleg set? Did u watch it all? Is it complete? I find it hard to believe that it has all 75 episodes in its entirety and some extras like you said before like MASK comercials, and yet fit in just 6 single side DVDs. Please let me know. I'm intrested in getting it if it really has all this. Thanks.

yeah its complete with one very minor exception.....out of all 75 episodes there are 2 episodes were the picture and the audio are running at different times, its very odd to watch it that way, but other than that its ok.....the quality is 7/10 , yes some episodes are better than others but thats to be expected its bootleg, the extras are cool. Is it worth $20? yes of course it is,  there are roughly 12-13 episodes per disc. I would didnt mind it wasnt dvd quality, i dont want you to get the idea that it is dvd quality! but 90% or more is very decent. I think right now the only way you'd get it is if you had a region free player and dropped about $120 for the total set from australia. hope that helps

Trust,

I'm very torn between your version and the one thats on Ebay right now.  Apparently there was a Region 1 US/Canada release of MASK this year by Vortex Films. It comes in two sets...Collection 1 and Collection 2.  I can't find this set at any store or any other web site, and I can't get any info about Vortex Films except on Amazon. Some reviewers there say the company is a joke and the company name is a play on words from some association with some kind of spinof show of M.A.S.K.. The reviwers on Amazon also say that the quality isn't that good and the sound and picture don't sync very well - like watching Japanese people talk in a Godzila movie and that the sound quality is grainy/staticy.  They say its because they think the company just produced this off the Austraila version which is PAL Region 4 and converted it to Region 1 NTSC. The selling price on ebay is like 35.00 each plus 12.00 for shipping for both. I don't know if I should pay the 82.00 bucks for an offical version that has no bonus extras and some say has quality issues or your bootleg version you found that has some bonus extras and has a 7/10 quality. What do you think? And any more details you can give me of your version would be very appreciative, like telling me exactly what bonus features it has other than M.A.S.K. toy comercials. Thanks so much!

Well i have seen online all these versions you are talking about .....one from Vortex...., the reason you cant find it in any store is because its a bootleg....aka its still just as illegal as the version i have, its just obviously got better packaging, probally cheap disc art too as well.....i only ever saw vol 1 of that, the people who made those are not the owners obviously, the austalian releases yeah i saw those two, but with the prices i saw for each boxset which was close to $60 a peice i wasnt going to pay $120 for a cartoon, thats why i opted to buy the set i got, as far as the extras there mask toy comercials, foreign and domestic, foriegn intros, stuff like that, i mean nothing that would blow ur socks off, but the dvd have good menu screeens, especailly disc 1 and dsic one has the mask theme tune playing on it too, but not on the other dvds

While I'm not condoning the discussion of where to purchase your bootlegs, might I point out that your last statement, Trust, fits my point exactly...

"...I wasn't going to pay $120 for a cartoon..."

It's statements like this one that prevents us from releasing 65-episode series in one volume.  People just aren't willing to pay what it takes to get a complete animated series.  Not enough of them, anyway.

Trust and Brian,

I am so sorry to have been discussing bootlegs on your thread.  Beleieve me, I did not want to promote it. I thought I was just asking Trust about a legeitement DVD.  I had no idea that the Vortex Films MASK set was a bootleg, because the packaging looked professional and was not only on Ebay, but was briefly on Amazon, which I thought Amazon only sells legitmit DVD's.  I just wanted Trust's opinion on it and if he's heard of this version.  I was just very puzzled that an offical MASK DVD set had some poor reviews on Amazon about its quality.  Believe me, I promise I will never do this again. Again, I'm really sorry and appreciate you Brian for giving us a forum to talk about our favorite shows...by the way, I really appreciate what you said on the other thread about looking into the possiility of releasing a Mr. Belevedere DVD. I've been going to Suncoast and FYE for over 2 years now asking them if it would ever be released. Thanks again.

Hahaha, well Brian you are right, but seriously who would pay $120 for a cartoon, one that only had 75 episodes....something like he-man, thundercats, something like that yeah, cause they were around 130 episodes, in the long run $120 would be cheaper, but yeah brian you do make the point.....for example for $120 would i pay that for the last 40 some episodes of COPS....not for $120, but i would for $90 and thats the truth.....i look at it like this say hypothetically Shout put out all 75 episodes of MASK....so thats 3 vols right....$25-30 a peice thats still less than a $100 in the long run, thats why i wouldnt pay $120 for a sketchy bootleg.....there are some things i would pay a lot for, but when its concerning a bootleg no. If the toon in question was professional produced by Shout or whoever else that changes it a lot.
