Music question: any updates???

Does anyone know if shows that are currently are in production are making contract arrangements regarding music used in their programs for future releases of shows on DVD??

We often read that music rights are what is holding up various series from being released and I just wondered with this being an issue, was it being addressed in new shows in production.

RE: Music question: any updates???
Good question.  The answer, sadly, is both "yes" and "no."

The third season of Friday Night Lights, for example, came to DVD with music replaced.  This was a particular outrage to myself, given the nature of my job.

But, I'd say that most show music supervisors are looking ahead to home video in some capacity.  Still, if they end up licensing the show to a third party, like us, we're usually having to clear the music.
