It was great for the fans to watch on saturday supercade when the show was present. They've only made 19 episodes.Besides, Nintendo based cartoons never get old. I think shout should go for it.And as a bonus, they should revitalize the latter series, Donkey Kong Jr, as a big combo set onto DVD.
Anyone agree?
Any objections? |

Member since: 1/20/2007 | | RE: Shout's next dvd project... | Last time I heard, Brian was trying to see if he was going to get the Saturday Supercade since it was made by Ruby Spears (who also did the Megaman cartoon), as far as I know it was only aired once on CBS in the US. I've watched an episode of Donkey Kong and it wasn't too bad, Donkey Kong Jr. is a bit like Scrappy Doo (Monkey Muscle instead of Puppy Power). Yoshi, if there's a site to watch these on it's called Platipus Comix but I forgot the exact page. I also heard that the Saturday Supercade cannot be aired on its original form due to copyright of the different shows (Donkey Kong - Nintendo, Frogger - Konami, Qbert (who ever owns him now, Atari?), Pitfall - Activision, Kangaroo (company went bust years ago)).
As for DKC, season 1 is owned by someone else and last time Brian didn't felt right to release the 2nd Season first so it depends on if they (the other company) want to give up rights. It's too bad, cause I only have the 1st 4 episodes on the UK DVD (plus some recorded on tape 6 years ago) |

Now why did I dream about typing this in? |

Member since: 6/4/2007 | | RE: Shout's next dvd project... | I would do some extensive research to find out who owns the first season of the 83' dk series. After all, it is a mystery. Brian should just release season 2 anyways despite lacking season 1, because theres no other reason for holding out on the season 2 release when its in his hands. But we should assemble a strike team.....I MEAN.... research team to track down all studios who might own partial rights to the dk series. Donkey Kong needs banannas faithful fans, we are his only hope. lol. That was cheesy, but you get my point.
Season 1 is out there somehwere and we'll find it!! |

And when you think Hanna-Barbera, Warner Brothers comes to mind. After all, THEY're the ones who will release Pac-Man, after all. |

I've rarely seen episodes of this show, In fact I've only seen one full episode, that's pretty much it. Saturday Supercade is a must have to be released on DVD and I would definatly buy it. |

Member since: 6/4/2007 | | RE: Shout's next dvd project... | Maybe saturday supercade will find its way onto DVD someday, but I'm curious about the 83' donkey kong series. I just recently emailed warner bros to see if they had the rights to season 1 in addition to saturday supercade, and unfortunately, I havent gotten a reply yet. As soon as I hear anything,i'll let you guys know. My guess is that they do have saturday supercade if there obviously working on pac-man. As for donkey kong, it would be weird to see 2 different companies releasing different seasons of the same show. |

WB is planning on releasing Pac-man Animated in late 2007 / Early 2008. No Word on DK or DK Jr yet . |

It is Currently owned By Warner Bros. It ran for two seasons on CBS beginning in 1983. Each episode was comprised of several shorter segments featuring video game characters from the Golden Age of Arcade Games. Presumably due to licensing issues with the various companies that licensed their games for the show, Saturday Supercade has never been officially released on VHS or DVD. However, segments from the show occasionally appear as filler on Boomerang. |

Its just like He-man its a sure seller, it would certainly sell better than Mario, Sonic, or other nintendo related cartoons, but dont get me wrong like my nintendo cartoons, i own all the mario super show, and mario 3, zelda, captain n, sonic(although thats the only sonic cartoon i like), i own COPS, but the fan base for that stuff i think it is safe to say is smaller, i love my nintendo cartoons, with the exception of mario super show, i watched it as a kid, and i own both dvd vols. , but it was actually kinda hard getting through them, i find Super Show (not mario 3) a bit corny, and purile but thats just me, i like everything else from Shout, but I'm just saying if we cant get a classic like MASK, at least try and get GI Joe, cause that was one of the most if not the most defining toons of the 80's, that MASK, he-man, D&D, Ducktales, Silverhawks, Bravestar, Thundercats |

Qbert (who ever owns him now, Atari?)
Qbert is owned by Gottleib, but the Qbert cartoon is owned by Columbia Tristar/Sony. I'd love to see any part of Saturday Supercade on DVD. Being able to watch all these cartoons from the 80's and eraly 90's again is fantastic.
