Godzilla question
What with that "other" DVD company who released all the Godzilla movies in special editions having dropped the ball and completely missing "Godzilla vs. Megalon," have you considered going after that title for a special edition.  All there seems to be out there are crappy VHS copies.  We're all pretty excited about what you're doing with Gamera so it popped into my head that you might consider persuing this.  Any thoughts?

RE: Godzilla question
That would be cool if Shout could get the rights to release a NON MST3K version of Godzilla vs Megalon the uncut international version !
Toho owns Godzilla - 'nuff said - so let's hope B Ward gives this thread some thoughts - Id like to know if SF could approach Toho about this

RE: Godzilla question
I would totally buy the unMSTed version of GvM. Actually, I'd buy any new copy of Godzilla films. They are classic!

I know!  I can't understand how this movie got skipped by that "other company."  There's all these great Godzilla DVD's out there now, but why not this one?

RE: Godzilla question

No one really knows (except for Toho), hopefully the rights issue can get untangled sooner rather than later.  Goodtimes went under in 2005, and although we can't be absolutely certain,  I wouldn't think the contract length would go on for too much longer (unless Toho gave them some incredible deal).  Goodtimes focused primarily on bargain priced releases (EP mode VHS, etc.) especially with their licensed content.

Return of Godzilla (aka Godzilla 1985) is in a similar rights tangle, so it hasn't had a DVD release either.   Godzilla vs. Biollante has yet to receive a DVD release -- the rights are currently with Miramax.  There was a VHS release of GvB years ago (and a laserdisc), but unfortunately nothing since the bout of VHS (and select DVDs) that accompanied the 1998 Sony movie.

I had heard that "the other company" was offered MEGALON by Toho, but passed because they thought the market had been polluted by bootlegs.  Plus, it's regarded as a pretty awful film.  I would gladly lay down my $$ for a decent DVD, though.

RE: Godzilla question
I am glad I kept my trusty old LaserDisc import on "Godzilla vs Megalon".
It is Widescreen TohoScope but is Japanese audio only. I would love to have
a proper US release too!  Even when this shows up in Japan on Blu Ray, it
will only have the Japanese soundtrack (as all that have come before).
Toho dictates this. I was tempted to pick up the BR of "War of the Gargantuas",
but alas Japanese language only.  : (

RE: Godzilla question

Unfortunately for North American fans, TOHO does not include subtitles with their releases in Japan.

There's still hope though, since Legendary Pictures has licensed Godzilla and is currently working on a new movie (set for a 2012 release right now).  Chances are good that we'll get to see some Blu-Ray releases around that time since Sony & Classic Media will want to take advantage of Warner's promotion for the new movie.

Tennessee Tuxedo and his Tales: The Complete Collection
MoreTennessee, a wise-cracking penguin, and his dimwitted pal Chumley resided in the Megalopolis Zoo, where they were constantly scheming against zookeeper Stanley Livingston and his assistant Flunky in an attempt to raise the quality of zoo life.
