Mary Martin in Peter Pan
Who didn't love Mary Martin in her broadway triumph as Peter Pan? The Goodtimes DVD of the 1960 color videotape version of this perennial NBC TV favorite is long out of print and awfully expensive on the aftermarket (see the prices at Amazon!) - - any chance Shout Factory could get the license to reissue it - - perhaps with the live mid 50's kinescope version included?

That would be a great idea.  I remember watching it as a kid.  It was a favorite of mine

"God chose those whom the world considers absurd to shame the wise; he singled out the weak of the world to shame the strong. He chose the world's lowborn and despised, those who count for nothing, to reduce to nothing those who were something." (1 Cor. 1: 27,28)

It was done live twice, in March of 1955 and January of 1956.

I read on another forum on the Internet, several months ago, that a company will be releasing on DVD several musicals done on television in the 1950s, and the two "Peter Pan" kinescopes and the 1960 videotape version were on the list of possibilities.

RE: Mary Martin in Peter Pan
There is a company that releases classic TV on DVD. They are sort of in the collector's market and not main stream. They have both the 1955 black and white version and the final 1960 version done in color.

Peter Pan was done live 5 years in a row NBC. The first and last survive.

I personally would love to see a collection of all of Mary Martin's live TV work. She did some amazing musicals and spectaculars that have never been available. Other then Peter Pan, the only other release has been clips from the Ford 50th Anniversary Special.

Since her son, Larry Hagman, is still alive, this could be a great release than he can help promote.

RE: Mary Martin in Peter Pan
"Peter Pan" was only done live on NBC on March 7, 1955 and January 9, 1956.  In 1960, a color tape was made and premiered on December 8, 1960.  It was repeated in 1963, 1966 and 1973.

I know all of this for an absolute fact -- and it's also what the Wikipedia article correctly states (however, the Wikipedia article is wrong when it says the 1955 and 1956 live broadcasts were 90 minutes; they were two hours).

Many baby boomers seem to have a false memory of seeing "Peter Pan" on television every year -- I had that memory myself! -- but I think it's being confused with "The Wizard of Oz," which was shown every year.
