You know how Rhino used to include the uncut films on their early MST DVDs as extras? Well, for your upcoming releases of the Showa Gamera films, why not negotiate to include the MST3K episodes as extras? The MSTed Gamera film DVDs could be two disc special editions (or three disc, if you're planning to include the American versions), with the originals on disc one and the MST3K episodes on disc two (and plenty of extras on both)? That would be a kaiju-lover and MSTie's dream come true!
Come to think of it, why not extend that process to other films which you guys have the rights to, such as Being From Another Planet, or some of the MGM films I heard you recently acquired? |

Have you been holding out on us?
I heard Lionsgate dropped MGM's bid for their backlog of movies.

These Gamera movies Shout is releasing is a tribute to Gamera, not for dishonor sort to speak - and Japan takes their Kaiju seriously.
Brian said it could happen someday but right now the answer was no
MGM is another story since they are selling off their movie titles to Warner, most likely since they own some of MGMs library already.
I wouldnt expect any MGM titles like Squirm to appear anytime soon..
But as we have seen with Final Sacrifice anything can happen.
I expect SF will go after more PD titles and titles that are licensed but not under a major studio like MGM or Universal. Maybe they tried, or maybe they will wait until they've released all they can before they contact major studios...
SF has been great so far with their releases, so Im pretty sure that they are doing everything they can to get any title.Gamera, AIP, Universal & MGM are pretty much untouchable at this moment. But the future is unknown
That was a great link about Lionsgate being out of the bidding

I would like to know more of the 2nd comment of this thread which had to do with MGM
Have you (as in Shout) checked in with MGM or Susan Hart of AIP or larger studios like Universal for titles for that matter, or is that for a later day ? Have you been turned down by anyone else ? What about Paramount which owns Diabolik the last MST3K episode >
Anything at all you can share with us with the larger studios ? Just wondering :)

I'm not sure what you mean, in regards to Sandy being involved. I mean, it's possible that there may be interest in getting an interview or something, but we certainly wouldn't be dealing with Sandy in any capacity when it comes to licensing the material.
But, like I said earlier, there is no chance of seeing Gamera's MST3K episodes on DVD any time soon. At least, not in any official capacity.

But one thing also to note is that Gamera vs Guiron is listed on Wikipedia as public domain in the US. Is this the Japanese version or a translated version? |

They claim that he owns the dub versions that were shown in the episode and that he hated the song they did etc. Thanks for clearing that up.
