Volume XVIII - The Extras
Now that we know what the titles are for the next set (and are thoroughly excited about them), I thought it would be cool to talk about possible extras.

Any ideas?

I think it'd be cool to get some of those shorts we still haven't got on DVD yet, like Alphabet Antics and Snow Thrills.

I'm still hoping that the Playstation Underground footage will find the light of day.  Plus, it'd be great to get the MST Hour wraps for 'Crash of the Moons'.

I'm sure SF will get the wraps for Crash of the Moons. They've been good about that.

And yeah, I would love to see the Playstation Underground stuff. So funny!

All great ideas!  The PS Underground stuff might be the most difficult to get, since (I'm guessing that) Sony owns the rights to that. It would be cool to have on dvd though, no question.

Maybe Sony could look at it as advertisement for them, - then they could pay Shout Factory to include them.

I would like to see anything about Coleman Francis, since this is the last of his films featured on an MST3k episode.  I just think that so little is known about him, that it might be too difficult and costly to produce a featurette.  I believe Anthony Cardoza is still alive (but really old), so it would be interesting to here him shed some light on what was going through Coleman's large, nutty noggin.  There's an interview with him on The Astounding B-Monster webpage.  For those who haven't read it enjoy:  http://www.bmonster.com/profile37.html

Other than that and the MST3k Hour wraps, I'm not sure what else they would include this time around.  I'm just excited to get the episodes for this one.

Forgive me if I'm mistaken but I don't think you've interviewed M.J. yet - I'd love to see her take on any Sci-Fi ep that goes to DVD.

I'd like to see Frank intro Beast of Yucca Flats too, seeing how he was the one that championed the Coleman Francis trilogy.

Also, any chance of a mini TV Frank in this set? Just kidding.... OK, not really...

I interviewed Mary Jo for the 20th Anniversary, though she wasn't specifically talking about any movies.  That being said, we've only done a couple of those with folks from the cast, starting with Joel's intro to The Crawling Eye on the most recent release.  But I'm not saying it's not possible.

Love the idea of a mini TV's Frank.  Although, like the posters, I'm not all that keen on humanoid figurines.  Except maybe a Johnny Longtorso one day.  But that's just because I want one.  I just feel like there's too much to get wrong, while the bots are all easily scannable and we know they're correct (I don't care what anyone says, they're a lot more accurate than you can possibly imagine).

The thing with a Frank and Forrester figure is that you wouldn't have to do them phtoto realistic, you could do them cartoon-like, the duo pretty lends themselves nicely to that kind of representation. I've seen some fan art that would make wonderful looking figures.

True, but then you'd pretty much have to do the lot of humanoid figures in the same style of "animated" quality.  We wouldn't want them to specifically standout over Joel, Mike, etc.

Have you considered putting the "Tom Servo's Favorite Host Segments" on DVD's - as extras?

It would be cool to get a recording of the band 'Man or Astro-Man?' doing their cover of the MST Love Theme.  It's become a stapel of their concerts, and Joel even mentions the band by name during his cameo in Soultaker.

The extra features sound great. I will also put forth the notion that special intros by cast members are some of the best DVD extras to have on these MST3K DVD sets.

I can’t wait to again be rock climbing and hiding from fake dinosaurs with Romero, Beaumont, Sid Melton and the rest of the crew on the Lost Continent. Still one of the best examples ever of how MST3K could take the most inane, boring movie and turn it into a comedic gem. Fantastic jokes throughout, MST3K at its best and three other strong episodes with it in the same set.
