What does the Warner-Shout deal mean for animation releases?

Brian,

What does the new Warner-Shout deal mean for animation releases?  Does this mean you'll be releasing some of the shows from their Hanna-Barbera/Ruby-Spears library, shows like The Pirates of Dark Water, Thundarr, Pac-Man, Dragon's Lair, and others?  Or was this deal just solely for Max Headroom and the Norm Show?

There are no animated titles within the Warner Bros. deal.  To be honest, this is a HUGE breakthrough, so we were thrilled to finally be able to partner up with WB on the titles announced.  But no animated series.

They have a whole lot of animation that they'll never get around to releasing.  You guys should look into it down the road if your relationship with them goes well.

Brian, this is indeed a huge breakthrough and one that obviously a lot of people are happy about!  I for one did expect to see Max Headroom anytime soon.  Hopefully one day you can expand it to more titles, including animation.  There are quite a few animated titles sitting in WB's vault that are just crying to be released on DVD.

Please bring "Starman" the 1986-87 tv series, Silver Spoons seasons 2 & beyond and Jennifer Slept Here to DVD.

I would think the Warner Archive would cover most of the animated series not on DVD yet. Plus they're releasing Johnny Bravo in April and hopefully other CN shows will follow.

But hopefully Warner will eventually license some cartoons to Shout! in time. If you guys could could snag Popeye (which is stalled at the moment) or MGM Tex Avery, more power to ya.

If WB eventually begins licensing animated shows to Shout!, my votes would be for complete series sets of Space Stars, The Herculoids, and Moby Dick/The Mighty Mightor.

I enjoyed Herculoids a lot, too.  I think The Pirates of Dark Water would be a good one to release around the time of the 4th Pirates of the Carribean movie.

Sometime in 2012 (no doomsday), Warner Bros. and Universal Pictures will be releasing a film of The Jetsons, which may be terrible!

The only good thing about it is, that could lead an interest for either Warner Bros. or Shout! Factory to release the rest of the cartoon series on DVD!

Jetsons Season 2, Volume 2 and Jetsons Season 3

Sometime in 2010, Warner Bros. will be working a new Yogi Bear DVD set, they quoted

"We are exploring new Yogi Bear DVDs timed to the upcoming theatrical released.  Stay turned for more details!"

So that could mean one of the other unleased Yogi Bear cartoon series could be released in 2010!

Yogi's Gang

Yogi's Space Race

Galaxy Goof-Ups

Yogi's Treasure Hunt

The New Yogi Bear Show

Yo Yogi!

It could be either one!

WB/Hanna-Barbera animated series I'd most like to see released: "The Bugs Bunny Show," "The Herculoids," "Frankenstein Jr. and The Impossibles," "The New Adventures of Huck Finn," "Shazzan!," "Josie and the Pussycats in Outer Space," "The Banana Splits" "The Catanooga Cats," - - also Filmation's live-action "Shazam!" (to which WB owns the rights through DC Comics).

If shout ever gets the chance to play in the WB Animation Vault the top 4 shows I'd love to see you guys do would be:

01) Silverhawks Vol. 2

02) The Smurfs - I know WB is putting out vol releases but I'd love to see you guys put out 2 complete series releases ala your Transformers & GI Joe complete series releases. Spread over two big box sets this could be a big seller?

03) Centurions

04) Pac Man

Sooner or later, Warner Bros. HAS to consider licensing their cartoons to Shout! Factory in order to get them available!

Maybe finish Animaniacs and Tiny Toon Adventures!

RE: What does the Warner-Shout deal mean for animation releases?

Warner Archive has announced via their Twitter feed that the Saturday morning cartoon series Pirates of Dark Water will be released on DVD on August 31, 2010, with pre-orders accepted starting Thursday or Friday.  These DVDs will be burned on demand with no bonus features.

In addition, the series Thundarr the Barbarian and Josie and the Pussycats in Outer Space are also expected on Warner Archive DVDs in late September, with the official announcement coming when they are available for pre-order along with "appox. 5 other genre titles.

Maybe some cartoons that were unreleashed in the past, will follow next!

Fingers crossed.
