RE: LEAVE IT TO BEAVER
Yes, please consider picking this series up where Universal left off, if it's possible! They obviously have no interest in releasing the remaining volumes.

RE: LEAVE IT TO BEAVER
Leave It To Beaver is my all-time favorite series. I like it better than all others even The Prisoner and Twin Peaks! I was very happy when Universal announced they were releasing LITB on DVD. I was so pleased I gave away all the VHS tapes of the series that I had recorded from television to a friend with several very small children who did not have cable. It has been over a year since LITB:Season Two was released. Every time I e-mail Universal (which is often)  about LITB S:3 I get a form letter. At least they recently changed the form letter. I knew the other letter practically by heart. Universal has dropped the ball. I hope someone else picks up the series for DVD. Thanks!

One more thing that might be kept in mind.  This October will be the 50th Anniversary of the show.  I know that TVLand is doing a marathon in honor of this event, so a few commercials and tie-ins at that point would be great advertising.  I say jump on this now and take advantage of the Golden Anniversary of the show.

Respectfully submitted,

Gary O.

RE: LEAVE IT TO BEAVER
Thanks Rob Lang, wh5916 and Gary O for your support of LITB. Gary O. has brought up a very important point. This is the 50th Anniversary of the series. Season One was released in December '05. Season Two in May of '06. It has been slightly over a year since Universal's last LITB DVD release. It is not that they have moved from once every six months to a once a year release schedule of each season of the series. They have missed the deadline for that as well. If Universal fails to release any new LITB "product" (as they would probably think of it) during the month (October) AND the year ('07) of the 50th Anniversary then they are not going to! I do not think we should wait and find out! Let someone else capitalize on the anniversary...and let all of us fans of this classic series have the rest of the seasons on DVD. I have read elsewhere that Universal has a history of dropping the ball mid-way through releasing an entire series on DVD previously. Thank you. john

John, I agree with you completely! Part of me wants to believe that Universal is holding out for a special October release of season three, but that date is simply getting too close for comfort. Universal is saying nothing...they're releasing nothing...I'm weary of the wait, and sincerely would like to see Shout Factory negotiate for the rights to the remaining seasons. From what I've seen of the first two DVD releases, the indoor shots are in dire need of digital cleanup to reduce the grainy appearance, but I'd gladly live with the grain through the remaining seasons. Recording the episodes from TV will just not get it...not with 4 minutes cut from each and every episode to make room for more commericals! We NEED someone to release the rest of the series and do a decent job of it!

Thank you Gary O for starting this topic. How much of a response must Shoutfactory get before they truly consider releasing LITB S:3-6? Thanks again. john

Well, we are moving into July and still no announcement from Universal.  I still say SHOUT would have a major coup here if they could license out this all time classic.

Universal has announced their October schedule, and LEAVE IT TO BEAVER is nowhere to be found.  It's very apparent they have given up on this series, so once again I'm asking Shout Factory to pick it up.  I have no doubts it would do very well for them!

This week marks the 50th Anniversary of the show, and we've still heard nothing from Universal.  It would be a coup of monumental proportions for Shout! to get this property.  I also know they'd do a great job with it, and considering that most of the cast is still alive and well it seems well suited for commentaries and all kinds of extras.

Universal just isn't making enough money to warrant releasing more sets.  The first season didn't do exceptionally well and the second season did half those sales.  The bar for a studio like Universal is so high that these numbers just aren't making it worth their while.  I'll wager Universal never releases another season.

Wow, that's horrible Brian.  I realize you don't speak for Universal and that your comments about the future of the show on dvd are only your opinion.  But I've been fearful of the exact same thing for quite some time - that Uni will never produce another season set.  And that is just criminal in my book.  The show is way too iconic to be dropped like that.  Do you think there'd ever be a chance that Shout! would be able to rent this one out from Universal?

RE: LEAVE IT TO BEAVER
It's not impossible.  But the thing about this business is that the big boys don't like to be proven wrong by the little guys.  So if we were to pick it up and actually make it sell, they'd look like marketing fools for not being able to turn it around themselves.  They don't want to face that possibility, so they won't want to license it easily.

Still, no matter how iconic the series, if people aren't buying it, there's a reason.  It could be that people don't want to own it.  It's a wonderful show, but it's not guaranteed that its audience is willing to purchase it.  Even if it is their favorite show.

I bet we'll see more of it when downloads become more common.  Just a hypothesis.

RE: LEAVE IT TO BEAVER
Thanks again, Brian.  I really appreciate you taking time to talk with us LITB fans about this issue.  What a shame that foolish pride would stand in the way of getting a great series like this out to the people.  As for why it didn't sell, I really can't say.  The only thing that I thought was detrimental to sales was the pricetag.  It was a tad high for an older show like this one.  That, and the fact that it didn't seem to get any advertising at all.  I would have thought a few spots on TVLand, when LITB was being shown, might have helped.  But I don't remember seeing any.

RE: LEAVE IT TO BEAVER
I'm thrilled to see that there are still alot of LITB fans out here! I have been e-mailing Shout Factory everyday for a while now pleading with them to bring the rest of the seasons out or at the very least give us a date. I have also spread the word to a few message boards to have all the fans drop them an e-mail praying that they will get sick of hearing from us and will get it out already. It is so frustrating that we constantly see brand new shows make it to DVD within  months of being on TV. I want to continue this campaign of getting our beloved LITB on DVD once and for all, but I can't do it alone, they have to hear from ALL of us, so lets flood their computers with e-mails EVERYDAY until we get what we want. I'm very strong-willed and will never give up until someone brings the rest of the seasons out NOW!
