Killdozer & other "Made for TV" Horror

I think there's a market for those old "Made for TV" horror films - there was even a DVD outfit called "Wild Eye Releasing" whose plan it was to track down this stuff and get it out there on DVD (I'd even corresponded with them - they actually asked me for a "wish list"...) but I don't know what's happened to them and the movies they did release are now out-of-print.  These films made use of some amazing talent and are probably mouldering on a shelf somewhere -but we haven't forgotten them.  Some titles I'd love to see Shout Factory look into are "Killdozer," "The Initiation of Sarah" with Shelley Winters and Kay Lenz (recently remade with Jennifer Tilly), "Don't Look Under the Bed" with Valerie Harper and Ruth Gordon,  "The House that Would Not Die" with Barbara Stanwyck, "The Intruder Within" - "Alien" ripoff that takes place on an oil-rig with Chad Everett, and "The Sins of Dorian Gray" with Anthony Perkins and Belinda Baur.  Anyone else have fond memories of any titles I may have forgotten?

Actually, the TV movie with Valerie Harper and Ruth Gordon was titled Don't Go To Sleep and was a great film!  I started a thread on it already because I (and many others) would love to own a quality DVD of this movie.  Unfortunately, I believe the rights are owned by Warner Bros., which means Shout! will likely never have a chance to ever release this one.  Warner is notorious for never licensing out any of their property.  If the video distribution rights are available or if WB would license this title out to Shout!, fans would buy this one up!!

Thanks for lettin' me know - Don't Go To Sleep was the movie and Don't Look Under the Bed was how I spent the next month after seeing the movie.  Now that WB is doing DVD-R recordings, maybe we can email them about it.  Did you get alot of responses on your thread?  Maybe we could all get together and ask them (heck - they put "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark" on DVD...)

I want "Dark Night Of The Scarecrow" from 1981. It starred Charles Durning. This was a creepy movie. A year or two ago, a special DVD was in the works. Then it was abruptly canceled. The writer or producer said they even had special features they were working on. I heard them say that they are not giving up on it. It would be great if this finally got a release.

RE: Killdozer & other "Made for TV" Horror

Now, here's a thread that's a sight for sore eyes. I grew up on a lot of these 70s horror/Sci-Fi made-for-TV flicks, and I, too, was aware of Wild Eye Releasing, Mystiefreak, and I, too, emailed them a wishlist. Too bad nothing ever came of it. I am aware of three flicks I adore that have made it into official releasing: Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark, The Bermuda Depths and Snowbeast. Though, to date, I have only acquired Snowbeast. I was planning on getting those other two, but then Shout hit me for a loop with their announcement of their Corman flicks.

Anyone recall Curse Of The Black Widow and Spectre? Two of my all time favorites. I still have that VHS Anchor Bay released of Curse way back in '99, and I just have to replace my VHS of Spectre. It's finally wearing down. In case no one is aware, Videoscreams.com has just about every one of these flicks on bootleg. It's where I bought The Intruder Within. Got some good memories of that one, too.

So, that's what happened to that pending Dark Night Of The Scarecrow DVD. Never got to see that one, because I have vague memories of being scared by the commercial of it. Need to see it, now, though.

And, Killdozer is one I had always heard of, but also had never seen.

Hey -that's pretty cool you have "Curse of the Black Widow" - I still have my VHS copy of that one, too.  I really thought Anchor Bay would put it on DVD, but it never happened.  I've got the Warner Archive DVD of "Don't be Afraid of the Dark" and it looks pretty good, actually.  I'll have to check out Videoscreams for "Intruder Within."  I don't know "Spectre."  I did get a DVD of "The Devil's Daughter" from Wild Eye (sadly out of print now).  That one's fun - Abe Vigoda attempting what I think is a Spanish accent... Jonathan Frid (Barnabus Collins of "Dark Shadows") as a mute servant, and of course the always hungry for scenery to chew Shelley Winters.

The one I'd like to see the most is "The House that Could Not Die" - I've got what has to be the most painfully bad VHS copy on the planet.  What I wouldn't give for a DVD release of that.

I'm surprised Anchor Bay never put Curse out either, but, you know what, last year, I emailed Dark Sky Films, after I saw they were putting out another film by Dan Curtis--can't recall the title--suggesting, perhaps, Curse Of The Black Widow might benefit them financially, and they actually responded, but saying only, "We'll look into it."

Videoscreams has got a pretty decent print of The Intruder Within, VHS quality, but entirely watchable. Spectre is the one with Robert Culp and Gig Young. They have that one, too, except they put in the wrong catagory. You have to look under Extreme Horror And Gore to find it. I have to admit I have never heard of The House That Could Not Die. I'll have to go to IMDB and check it out.

Now, what's the quality like on that Warner Archive, Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark. There's some dude on IMDB who says they have got a horrible print of it. I still have a bootleg, a pretty damn clear one, too. But, I still want to upgrade to Warner's some day.

I just checked out that movie, The House That Would Not Die, on IMDB. It actually sounds good to me. One review said it was in the same vein as The Uninvited and The Haunting, two of my favorite movies about haunted houses. And the plot sounded good, too. I'll have to put this one on my mental list of bootlegs to get. Like that title, too. And, sometimes, a title is everything.

I don't have anyting to compare it to, but I thought the Warner Archive DVD was just fine.  Perhaps the guy on IMDB does have a better copy - I do know that Warner's not "restoring" any of the Archive stuff - it's all "as is."  But their print of "From Hell It Came" is the clearest I've ever seen that movie look.  I'm really happy with my copy of that one.  I also picked up Hammer's "She" but haven't watched it yet.

I think Dark Sky is a subsidiary of MPI - so it's not surprising they'd have some other Dan Curtis stuff as MPI released "Dark Shadows" (I'm sure you probably know all that already).  I hope they really do look into "Curse of the Black Widow."  Sometimes "I'll look into it" is the same as when a DJ says "I'll try to fit it in" when you request a song.  But I really like Dark Sky, so who knows...

From Hell It Came! That's one I still need to acquire, too.

Got a good memory of that one. I was in seventh or eighth grade and had just come home from one of those class dances. It was Friday night, and Theater Bizarre was on, and it was running this flick. Fell asleep to it, too.

You know, I was actually getting ready to either buy some bootlegs, or get something in that Warner Archive, but then, wouldn't you know it, Shout hits me with all those Corman flicks, and puts all my plans on hold.

I hate prioritizing when a lot of movies come out that I need. But, I simply can not put off buying Forbidden World and Galaxy of Terror! Must have those at all cost.
