Member since: 1/19/2010 | | Medabots Season 2? | Over the Summer of 2009 I bought one of Shout! Factory's DVD's: Medabots The Complete First Season. I was completely satisfied with the DVD. But then I found out the story wasn't all over. I was wondering when you were going to make the Season 2 DVD. And if it will be before Summer 2010 ends. I work my job and the first thing I want to do is buy the 2nd Season. It would be awesome if Shout! could make the 2nd Season on a DVD soon. |

There was no where in Canada was selling it in stores if I had seen it on a shelf I would of bought it sooner. I also know a few other people that would have bought it as well but don't trust buying of the internet.
I would buy the second box set in a heartbeat.
Over all I was happy with the first box set I was disappointed that the box and dvd menu art wasn't even from the first season.

At least put it up on Hulu or something. |

What I can say is that, typically, we need a set of this nature to do upward of 10,000 or more to warrant a follow-up. Medabots didn't get there.
And we don't have digital rights to the series, so we legally cannot release it on Hulu, YouTube, iTunes or even our own website as downloadable content.
Sorry, gang.

Member since: 3/5/2010 | | RE: Medabots Season 2? | If you want the rest of the series, as Shout's given up on it. Go see if you can find ADV's release of the series, it's incredibly out of print (since it came out when the show was still airing on television, which was 8 years ago), if that fails, look for the Canada-exclusive kaBOOM releases, those are also incredibly out of print. If that fails, and you live in the US, Amazon's video market place thing has the entire series (including the third season which has never seen a home release in North America).
As for Shout's release, it helps that it never got into retail stores (no big retailer who owned physical locations carried the release even on release date) in the country it was most popular in, Canada. Which is odd, as the show was dubbed in Canada (in Toronto), and is licensed by a Canadian company (Nelvana). As for the show not being popular, it was one of Fox Kid's highest rated programs for the time it lived on the block before that died, and it was popular enough to warrant the dubbing of an additional 60 odd episodes. Which I'm sure cost a lot more then it does to produce a couple dvds ;) . |

Member since: 6/5/2010 | | RE: Medabots Season 2? | | I hate to bump an old topic but I blame the lack of advertising for the lack of sales. I literally walked into a BestBuy one day and a few copies were just sitting there. If i had know it was coming out I would have bought it ASAP. Also this is aminor complaint but what is up with the DVD cover? It almost exclusively features characters from the third season, which wasn't very well received by fans. |

Member since: 1/12/2007 | | RE: Medabots Season 2? | The first season was released in 2008 and had a fairly sizable push in advertising. We had web banners all over major DVD sites, as well as popular anime and animation sites. We had print ads in major magazines, news articles and reviews in several anime and animation magazines. DVD websites reviewed it, as well. You could also find the Medabots trailer at the beginning of several of our similar DVD titles. How would you have preferred we advertise?
Furthermore, I'm not sure I understand your complaint about the cover. There are three characters on the cover: Ikki, Metabee and Sumilidon. All three are prominent characters in S1.

Member since: 1/12/2007 | | RE: Medabots Season 2? | Do you have any concept of how much it costs to buy time for a television ad? Furthermore, on what channel would you recommend airing it? And at what time of day? Because with the amount of money it takes to buy time, it can only be aired ONCE. So, please... Where should we have spent our entire marketing budget in one 30-second lump sum?
Watch TV for the next hour and tell me something: With the exception of big studio movies and the occasional popular TV DVD like Seinfeld or Friends, how many commercials do you see for television series on DVD? And how many of those series are animated? Expectations have to remain reasonable. No studio would've spent the money to air a spot for Medabots on television, including FOX.

(If you hadnt spent so much money on adds in magazines and papers e.t.c MAYBE you could have aired tv adds.) Besides, there are people that still would bye the saeson dvd if they even knew it was made. You've got to spend money to make money.
P.S-I see MANY ANIMATED season dvds |

Member since: 1/28/2008 | | RE: Medabots Season 2? | I have to deffend Shout Factory. To advertise on a website only costs a few hundred dollars. Televised ad time usually costs $10,000 per second. Internet advertisement was a better route to go. If the dvd didn't sell well it was because it was never ment to sell well, not because enough people didn't hear about the dvd. The only problem with the Medabots dvd was there weren't enough fans willing to purchase it.
Shout Factory knows how to release televsion, now if only they could release Legends Of the HIdden Temple. One can always dream. |

Some quickly tosed together clips and a pic of the set thrown onto youtube would of been a better route that doesn't cost anything. >_>

Member since: 1/12/2007 | | RE: Medabots Season 2? | Just for the menu design, encoding and authoring, we need somewhere around $10,000, roughly. Then, add to that the cost of manufacturing at the plant and packaging design and manufacturing. And marketing, while we're at it. How much do you think we could get from donations? How much would you, personally, be willing to donate?

 Member since: 9/2/2011 | | RE: Medabots Season 2? | Yes, I'm reviving a dead thread.
First off, I'd like to say that I am a big fan of what Shout! does. I own the ReBoot box set as well as all the individual seasons of Home Movies. Also, going to pick up Beast Wars complete series, undoubtedly.
HOWEVER. I purchased Medabots season 1 and was so thoroughly disappointed. Disappointed in finding that the rest of the series isnt being released, yes, incredibly. But also disappointed in the product itself and disappointed in how this is all being handled.
How much did you spend on package design and all of that? Did you even shop around? Because a fan could have done a better job for a better price. As someone previously mentioned, the characters arent even correct on the packaging. Yes, you did get main characters, but Metabee, the series' main character is depicted as he appears in season 3. If anyone involved in the project stopped to watch even a single episode on this DVD, they might have realized the art didnt match the content. God forbid someone opens the cases inside, where they are bombarded by huge artwork of characters someone would not recognize after watching this whole box set. But hey, at least the designer knew what typography to use and where to place the title...
I see you are on the forums and interacting with the fans, which is so important and I really appreciate that. But that also makes me wonder: why didnt you turn to them for help? You have such a great resource in the fans of these series' you release - use it. They want to help, to get the product they want.
I WOULD donate a considerable amount to this project (despite what I feel was a sarcastic and rhetorical challenge of a question) if I knew it would turn out a complete, quality project. I live in Toronto and will be contacting Nelvana to at least check out what my options are in helping to release a final product the fans can enjoy.
