Do you know if there are English tracks on these DVD's? I think the previous French releases did not have them included.
Also, the new Hasbor/Discovery Kids channel will be called THE HUB. Here's hoping they'll air some old Sunbow Cartoons like Jem, Visionares and Inhumanoids! |

Remember, they only got the rights to several of their shows back a couple years ago. They still may not have rights to licenses in certain foreign territories. Who knows?
We're in constant talks with Hasbro about some of their older shows. If anything comes up, believe me, Jem is on our list. It's just not available right now.

In the U.S., this show seems to be caught up in rights hell but, hopefully, what the hold up is they will settle it soon. It's a VERY popular show and it's wasting away on a shelf. The generation that loved it is still around now. Waiting won't help the matter. |

I remember reading something somewhere from Christy Marx (creator of the show) where she explained the situation was very complicated and didn't seem likely to be sorted out anytime soon. It's a real shame because it seems like a lose-lose situation between whatever parties involved. No one gets anything from the show just sitting there. I'm glad I still have the rest of the series as I originally recorded them.
Come to think of it, I wonder if it has anything to do with that singer named Jem. Hmmmm.

But it sounds like that has been sorted out, and maybe Hasbro is starting to develop something new. So if that's the case, then maybe they will release the licensing for the DVDs -- similar to the release of the Transformers/G.I. Joe DVD in conjunction with the theatrical releases.

Member since: 9/25/2009 | | RE: JEM DVDs will be available in France | I did remember seeing an interview with Christy Marx saying that she would love to be a part of a new Jem show, if one was ever to be developed by Hasbro. Samantha Newark (JEM's speaking voice) in a youtube video, expressed some interest as well.
I think a new JEM show, animated or live-action would do well in the new Hasbro/Discovery Kids Network, THE HUB scheduled to broadcast later this year. Its a good chance Hasbro maybe working on a new show as we speak, since G.I. Joe has already been green-lit for a 26 episode series, as I'm sure a new Transformers series will soon follow. At Hasbro's investor's meetig last year, Hasbro did mention they were working on projects with 12 of their brands for the new network, including Micronauts, My Little Pony and Strawberry Shortcake. Here's hoping JEM is on that list!
I think 2010 will be an exciting year for Hasbro fans with the new HUB network. We will get a chance to see some new incarnations of Hasbro's popular lines and possibly rebroadcasts of those great Hasbro/Sunbow shows of the 80's we all love, like JEM, Inhumanoids, Visionaries, G.I. Joe, Transformers, Robotix etc. And if Hasbro does re-broadcast these shows, since its very costly for a new network to develop an entirely new line-up, they'll probably release these shows on DVD. Brian Ward has already stated that Shout! Factory is in constant talks with HASBRO to release some of their shows, JEM being one of them. I think we'll see JEM on DVD and hopefully Blue Ray, sooner than we think!! |

Member since: 9/25/2009 | | RE: JEM DVDs will be available in France | I just learned that, back in November 2009, a couple movie sites reported that Hasbro signed a multi-movie deal with Universal Pictures to produce film adaptaions of various Hasbro toy lines (Stretch Armstrong, Clue, Battleship etc.), in addition to the Transformers and G.I. Joe films. According to these sites, one of the films included in the deal, was no other than JEM. Apparently, still in early stages of development, High School Musical scribe, Peter Barsocchini is attached to write/produce, while relatively unknown Chinese director John Chu, is set to direct. The same sources also mention that the film may or may not materialize, since Universal and Hasbro are considering a new JEM television series to first introduce younger viewers to the 25+ year old brand. Maybe this is what Brian meant when he said, licenses and rights had nothing to do with the JEM DVD situation. |

So is pajiba a reliable site??? -- never heard of it until they posted the movie news about Jem. There has also been posts saying that Hasbro talked about Jem at the Investor Day -- which Hasbro did not talk about Jem at all. But Hasbro did say that the investors would see the other toys in development for the channel. So I'm hoping that's where the rumor is coming from. I'm just waiting (on pins and needles) for Hasbro to reveal the other shows on Hub -- they said the full list would be released in February. So the 2009 4th Qtr. meeting is Monday, and Toy Fair starts next Sunday -- so I'm hoping we will know more within this next week or two. |

Member since: 9/25/2009 | | RE: JEM DVDs will be available in France | I'm thinking Hasbro/Discovery will probably go with a new animated series rather than a film, since Hasbro needs to re-establish a fan base to sell dolls and playsets to younger viewers. Unfortunately, this would probably mean a real kiddie show, with simple stories, basic characters and bad art. (ie Transformes Animated). A formula most companies have used in the past decade or so. But hopefully, they'll take a good look at the original and develop something on par.
On the other hand, if Hasbro opts to do a live action film, I think they'd be keen to go after the Twilight crowd and create merchandising more appropriate to those fans. After all, JEM was essentially a drama, thanks to Christy Marx. Maybe the answer would be a live action serial, like the ones on ABC Family and the CW, avoiding shows like Hannah Montana entirely. Whatever happens, I hope that Hasbro develops a good show that will live up to the original. |
