While we love dipping into nostalgia, I just don't think we could sell that many discs devoted to older commercials. Using them as bonus material, however, is always an option. But even if we use them as bonus material, our licensors will get approval of what does and doesn't make the cut. If there's even the slightest question of it being in the public domain, those commercials won't be included. It's tough.

Member since: 3/25/2007 | | RE: commericals | | I understand this IS very tricky, because of copyright issues, but some examples of DVD companies successfully obtaining rights to include sponsor commercials in their sets would be Image Entertainment's excellent "Naked City" sets, as well as VCI Entertainment's "Burke's Law" half-season sets, and also Classic World's "Mama Cass Television Program". These commercials were all included as a separate play-all feature, they were all of broadcast quality (and WITHOUT watermarks, I might add), and in the case of the Mama Cass disc the program could be viewed with or without the ads. If you'd be willing to at least consider including the commercials on any of your future releases, you might want to check with the licensors at these companies to see how they overcame all the legal hurdles to make it possible. And remember, being able to watch the vintage commercials on these sets only boosts their nostalgia value, which is VERY important to most of us who grew up watching these great shows.....Thanks |
