Hey, does anyone remember the sketch comedy show The Vacant Lot? It was a spin-off of sorts from Kids in the Hall and ran for six episodes starting in December of '93 before the executives at CBC pulled the plug on it. The troupe consisted of Rob Gfrorer, Paul Greenberg, Vito Viscomi and Nick McKinney (brother of Mark McKinney of Kids in the Hall fame). The show never had a chance to evolve but it was quite hilarious with often dark and absurdist humor and almost always ended with an uproarious music video. Plus, their opening theme music was 'Pretty Vacant' by the Sex Pistols.
Here is an example of their work. The song from episode one, "Slept on His Arms":

I've always wondered why this great though brief show never made it onto DVD. It has a large cult following and certainly fits into the nostalgia category. Six episodes on a single DVD with a few extras thrown in (or not, I'd buy it even bareboned) would be a wonderful way to kick off the new year. I know I'm probably dreaming but I thought I'd bring it to Mr. Ward's attention. You never know till you try, right? |
