there is a good chance that Universal will put it out.  They completed the original series recently.  Would not be surprised if they put this out as well.

You are right.  My mistake.  But I figure they will proably put out the 1980s series themselves.

It dosen't say on the CBS Television Syndication Bible website that the 1988 Mission: Impossible TV series has been transferred to HD like the original TV series. But hopefully the two season revival will come out on DVD sometime in 2010.

I would be on this in a hot minute!!

I have the original series and this would make a great addition.

Pluses to this series:  it didn't ignore the original, it embraced it and used it's established characters to propel the new series. The new characters for this series were all well created.

Yep - this deserves to come out soon.

RE: Mission Impossible 1988 Series
The BBFC in the UK added three new listings to their website last week - one was for episode promos for selected episodes of the original Mission: Impossible TV series, and the other two were for the second season premiere of Mission: Impossible 1988, "The Golden Serpent: Parts 1 & 2". Now I have a bad feeling this isn't going to be a Region 2 DVD release of both of the two seasons of the show, as it states on the listing pages for the two parter that they're additional material. So this could mean a Region 2 DVD complete series set of the original Mission: Impossible TV series is in the works.

RE: Mission Impossible 1988 Series
My understanding based on what I have read:

They couldn't have mastered the 1988 series to HD.  Any show that was finalized on tape before the advent of HD recording cannot be mastered to HD, because tape does not have enough resolution to do it.

So you have an entire generation of shows that were shot on film, but were edited into final completion on video tape that will not see life in HD (unless the original film takes were saved, and someone wants to go to the extreme cost of rebuilding each episode shot by shot...which is never going to happen.)

As an example:  Star Trek was finalized and presented to NBC each week in 35mm film format.  They can, and have, been mastered to HD.  Next Generation, Deep Space Nine were finalized and presented to each station in video tape format...as was Voyager to UPN.  They cannot be mastered to HD since the final product exists only as video tape.  Sometime during the making of Enterprise, they started producing it in HD, so it is already in that format.

20 plus years of shows that will not be worth putting on Blu-Ray...except for maybe the ability to put more low res shows on a single disk.

Whether the episodes can be transferred to HD or not, it will still be great to see the late 80's-early 90's Mission: Impossible TV series on DVD.

Tennessee Tuxedo and his Tales: The Complete Collection
MoreTennessee, a wise-cracking penguin, and his dimwitted pal Chumley resided in the Megalopolis Zoo, where they were constantly scheming against zookeeper Stanley Livingston and his assistant Flunky in an attempt to raise the quality of zoo life.
