THE JOE FRANKLIN SHOW
Bizarre local NY show that became legendary; among those who showed up over the years, the list includes Bing Crosby, Bill Cosby, Capt. Lou Albano, The Ramones (!) It was parodied most famously by Billy Crystal on SNL back in '84. Also, Franklin made a memorable appearance in THE ARISTOCRATS. The show is a kitschy spectacular that needs a proper BEST OF release!

RE: THE JOE FRANKLIN SHOW

I heartily agree. I remember, as a kid, staying up late (1am!)and hearing that wacky ragtime piano music that opened the show, and marveling at the bizarre parade of the famous and the completely obscure. There's a treasure trove of nostalgia to be mined there. I don't know how well it would play outside of the NY-NJ-CT area, though. It always seemed a very "New York" thing, what with all the borscht belt comics and Off Broadway performers that used to appear. (BTW, Joe Franklin also has a memorable cameo in Ghostbusters, when Dan Aykroyd appears on his show and Joe asks him "How is Elvis, and have you seen him lately"?)

New Jersey's  "The Uncle Floyd Show" also is ripe for revisitation, I think.

Uncle Floyd had a BEST OF dvd a few years back, though I wouldn't mind seeing the NBC version, where I first discovered them as a kid.

RE: THE JOE FRANKLIN SHOW

Why am I a jerk? Are you a SMALL WONDER/MR. BELVEDERE fan? If there are people who are enthusiastic when Shout puts their money behind shows like that, can't there be a dissenting opinion? And if it disappoints me to see people so consumed with nostalgia for junk, am I am jerk for saying so? I guess your answer would be YES.
