Murphy's Law is a series which appears to have made barely any impression. It lasted only one season. It was based on an insurance investigator series of novels by Warren Murphy, though it quickly outraged me as false to that writer's vision. (The character in the novels was named Trace. Murphy essentially duplicated a series character called Digger whom he'd created for another paperback publisher.) Nonetheless the series quickly hooked me on its own merits. It was unpredictable: mystery, adventure, comedy, and a heartbreaking final episode comparable to the Book of Job. It co-starred the gorgeous Maggie Han, and if you were lucky, she would also appear in a lingerie commercial during a commercial break. (These commercials would have to be an extra on any DVD set.) Great supporting cast as well, one unlikeable member of which was murdered in the course of the series. Anyhow, I see Shout! has come out with a series which, in terms of the number of episodes, was even less successful, Andy Barker PI, so I thought I'd mention Murphy's Law and, well, not hold my breath. |
