Let's hear it for SHOUT!
I just wanted to post a message to let Shout know how much I appreciate their releases. They are really interested in what the fans want and they take time to answer e-mails and respond which is more than I can say for any other studio. I've actually been buying more Shout! releases because of this and now I have so much to watch, I don't even need to buy shows from other studios. I have to say I've e-mailed other studios and no one is as considerate at Shout in answering questions. So, just want to say thanks and keep up the great work!

Thanks, SparkleRC.  You keep enjoying the releases and we'll keep listening.  That's a promise.

RE: Let's hear it for SHOUT!

if shout really cared about the fans they would not sell dvd box sets for 145 dollars LIKE GI JOE

then there is werewolf  rether then just pay for the rights to use the music they scrap the release just weeks before it was to have come out

BOTTOM LINE all shout cares about is money not the fans

RE: Let's hear it for SHOUT!

Uh hello, the GI Joe box set you are referring to is THe COMPLETE SERIES and that is not an unreasonable price.  Especially when the individual seasons are being released along side it at a lower price.  If Shout didn't care about the fans all you would be offered is the expensive box set.

As for Werewolf, we don't really know what the deal is with the music.  Permission to use some music may simply have been denied.  If Shout! only cared money & not it's fans they would release an overpriced butched up set with scenes/music missing.  Shout! lost money on Werewolf so don't say all they care about is money.

145 dollars for 17 discs is NOT a good price and the set is NOT COMPLETE in the 1st place

it is the sunbow series ONLY it does not include the DIC series or the 1987 gi joe movie

RE: Let's hear it for SHOUT!

It's the complete series of the series they are releasing.  If the price is too high for you, you don't have to buy it.  Shout! is a company that needs to make money to survive, just like any other.  I don't know why you're complaining.  Maybe you could write a letter to Santa Claus to bring you the GI Joe set since you seem to expect it for free or something .

I appreciate the help, TV_Fan.  Interestingly enough, it would appear this guy joined just to counter this topic.  Huh.  Kinda flattering, really.

BTW, Michael... Are you upset that the new Battlestar Galactica complete series set doesn't include the original series?  I mean, they carry the same title.  And just like those series, while the title is the same, the DiC series is NOT part of the complete G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero series from Sunbow.  Do your research and you'll find that it started a couple years AFTER the original series ended.  Secondly, the movie wasn't part of the series, either.  It was designed as a theatrical release, though it only hit video and television after the box office failure of Transformers: The Movie.  This was NOT an episode of the series and, therefore, has no business being a part of the complete series set.  Thirdly, there's a spot in the complete series set for the movie, once we complete the disc next year.

RE: Let's hear it for SHOUT!

let me put is this way i bought it this way i bought the robotech protoculture set for 100 bucks

and it was 21 discs and the complere series so i have a real problem paying 150 bucks for an incomeplete gi joe

BTW 90 percent of the gi joe set shout is selling has already been released on dvd by rhino home video

so i would anyone pay 145 dollars just to get the rest of season 2 of  gi joe rhino did not release

RE: Werewolf

I refuse to believe in the people who claimed that SF worked on the set BEFORE attempting to secure all of the original broadcast music. True fans of SF will know that it was because they thought there wouldn't be any issues with the artists and publishers that they reviewed, and that they also just cleared "thirtysomethnig", and didn't think that this show would be a problem.

RE: Let's hear it for SHOUT!
While you may have bought it for $100, the original Robotech's Protoculture set's MSRP was $130.  I own that set, sir.  There were only 85 episodes in that collection.  It also came in standard packaging.

G.I. Joe: The Complete Series contains 95 episodes, including the volume that was not released by Rhino, 17 discs and special packaging that include a book and 1GB Flash Drive.  And just as you could, if you'd ordered your Proculture collection from someplace like Amazon, you can get the set on sale or on eBay or used from an Amazon vendor that I'm sure will be happy to sell you your set for $100 or less eventually.  We have our price.  Amazon and other retailers set their own.  We have no control over for how much they sell their copies of the sets.

As folks have happily pointed out numerous times on the other thread, if you're unhappy with the price, you can pick up the four individual volumes at cheaper prices as they're released.  You'll not receive the exclusive packaging or some of the bonus features, but you will have your complete series.

RE: Let's hear it for SHOUT!
I don't understand your post.  Are you suggesting we DIDN'T work on the series?  Because I have complete packaging designed, several brand new featurettes and commentaries in the can, as well as completed DLTs ready to go to the plant that say otherwise.

To make dates requested by studios, retailers and our own needs, we often--if not usually--begin work on production WHILE clearing music or footage contained within programs.  This is standard of all studios and isn't something new or exclusive to Shout! Factory.  By the time the sets are complete, these issues are usually taken care of.  In this case, two songs were simply unavailable to us.  And they were never going to be.

Furthermore, I have no problems with people making critical statements in the appropriate threads.  But someone logged on and thought it would be nice to show their appreciation by starting this particular thread.  And you guys have decided to do what's so simple via the internet and use it as a forum to attack the company.  Again.  Michael, you could've complained or made your point in the actual G.I. Joe thread.  Instead, you decided to come into this one and complain about stuff that had nothing to do with the original post.  You said we don't care about the fans and, yet, if you go to the G.I. Joe and Transformers threads, you'll find that I did nothing BUT interact with those fans to try to give them what they wanted.  You just came in here to complain about a price that didn't meet your liking.

Lastly... What kind of an absurd statement is "now can someone tell me why shout would release both gi joe and transformers on dvd when both have ALREADY been released on dvd i just don't see the point"??  The point is pretty simple, sir.  Those sets went out of print years ago and, if you think ours are expensive, you should've seen the price gouging going on at Amazon and eBay.  And those sets were in horrible shape.  You want a prime example?  People are currently selling the complete Macross Saga for over $400 at Amazon right now.  It's a six-disc set.  Would you pay that?  Really?  Now imagine there's nowhere else to get it.  There was still a demand for both of these series.  Obviously, since you, after all, came looking for one of them.  And we've had no problem selling them.  For the most part, people have even been very happy.  Now, if we'd not been the ones to release the sets and someone we'd been bidding against (because we WERE bidding against other companies) had, would you be over there complaining about the re-release, too?

I can't believe I have to defend a choice to bring something like Transformers and G.I. Joe back to DVD.  Why does Disney re-release all of their movies?  Do you have any idea how many times Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs has been re-released theatrically, let alone on home video?!?  It's because of the generations that have gone on since its initial release seven decades ago that haven't been exposed to it.  People don't want to pay upwards of $400 for Rhino collections, when they want to show their kids the series they grew up with after exposing them to the Michael Bay and Stephen Sommers movies.  They especially don't want to pay that when half the second season was never released, in the case of G.I. Joe.

Brian, I was just saying that there were people who were trying to claim that you guys did a backwards job on the "Werewolf" complete series set. By that,  I mean they claimed that you produced the set BEFORE trying to secure the music.

Gotcha.  Yeah, that didn't happen.  We were securing music throughout the production.

Thanks for the clarification, Zaxxar.

RE: Let's hear it for SHOUT!
I'm gonna revive an old thread to voice my own appreciation for the efforts of Shout! Factory and the production teams and customer service. With excellent releases of G.I. Joe and The Transformers, after releases marred by the addition of sound effects not present in the original mix, Shout! finally provided us with definitive editions on DVD. And now, they have realized the dream of every ReBoot fan, a dream which we may have even given up hope on, in bringing the entire series to DVD.

The only thing which could make the experience even better is a Shout! release of Transformers: The Movie. Hopefully, some time in the future, they will acquire the rights at bring the movie back in print for a new generation of Transfans.

Thank-you, Shout! You guys truly are awesome!
