Robotech: The Movie

Made in 1986, made from the movie MEGAZONE 23, PART 1 and an episode of SUPER DIMENSIONAL SOUTHERN CROSS. Only had a test screening in Texas for a few months, and has never been released since.

Would like to see this get released to DVD as you might already know. Is anyone here a fan of Robotech though?

In 1999 an alien spaceship crashed onto the earth. Hidden on board were the secrets of a unique science known as Robotechnology. Databanks found in the ship were transferred to the Earth Robotech Computer Complex. In 2009, an alien search party arrived from hyper-space to reclaim their lost databank. The united Earth Government was forced into an Inter Galactic war. Earth forces were able to win the first battle......but at a great cost. The planet was virtually destroyed. New population centres grew out of the ashes..... It is now 2027, a second armada sent by the aliens is nearing earth, they have come to recapture the secrets of their lost technology and then destroy the Earth.

RE: Robotech: The Movie

Harmony Gold like to pretend ROBOTECH: The Movie never happened as does the "director" Carl Macek. Thans to Cannon films constant demands for changes, the original cut of the flick will never be seen, which I would like to see and then compare the original vision to the one that was released upon the world for such a short time.

I own a copy of the film that was released and I wouldn't say it's anything brilliant. It's a nice little piece of "lost" Robotech, but it's better left buried.

Choosing between cake and death is easy. Choosing between GODZILLA VS MEGALON and death is not.

I wouldn't say that. Any fan of Cannon Films might take an interest in this too.

I saw a preview clip on youtube I think might be for the original version, which is apparently lost forever. In the clip Mark on the bike seeing the robot for the time says "A giant robot?" while in the final version I recall him saying "Uh oh, I'm in trouble."

I would buy this in a heartbeat.  Sure it's not Robotech at it's best at all but it's still interesting.

RE: Robotech: The Movie

I think most ROBOTECH fans would agree, though some would probably never admit it. Whether they've seen it or not.

A few special features, or just a trailer, depending on what Shout decides. And release it to DVD. Get the attention of Robotech fans, Anime fans, Cannon Films fans, and collector's of rare films. Promote the DVD as a film thought to have been lost for decades.

meh, I owned a copy of megazone 23 part 1 (ADV release), nothing special.  as for Southern Cross, never made it past the first disc of it back when adv released robotech in 6 episode discs, Southern Cross was garbage and it killed my interest in continuing to buy the dvds...

RE: Robotech: The Movie
Well considering theat ADV (Now Sxtion 23 among other companies) has the rights to Southern Cross and Megazone 23 Part 1 and had a good relationship with Harmony Gold could have assembled Robotech: The Movie rather easily as they had the visual materials in hand, but it never happened, its like they want it to disappear in the sands on time, I saw Robotech the Movie recently and it isn't a horrible as some reviews make it, but the editing and the transitions between the SC and MZ23 footage is somewhat jarring, and I wouldn't mind having it on DVD.
