G.I. Joe: The Movie
I've heard the movie is not on DVD anymore. Was there news of a re-release? Like from Shout?

RE: G.I. Joe: The Movie

found some news it's set for 2010, seems so far away

I still own a poor VHS tape that my older brother recorded off TV. Had it as long as I remember.

Keep that poor VHS tape. If anything copy it over to a DVD. You can use it as reference to see if there have been any changes.

If that's the 5 parter version you recorded off the TV, I'd say hold onto it.

Choosing between cake and death is easy. Choosing between GODZILLA VS MEGALON and death is not.

I think so. There are some dim to black, pause moments.

Why, does the 5 part TV version have more scenes than the DVD?

I've never heard of the five-part version having additional scenes (usually it's the opposite way when a feature-length animated movie is cut down to air on television, like Disney's two-hour "Tale Spin" premiere, for instance.) Does the copy you have also feature the standard main title and closing credits sequences from the show? If so, that probably makes it feel longer than the movie since it adds to the running time.

Some of the opening scene is just static cause it's an old tape. The title sequence is blocked out. The end credits aren't, they start, but then cut straight to an episode of GOLDWING. Again, this was taped from TV when I was probably a baby for all I know.

No specific release date yet, but Brian has already said that Shout plans to re-release it a little ways down the line.  There's even a spot for the Movie disc in the Complete Series set of G.I. Joe.  Awesome movie, wish I still had my old VHS tape of it.  I had one of the first video releases of it, long before it showed up on TV.

RE: G.I. Joe: The Movie
the 5 parter is rare now as each episode has a live action speech from Sgt. Slaughter at the beginning, maybe even at the ending not sure (can't remember too well going back 20 years) , atleast it did during the original run back in the 80's...

The only edit for the TV version that I remember was that they chopped the OP of the movie to fit a 1:30 timeframe (and yes, the Movie Opening Rocks!)
