More Peyton Place!!

Please, you'll drive a girl to drink if she doesn't get Part 3 of Peyton Place very soon.

Till then, kids, make me another cocktail!

Brian, Brian, Brian.

Don't tell me you're looking into it.  You can't release two volumes and just stop.  Say it isn't so.  All of Dark Shadows got released.  I know you can do it!

Helen, I'm making some serious cocktails right now.

RE: More Peyton Place!!
while it is true that Almost all of Dark Shadows was released on DVD(1 episode had to be recreated), they both come from different companies. Peyton Place is owned by 20th Century while Dark Shadows is owned by the estate of Dan Curtis and licensed to MPI home video.

It takes time to secure the proper licensing for a DVD release and if popular music is involved, it takes even longer and can sometimes scrap a release altogether because of that or necessitate changes to the set such as the opening theme for Married With Children being changed for later seasons, Joan of Arcadia and George Lopez not including opening credits due to the songs used in their openings and not being able to license them.

They say good things come to those who wait. I'm sure once Shout gets the details worked out, a new volume of Peyton Place will appear. It just takes time given all the steps that are involved in securing rights, licensing and such not to mention residuals that may have to be paid out to cast and crew.

There really is a lot more to releasing a TV series on DVD than just transferring it to disc. If it were that simple, perhaps everything would be out on DVD now.

Okay, I'm coming in to update, but PLEASE send any and all responses to THIS thread.  Do NOT create new threads for this topic.  Maintenance on this site is pretty time consuming, when we're just responding to multiple threads on the same topics.  And if you're wondering, I chose this one because it has the largest number of responses.

So...

We have exhausted the number of episodes we licensed from FOX for Peyton Place, which means we don't have the legal authority to proceed from here with more sets, yet.  I say, "yet."  We are currently actively making efforts to secure more episodes of this wonderful series, but deals like this take time.  So don't think we've abandoned it.  We're just trying to get more episodes and can't do anything with the show until we do.

Once again, I'll keep you posted further.

RE: More Peyton Place!!

Why is Fox sitting on episodes they haven't done anything with for nearly 40 years?  It's unlikely they will release the episodes themselves.

I appreciate what Shout has done and are doing, and I know you have no control.  Thanks for the update.  Two releases are better than nothing and I'm glad to have them.  Fox probably wants more money or perhaps the prints are so badly degraded they can't be transferred.

It's not so much that Fox is "sitting" on them.  It costs them money to release the shows, too.  And while the sets have sold well for us, they certainly wouldn't have sold well by Fox's standards (and needs).  And we paid for a certain number of episodes, which we've released.  Now, we're just in the process of trying to negotiate for more episodes.  So, fingers crossed, maybe we can have an update for you soon.

Brian,

Thanks for the update. I will pass this info on to my Mom, who has truly enjoyed seeing these shows for the first time in many, many years. I 've enjoyed watching them myself, great stories and acting. I hope all the details can be worked out and appreciate you letting us know the status.

You've done a great job bringing back many old shows. I particularly enjoyed seeing Room 222 again, and hope there will be more in the future.

Best,

Nick C.

Brian et al-

I too am ready for the third set.  Thanks for giving us an update, letting us know what is up.  I sincerely hope that this show will continue to be released, and that all rights issues will be resolved.

Have you given any thought to a Peyton Place DVD club, similiar to the one that MPI used when releasing Dark Shadows?  If you are given rights to the rest of the episodes, perhaps that will be a way to entice more people to purchase sets.  Of course, extras are also good, and there are many who would love to see the original pilot filmed by Fox, and the reunion special that was on in the early seventies-

Love PP here, and hoping things will be resolved-  Let us know if the fan base can help out in any way-

Jack

Hello I am the founding member of the PEYTON PLACE (1964-1969) THE OFFICIAL FACEBOOK FAN CLUB. Please feel free to enjoy. I have read over the posts and I am waiting and waiting to find out when the next volume is going to be released. I hope SHOUT will purchase a large quantity of the episodes and get this cranking. When is PART 3 coming, please don't make us wait and wait. It seemed to me that even the episodes of THAT GIRL took a considerable time to release. We are talking 514 episodes here and I don't want to be an old man when I get the entire set. Btw the way I am very impressed with the release of this show. I was not around when it was intially released. But I want to encourage all fans of the show to joing our group on FACEBOOK, hopefully it will show SHOUT that future releases are strongly desired.

RE: More Peyton Place!!

Brian, I am little curious. Is there any way that you all can purchase more episodes at a time? I might be naive in this but wouldn't FOX like to make something on it rather than nothing? I am trying to encourage anyone I know to buy the dvds, I just want to know if SHOUT is planning on releasing the entire series. I thought I had read somewhere that you bought the first two years of the show. I take it that is not an accurate statement. Also on the extras of the dvd is there any way to get Barbara Parkins to give an interview and is there any way possible for you to secure the follow-up tv movies to the show.

P.S. Has SHOUT given any thought to purchasing the rights to THE COLBYS, or DYNASTY? Paramount has done a very poor job on releasing the show. Just an idea because I also have fan pages for the shows and people have asked me about THE COLBYS. Btw are you a PR person or what exactly is your liason with SHOUT?

I place my pre-order from Amazon the day part 1 and 2 were offered. I paid 59.99 ( x 32)  for Dark Shadows  and would do the sam efor Peyton Place and Knots Landing.

Thank you guys for the two releases that have been released. If that is all I can get it is better than nothing.

Brian, just please do understand that this is a serial and you are leaving these poor fans hanging on here with unfinished story threads.  You've got to AT LEASE release the episodes up to the finish of the Rodney Harrington trial, which is the fall of the second year on the air and would include the Emmy nominated appearances by Lee Grant.  The fans AT LEAST need to see that much of the show.

I am so thankful that Shout Factory releases these overlooked gems.  I'm currently enjoying my Patty Duke package.

Just let us know anything we can do to support you and convince 20th it is worth the effort!

Thank you for the reply, Brian.  For the bad news, not so much.

Thanks for the advice, but I've had my fingers crossed so long I can't mix a decent martini anymore.  With the way my kids mix them for me, they're so strong even Constance Mackenzie's wig looks straight.  I must blame you for this.

I will light a candle at St Andrews and pray more episodes become available.  Do churches still have candles?  It's been a while.

I think we can all agree Helen might need her own series on DVD. And please, please, PLEASE more Peyton Place, Mr. Brian Shout for the Love Ward! And also, regarding what someone else wrote about Daytime Soaps and how to put those on DVD, honestly a "Best of" DVD set for something as great as Santa Barbara or classic Days of our Lives would be practically worthless. First of all, most real fans have those "Best of" episodes. We've spent years tracking them down. These shows, as told, are a huge goldmine. There are those of us out there that have spent literally (and personally) thousands of dollars to accumulate as many of the old episodes as possible. There is so much money out there for these shows, and Daytimers have received the shaft since the dawn of video -- while more and more primetime shows are released every year. Just some food for thought.

Brian,

Do you think we'll have some news in say, 30 days?  I do need my Peyton Place, however, I thought I would stop hounding you.  I've decided to give up the libations for a while, and yes that includes my nightly dose of Cherry flavored Nyquil.  Actually, I didn't completely  decide myself, as it has a little to do with the department of social services or someplace like that.  While I am away on holiday, please keep me in your thoughts, and don't feel the slightest bit guilty that this is, technically, somewhat your fault.

Have just finished watching the first two DVD sets and can't wait for the third to come out.   And how about, as a bonus feature, adding an episode of the NBC Daytime soap "Return to Peyton Place."   I've never seen this show and it had alot of wonderful soap actors in it.   I know that there are some episode at the UCLA Film and TV Archive, but wonder if 20th Century Fox also has any in its archive.

Appreciate the updates.  We too are waiting to continue the story of Peyton Place.  We hope that the remastered Part 3 will come out eventually.  But if worst comes to worst there are bootlegged "public domain" copies of the entire series out there.  Since I was too young when the original show was on the air, I would like to see what happens.

Keep trying.  I would rather watch a remastered copy of the show to see what happens.  Again, appreciate Shout's efforts.

I also don't understand why there were no extras included on either set? Still haven't been able to wrangle additional episodes from FOX.

As for bonus content, we knew these would be discs packed with episodes and we wanted to take as much of that space as possible for those episodes themselves.  Plus, because this was kind of an experiment to see if a regular-running soap opera formatted show would sell on DVD, the budget for the production was extremely low.  We just didn't have money to go off and shoot new interviews.  Put on top of that the fact that one star was going through some serious legal trouble at the time we were producing the sets and there you have it.

Traditionally, we'd try to put bonus material on the set.  Sadly, not all sets are expected to sell enough to warrant a production budget for those types of things.

Thanks for the patience, guys.  I can say this: While there has been no progress in obtaining additional episodes, we've actually never given up hope or working on getting them.  Our fingers are still crossed and our gang is still trying to make it happen.  While some out there have lost faith, we've not, though that may very well be our downfall.

We love the series and want to continue.  These inquiries and negotiations just take a lot of time occasionally.

Dominic and to the rest of you fantastic Peyton Place Fans. I wondered if you knew about the book by James Rosin  who wrote on the Peyton Place TV series. You can get it at Amazon along with Ed Nelsons Book Beyond Peyton Place. I really enjoyed Rosins book and just received my copy of Ed Nelsons book. I must say I am really delighted and lucky to find such a group of dedicated Peyton Place fans. I have enjoyed reading all the posts that are here. Brians knows how much I love Peyton Place and I am sure an extra voice of support will be welcomed by him.  I warn everyone however my post's generally can be long. Sorry, guys.  Unfortunately, the first two volumes didn't sell well enough for us to justify paying MORE for licensing additional episodes and they don't seem to be interested in giving us additional episodes for the same price or less.  We may be at a bit of a stand off.

Sorry, guys.  Unfortunately, the first two volumes didn't sell well enough for us to justify paying MORE for licensing additional episodes and they don't seem to be interested in giving us additional episodes for the same price or less.  We may be at a bit of a stand off.

For now, anyway.  My fingers are always crossed.  Especially for Helen Lawson!

RE: More Peyton Place!!
Brian how much more money are we talking about? Shoot, we can have fundraisers and raise the needed money for licensing.  I think there's enough of an interest in Peyton Place for this to  happen.   All of the bloggers on this site alone can hold fundraising events.  How MUCH are we talking about.  We can't have a little thing like money stop us from completing our Peyton Place library.  We could have a huge fundraising event.  PP is worth it.  Get back to us Brian ASAP and let's get this thing moving.  Let's not be defeated. We live in America where ALL things are possible!  COME ON!   LET'S GO!!!

Brian, is this a lost cause?
Just say it, is it very unlikely that we will see another Shout! PP release?

RE: More Peyton Place!!

How about this as a suggestion to Fox. Why don't they put the entire series out as one huge box set, or 2 box sets as a "Limited Editon" set, number them too, especially since there's 514 episodes so that the true die hard fans like myself, can finally own this series, log, stock & barrel and be done with it. The episodes released on DVD are far superior to what they lent out to Romance Classics back in 1997-1998. Fox's prints were so clear & sharp that it enhances the viewing pleasure. Fortunately for me, I recorded the series back then through a satellite dish on high speed & a friend of mine transfered them to DVD & what condition they aired through Romance Classics is what I have & the color episodes look splendid too, like it was shot yesterday. Taping this show daily took a year & 3 months to complete & I didn't miss one episode & everything was recorded in sequence!!!! :)

RE: More Peyton Place!!

Fans you all have great ideas but why not post at "The Home Theater Forum" on the Peyton Place/Dallas thread.  We need your support. Studios read the post's over there I know this for a fact.  Even Shout's "Mr Cliff Mac" posts on the forum from time to time.  He even answered the ultimate question on Peyton Place. The show did not sell well for Shout.  The other folks who have looked at the series I cannot mention.  Please go to the forum and show your support. The firstr is the current thread. The second thread has the most hits.shttp://www.hometheaterforum.com/forum/thread/201798/with-dallas-on-dvd-why-not-the-one-that-began-it-all-peyton-place/60#post_3783214  http://www.hometheaterforum.com/forum/thread/282558/my-dream-came-true-peyton-place-on-dvd-this-may-from-shout-entertainment   Please join us at HTF.  The UK even has a current thread which is posted in the above two threads.

Dave thankyou for joining the bandwagon.  I wish Brian would come here and give us fans an update on the future of the show.  I once again say to fans join us at the Peyton Place/ Dallas thread or the Peyton Place thread at the link provided in my last post the Home Theater Forum.  Helen joined us and i thank her very much for doing so.  We need all the support we can get to let Fox know that we want more release's of this excellent show.

Brian what is the latest word on Peyton Place???

RE: More Peyton Place!!

I just wanted to post as i did on HTF today when we had two new members join HTF due to Peyton Place.

Brian thankyou for taking time out to answer all my emails in 2010 on Peyton Place.  You were very kind to do so and could have just not answered them at all or had someone else do the job.  So once again I thankyou Mr Ward.

The rest of you guys love to have you posting on the Peyton/Dallas thread or just the Peyton thread as Helen did.  We have been using the Dallas/Peyton thread because of the new Dallas Series and i could throw out a tid bit on Peyton Place at the end.  See the link posted in my above post's for HTF.

RE: More Peyton Place!!

Thankyou Shout!Factory for the quick response to my email on Peyton Place.  I am sorry of course that you cannot release more episdoes in the future.  I want thankyou for what you did release.  Peyton Place may get picked up by some other company. The only reason that would happen is because of the 2 release's you gave the show. I have also reprinted some of your email at the Home Theater Forum because I thought you really explained your postion well.

Thankyou again

I still keep wishing Shout! Select was MOD instead of fully-produced. Warner does a much better job on it than Shout ever will. In fact, with Warner archives, sales don't have to be so high in order for a series to continue.

I don't believe this is the real Brian Ward folks, check out his "Member Since", it says 7/18/11 which is today.  I think we got ourselves an imposter.  He's been posting all kinds of questionable stuff on these boards today.

Hey SHOUT FACTORY, you guys might want to clean up this problem before this imposter gives you and the real Brian a bad name.

Liar.  Besides the obvious wrong member since date, your writing is nothing like Brian's.  Don't be such a moron, find something better to do with your time.

RE: More Peyton Place!!

I want to reply to you and the many other fans. The dummy to be polite who wrote things coming from Brian well let me end there.  The hoax did bring about attention to Peyton Place. I have been asking over and over again for fans that post here at Shout or read them to please join HTF and express your opinions where they will do the most good.

HTF is read by all the companies who release TV Series like Peyton Place.  Fox studios has even posted there as has Shout.  I will not deny that Brian if you read this wish some deal could be worked out between you and Fox to get Peyton Place back on track.

I know do I believe in fairy tales too!  Yes i do and love Disney Classics and have them all.

Here once again fans is the current Peyton Thread at HTF. You can also find both threads in an older post here that i made. I choose the thread I am using now at HTF because it is a Dallas/Peyton thread which helps to expand the fan base and maybe generate more posts for each of the shows

Thank you Fans and let us hope for a new release of this great show!!!
