Don't tell me you're looking into it. You can't release two volumes and just stop. Say it isn't so. All of Dark Shadows got released. I know you can do it!
Helen, I'm making some serious cocktails right now. |

Member since: 8/21/2009 | | RE: More Peyton Place!! | while it is true that Almost all of Dark Shadows was released on DVD(1 episode had to be recreated), they both come from different companies. Peyton Place is owned by 20th Century while Dark Shadows is owned by the estate of Dan Curtis and licensed to MPI home video.
It takes time to secure the proper licensing for a DVD release and if popular music is involved, it takes even longer and can sometimes scrap a release altogether because of that or necessitate changes to the set such as the opening theme for Married With Children being changed for later seasons, Joan of Arcadia and George Lopez not including opening credits due to the songs used in their openings and not being able to license them.
They say good things come to those who wait. I'm sure once Shout gets the details worked out, a new volume of Peyton Place will appear. It just takes time given all the steps that are involved in securing rights, licensing and such not to mention residuals that may have to be paid out to cast and crew.
There really is a lot more to releasing a TV series on DVD than just transferring it to disc. If it were that simple, perhaps everything would be out on DVD now. |

Member since: 1/12/2007 | | RE: More Peyton Place!! | Okay, I'm coming in to update, but PLEASE send any and all responses to THIS thread. Do NOT create new threads for this topic. Maintenance on this site is pretty time consuming, when we're just responding to multiple threads on the same topics. And if you're wondering, I chose this one because it has the largest number of responses.
So...
We have exhausted the number of episodes we licensed from FOX for Peyton Place, which means we don't have the legal authority to proceed from here with more sets, yet. I say, "yet." We are currently actively making efforts to secure more episodes of this wonderful series, but deals like this take time. So don't think we've abandoned it. We're just trying to get more episodes and can't do anything with the show until we do.
Once again, I'll keep you posted further.
Brian

Member since: 2/22/2009 | | RE: More Peyton Place!! | Why is Fox sitting on episodes they haven't done anything with for nearly 40 years? It's unlikely they will release the episodes themselves.
I appreciate what Shout has done and are doing, and I know you have no control. Thanks for the update. Two releases are better than nothing and I'm glad to have them. Fox probably wants more money or perhaps the prints are so badly degraded they can't be transferred. |

Member since: 1/12/2007 | | RE: More Peyton Place!! | It's not so much that Fox is "sitting" on them. It costs them money to release the shows, too. And while the sets have sold well for us, they certainly wouldn't have sold well by Fox's standards (and needs). And we paid for a certain number of episodes, which we've released. Now, we're just in the process of trying to negotiate for more episodes. So, fingers crossed, maybe we can have an update for you soon.

Thanks for the update. I will pass this info on to my Mom, who has truly enjoyed seeing these shows for the first time in many, many years. I 've enjoyed watching them myself, great stories and acting. I hope all the details can be worked out and appreciate you letting us know the status.
You've done a great job bringing back many old shows. I particularly enjoyed seeing Room 222 again, and hope there will be more in the future.
Best,
Nick C. |

I too am ready for the third set. Thanks for giving us an update, letting us know what is up. I sincerely hope that this show will continue to be released, and that all rights issues will be resolved.
Have you given any thought to a Peyton Place DVD club, similiar to the one that MPI used when releasing Dark Shadows? If you are given rights to the rest of the episodes, perhaps that will be a way to entice more people to purchase sets. Of course, extras are also good, and there are many who would love to see the original pilot filmed by Fox, and the reunion special that was on in the early seventies-
Love PP here, and hoping things will be resolved- Let us know if the fan base can help out in any way-

I have read over the posts and I am waiting and waiting to find out when the next volume is going to be released. I hope SHOUT will purchase a large quantity of the episodes and get this cranking. When is PART 3 coming, please don't make us wait and wait. It seemed to me that even the episodes of THAT GIRL took a considerable time to release. We are talking 514 episodes here and I don't want to be an old man when I get the entire set. Btw the way I am very impressed with the release of this show. I was not around when it was intially released. But I want to encourage all fans of the show to joing our group on FACEBOOK, hopefully it will show SHOUT that future releases are strongly desired.

Member since: 10/2/2009 | | RE: More Peyton Place!! | Brian, I am little curious. Is there any way that you all can purchase more episodes at a time? I might be naive in this but wouldn't FOX like to make something on it rather than nothing? I am trying to encourage anyone I know to buy the dvds, I just want to know if SHOUT is planning on releasing the entire series. I thought I had read somewhere that you bought the first two years of the show. I take it that is not an accurate statement. Also on the extras of the dvd is there any way to get Barbara Parkins to give an interview and is there any way possible for you to secure the follow-up tv movies to the show.
P.S. Has SHOUT given any thought to purchasing the rights to THE COLBYS, or DYNASTY? Paramount has done a very poor job on releasing the show. Just an idea because I also have fan pages for the shows and people have asked me about THE COLBYS. Btw are you a PR person or what exactly is your liason with SHOUT? |

Thank you guys for the two releases that have been released. If that is all I can get it is better than nothing.

Member since: 7/14/2009 | | RE: More Peyton Place!! | Brian, just please do understand that this is a serial and you are leaving these poor fans hanging on here with unfinished story threads. You've got to AT LEASE release the episodes up to the finish of the Rodney Harrington trial, which is the fall of the second year on the air and would include the Emmy nominated appearances by Lee Grant. The fans AT LEAST need to see that much of the show.
I am so thankful that Shout Factory releases these overlooked gems. I'm currently enjoying my Patty Duke package.
Just let us know anything we can do to support you and convince 20th it is worth the effort! |
