How about the two 1962-63 season shows that used the rodeo as a backdrop for some great dramatic storytelling?
"Stoney Burke" starred a pre-"Hawaii Five-0" Jack Lord as the title character and had a great supporting cast including Bruce Dern, Warren Oates, and Bob Dowdell (Chip Morton on "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea"). The show was made by Leslie Stevens' Daystar Productions, the same company that produced the classic version of "The Outer Limits." Oscar winning cinematographer Conrad Hall was the Director of Photography and music for the series was composed by Dominic Frontiere. This is a real "lost" gem that deserves rediscovery. Originally produced for United Artists, MGM currently owns the rights.
"Wide Country" starred Earl Holliman ("Police Woman") and Andrew Prine as Mitch and Andy Guthrie who travel the rodeo circuit across the United States. Another "lost" dramatic gem that has a "Route 66" feel to it and boasts theme music composed by Johnny "John" Williams. Holliman did some terrific episode commentary for "Police Woman" season 1 and Prine is very much around and it would be great to hear them reminisce about the show. A Revue Studios production owned currently by Universal.
