TV Movie - "Don't Go to Sleep" with Valerie Harper
This is yet another great suspense TV movie that aired on television in 1982 and has seen a VHS release (now out of print) many, many years ago.  The movie starred Dennis Weaver, Valerie Harper, and Ruth Gordon.  This is one movie that I am firmly in support of having a DVD release with bonus features.  A read a blog on a message board (not this site) there might some sort of remake to this movie, but I am not quite sure how reliable that info is.  Shout! Factory released Rhoda - Season One.  Why not release this incredibly well-made and incredibly creepy TV movie!!

Any word from Shout! Factory on investigating the potential release of this great TV movie onto DVD?  I thought maybe with Shout! releasing Rhoda, that they would be interested in acquiring the rights and releasing this movie starring Valerie Harper.  Come on, Brian!  Any thoughts or ideas on this?

I like Sledge Hammer too but find it funny how much Alan Spencer hates Mr Belvedere.  Mr Belvedere is a much better show in my opinion and hopefully Alan Spencer is eating his heart out that there is more Mr Belvedere on DVD than Sledge Hammer.  He said in his Sledge Hammer commentaries on the DVD sets that Mr Belvedere DVD sets would be burned if they were ever released because nobody would buy them .

Anyway back on topic, if you ever have the chance to check out Don't Go To Sleep you should.  I really hope Shout! can release it.

My sentiments and support as well for this TV movie to be released on DVD.  In regards to The Babysitter,  I started a separate thread for that movie and did get a response from Brian Ward.  He stated that he would pass this one along, I'm supposing to their acqusitions department, because they have a relationship with two of the stars, Patty Duke and William Shatner.  Here's hoping that Shout! will deliver both The Babysitter and Don't Go To Sleep on DVD with bonus material.

I would love to see it released by Shout! but I think its owned by Warner Brothers.  That's a problem because they don't license their titles out.  Unfortunately if it is owned by them probably the best we can hope for is an archive release.

You are accurate.  Warner Bros and Aaron Spelling were the original production companies for this movie.  And you're right about WB licensing their property out (doesn't happen).  I'm not that thrilled with the WB archive releases, simply because they are barebone releases and they typically do not even restore or remaster the film before putting it on DVD.  Here's hoping for a miracle on this one.  If WB does release it some day, I pray it's remastered with bonus materials.

I'm with you Preppy, but I think we both know how highly unlikely that is.  As much as I wouldn't want this to be an archive release, that's probably the only way it will ever happen.  The only title I have from their archive is The Bermuda Depths.  Although not remastered, it certainly looks a lot better than the crappy multigenerational VHS copy I had.  It's also uncut.  Yes, I'd much rather have had an actual DVD release but I honetly thought I'd never see an offical release of the title so I was still happy.  If that movie can come out, hopefully Don't Go To Sleep can too.

I know there's another thread for The Babysitter, but I think it's owned by MGM if I'm not mistaken.  If so, Shout! could probably get their hands on it.

Quite possibly with this new relationship between Shout! and WB, fans will not only see Warner owned TV shows licensed to and released by Shout!, but also TV movies as well!  Like the incredibly creepy, incredibly good Don't Go To Sleep!

My hope is that Shout! can negotiate the licensing of this great movie from WB and release it, saving it from a Warner Archive release,  and giving it the high quality treatment it deserves!

I loved this movie and it's great to see other people who remember it too.  I'd like to add my voice as someone else who would immediately buy this one if it were ever to show up on DVD.  I can still hear Ruth Gordon's voice in my head explaining to Dennis Weaver how simple it would be for him to make her a "Sidecar!"

It has been three months since the last post to this thread I began, so I thought I would bring it back to the top again for consideration.  Any thoughts or ideas in regards to acquiring this TV movie and releasing it for the first time on a special edition DVD, restored and remastered with bonus features?

Here's another vote for this classic TV chiller, unfortunately two of the stars are no longer with us but hopefully an official DVD will still see the light of day. I've always felt anyway, with so many classic 70s and 80s TV movies made this would be the next big DVD thing companies should throw themselves over, and what better than the horror/suspense genre...

"No...that's impossible...".

According to a twitter post from the Warner Archive, in response to someone who asked about this movie, WB doesn't hold the rights.  Aaron Spelling does.

Please bring "Starman" the 1986-87 tv series, Silver Spoons seasons 2 & beyond and Jennifer Slept Here to DVD.

Since this property is owned by Aaron Spelling Productions, I wonder how easy or difficult it would be to acquire, now that Aaron Spelling has passed away.  PLEASE look into this one, Shout! Factory.

It has been quite a while since I have posted to this thread I began back in 2009 and just thought I would check in with Shout! to find out if this is a movie they have any interest in pursuing for a first time DVD release.

I thought I would bump this back to the top to generate interest and awareness of this truly great psychological thriller TV movie.  Any thoughts or ideas (or news) in regards to acquiring this film and releasing it on a first time DVD?

I thought I would bump this thread to the top again in the hopes that Shout! Factory will acquire this title and release it on a special edition DVD and/or Blu-Ray.  I watched some of the scenes from it on You Tube the other day and remembered just how much I LOVE this TV movie.

Spelling Entertainment has since been absorbed into CBS Television Studios (Viacom), so CBS would most likely now own the rights to "Don't Go to Sleep."
