It stars actor Donald Pleasance and actress Nancy Allen as "commentators/hosts", sitting among a theater of moviegoers. Clips of numerous horror, science fiction, and suspense movies are viewed and commented on. It was a novel approach to a somewhat documentary style movie that was very entertaining. This title has seen a VHS release back in 1985, but no DVD as of yet. I believe Universal distributed the movie to theaters, but I think the DVD rights might be in public domain. This is a classic I strongly hope that Shout! Factory will look into releasing on DVD if the rights are up for grabs! |

I realize that even if this is a title that Shout! acquired and released that it likely would not happen this year. However, it would be awesome if it was released next year, maybe around Halloween. This is a film that my friends and I always watched on Halloween night! |

Factory has begun producing and releasing other horror/suspense movies from the 80's and I want to really push for this movie to be added to that list! It has never seen a DVD release and I know fans of this cult classic will be ecstatic to finally have it on a quality DVD. This is one that I will appreciate having and re-experiencing over and over again!! |

I'm guessing getting the rights to ALL those films included in the movie will prevent this from ever coming out. A shame. Great, great film.

However, my question is, would a company who released this same film on DVD have to secure the clearance rights, even though they obviously have been secured already when it was released on VHS? Does it depend on if it is a separate company that releases the DVD, than the original one that released it on videotape? A high quality DVD of this documentary-style film would be an absolute outstanding addition to my DVD collection! |

I loved this movie and used to watch it over & over with my friends back in high school. My VHS copy is long gone and would love to own a high quality remastered copy on DVD! |

They doubtlessly cleared all the clips for home video and TV, but there was no clause for future mediums at that time. Which means they'd have to relicense all the rights... which I'm sure is cost-prohibitive. Honestly, I don't expect to ever see an official disc release of this one. |
