Patty Duke Show trivia

One thing to notice when watching the episodes, Patty's slang language changed as the series went on. In the early episodes from the first season, whenever Patty thought something was cool she'd say- "cookoo!" In the second season, she'd say stuff like "gung ho!" or "twisty!" By the third season, she'd say "isn't that the end?"

Also, the dog the family had during the first season, I don't know what happened to the dog but they dropped it from the show by the later episodes of the first season. Perhaps the dog was difficult to train for TV so they scrapped the idea, I know this is what happened with Get Smart as Fang was eventually dropped from the show.

In the unaired pilot, the series was set in San Francisco.  Also, Cathy told the stewardess on the plane that she was born in Boston.

RE: Patty Duke Show trivia
Watching these episodes again, they are a rather fascinating "time capsule" piece for early 60's pop culture, such as popular musicians of the time that are mentioned like Paul Anka,  the girls watching "The Jimmy Dean Show", and Frankie Avalon's appearance in Cathy's dream.
Bertram Bristol was a fictional singer who owed his look and nickname "The Mop" to the Beatles (and was very poorly lip-synching to "Open Up Your Heart" in "Leave it to Patty").
Patty and her friends also liked to dance "The Mashed Potato" (mistakenly referred to as "The Baked Potato" by Cathy!) and "The Hammer", and of course there was Patty's part-time job at the "Shake Shop", the obligatory malt shop for the kids to hang out at.
Patty's slang is one of the most fun parts of the shows.  She certainly had an amusing way of talking.  The space program's influence on pop culture can be felt in some of Patty's slang, like "You're in orbit!" and "It was a blast!  Martian Green!"

You're being too kind to Bertram Bristol. His lip-synching was terrible.
