Possible cartoon releases?
I know Shout! was basically the old "Rhino" label that put out GI Joe out on dvd years back. And i know Shout since is owned by Sony in some way or another has a lot of the rights to DIC cartoons. Shout needs to put out The Real Ghostbusters, M.A.S.K., Cowboys of Moo Mesa, Super Mario World/Captain N:season 3, Silverhawks(Not DIC), and they need to re-release the whole G.I. Joe cartoons again, because the released only 3 box sets and never fineshed before Rhino got bought out. Also they need to put out Robocop:the animated series, and finesh releasing the rest of C.O.P.S.

RE: Possible cartoon releases?

Actually Shout isn't owned by Sony, they only distributed the stuff until now (Shout's moving to Vivendi-Universal). Let's see (I have answered a similar post underneath but quickly):

The Real Ghostbusters - Columbia has the rights to the series.
M.A.S.K - Hasbro is not giving Shout the rights to release the series, Brian Ward (producer of Shout Factory) has asked before but with no results. May happen - just needs some luck.
Cowboys of Moo Mesa - Don't know about that one. May not have the rights.
Captain N and the New Super Mario World - DiC has to clean some rights about Yoshi first but the most likely to come out given time.
Silverhawks - Was that done by the same guys as Thundercats? If so, WB has rights to that.
Robocop - Unsure about that. Most likely don't have rights.

As for G.I.Joe, Sony Wonder (who brought out the Transformers: The Movie DVD and went bust) had no plans to do this or Transformers. If Shout does the series though, it will be done right with the PSAs and stuff that Rhino did wrong plus the "DiC" series. I hope whoever has the series does a good job (just that I had issues with their animation studio - long story) and Shout will be a good choice. May not have rights you see.

C.O.P.S. just needs more people buying the boxset which Shout Factory may finish the series depending on sales. (There's a petition going around, about 100 have signed up). Sometimes it pays to be a regular and read everything from here Captain N, Ultimate Warp Zone, FUS for info that may not have in the other sites. Should help you.

RE: Possible cartoon releases?

Yeah I had never really been sure about who owned Shout, how it was linked to Sony, etc. Yeah as far as i know WB which owned and put out Thundercats owns Silverhawks as well, WB needs to put out Silverhawks. As far as GI Jow is concerned, i think when Rhino put it out they were in digi-pack yes? And Shout was doing really good digi-pack dvds until Super Mario Bros vol. 2, Captain N, and Sonic they started doing slim case(a.k.a given it the shaft), I know because it's cheaper to make it that way. I will give companies like BCI (he-man, she-ra, D&D) credit they at least do good digi-packs still. But if Shout put out GI Joe, would Shout most likely do it in slim case? I mean G.I. Joe was one of the defining cartoons of the 80's, you cant let GI Joe dvd's grace a slim case, thats like taking a bath manure, you just dont do it you know.

On the DVD from Sony Wonder for the Transformers Movie they said that in 2007 the Transformers G1 series was getting re-released.

This might sound dumb, since they made that short lived robocop cartoon back in the late 80's, I think it would have been cool if someone had made a Robocop vs. Terminator cartoon in the early 90's when the comics came out, that and possbly made a cartoon based on Aliens, that would have been cool.

RE: Possible cartoon releases?

They did make a Robocop versus Terminator video game for Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo. I had the one for Genesis. It was cool, and bloody too! It was like Contra times 4!

As for an animated series based on Robocop vs. Terminator and Aliens, I'm sorry but I don't think they would work as Saturday morning fair. Maybe as a late night adult HBO TV series like Spawn but definitely not for the kids. Robocop worked as a cartoon for kids, but I don't think Terminator and Aliens could have made the transition. They were just too dark for that kind of thing. And besides, parent groups and media watchdogs were not about to let chestbursters be featured on Fox Kids. It would have been branded far too violent for children.

yeah i know about the game i used to rent it a lot for my sega, it was good. Yeah i know robocop vs. terminator or aliens wouldnt have worked for Sat morning toons, but yeah something like an HBO Spawn would have been cool, yeah it was too violent , but I kinda grew up on aliens, i had seen Alien and Aliens by the time i was 7 or 8 years old(i was born in '81) so i was so into aliens, and i remember playing the awesome Aliens Konami arcade back in 1990, and there were Aliens toys too, although many of the toys did hold true to the movie.

I first rented the movie when I was 10 and I remember having the toys and playing the games too. You know, the whole thing is kind of funny now when you think about it. Toys and games based on an a series of R rated movies that were marketed to children. Back then media watchdogs weren't as tenacious as they are now, so it was actually up to the parents to decide if it was appropriate for their child. Unlike how it is now where we have to shelter our fragile offspring from guys in monster suits and karo syrup with red food coloring.
