Duet/Open House
Two offbeat little gems from Fox, Duet 87-89 and Open House (its spinoff) 89-90. The latter is particularly interesting for being the first major network exposure of a then-unknown Ellen Degeneres. Not to mention the late, great impressionist Danny Gans. But the chemistry between the leads Allison Laplaca and Phillip Charles McKenzie (married in real life) was really something--in alternate universe, it could have been a Cheers. But Duet, though a totally different show, is just as worthy....a very non-traditional and almost lyrical (at least in season one) romantic comedy that seems so presciently ahead of its time....bring them out, please!
