Nelvanamation

Long before Nelvana made a name for themselves with films like Rock and Rule and The Care Bears Movie and cartoons like The Care Bears, My Friend Rabbit and Beetlejuice, Nelvana was an independent animation studio

The studio produced a number of specials under commission by the Canadian Broadcasting Company but, during the VHS era.. the specials came stateside in a series of tapes called "Nelvanamation"

The following are the "Nelvanamation" cartoons

- The Devil and Daniel Mouse (The main inspiration for the cult film "Rock & Rule")

- The Jack Rabbit Story (aka Spring Fever)

- Please Don't Eat This Planet (otherwise known as "Intergalactic Thanksgiving")

- Take Me Up To The Ballgame

- Romie-0 and Julie-8

and, A Cosmic Christmas

These cartoons have never seen the light of day in the DVD market plus the Nelvanamation VHS tapes are currently out of print and rare (hard to find), even though The Devil and Daniel Mouse did become a special feature of the Rock and Rule DVD, they had to censor it at the time of the death of Pope John Paul the 2nd

I think Shout! Factory should bring the Nelvanamation cartoons back on DVD and give them the respect they deserve

for those who think i'm being delusional

here's some samples

RE: Nelvanamation

B.Ward, sir. I insist that you release the Nelvanamation cartoons on DVD (including the uncut version of "The Devil and Daniel Mouse"). I can assure you there IS a market for these cartoons, and the 2 markets are the Retro/Classic Animation crowd and the Baby Boomer crowd

Sure, to you it maybe a gamble but look at Tatsunoko vs. Capcom - people doubted it will come stateside and yet it did and as of now, It's getting raving reviews!

So you see by giving the Nelvanamations great care (Excellent Picture Quality, Not a hint of DVNR in sight, etc.) you'll find that your company might get something good in the end.

RE: Nelvanamation

Since the Nelvanimation VHS tapes came out on Warner Home Video, I suspect somewhere down the line, Warner Archives will put these out as MOD releases. But Shout would give it the treatment it deserves. Of course, since these posts are a year old, I suspect they aren't seeking out a way to make that happen.

"A Cosmic Christmas" (1977) is a family favourite of mine. I'd get that without a doubt!. I see a lot of interest for it on the web too.

Speaking of Nelvana, I really would love to see The Edison Twins out on dvd too!

I wish they would release these gems. Especially a holiday box set would be awesome.  They deserve to see the light of day and be put on dvd or bluray.

RE: Nelvanamation
I'm in favor! I have the "Four Cosmic Fantasies in One" on BETA - that's right - BETA LOL.  My sister and I have wanted to see it for years, but who has a beta machine, right. I'd love to watch this and share with my daughter.
