Another Jayce Vol. 2 post
I bought Jayce Vol. 1 from Best Buy on day 1.  About 4 years ago I discovered that JMS had written the show.  I remembered watching it when I was a kid and I remember really really liking it.

So I went a little nuts trying to find the show so I could watch it again.  After a lot of digging and scavenging, I ended up with two different bootleg versions of the series and the complete series on DVD in French.  I was actually in the process of trying to mux the French DVD video stream with English audio from the bootleg (which wasn't ideal because the audio in several episodes was practically unusable).  I was that desperate to see a watchable version of this series.  Then the NCircle "Escape From the Garden of Evil" release was announced.  So I pre-ordered it from Amazon and stopped work on my own personal DVD set, hoping that someone else might pick it up and release the whole series similar to what happened with Super Mario Bros.  And SF did not disappoint.  So I wanted to give a big thanks to SF for releasing Vol. 1 and mention my support for Vol. 2.

Have you guys ever considered letting us rabid fans put our money where our mouths are?  Anybody can come here and post on this page about how they'll buy a gazillion copies of something when it is released and how they pledge their undying support.  But if you offer a system where people can pre-order stuff you're considering making (Like Jayce Vol. 2 for example) you can put up a little chart or something saying that when pre-orders get to X amount then you'll commit to actually making it.  That way fans have a clear understanding of what they can expect from you, and you'll have a clear understanding of how much of this fanboyism translates into actual sales.  It could also function as a word of mouth advertising campaign - we'd get to see if people claiming that they spoke for 10k other people (I actually saw this claim on a post here) really did.  Fans would bug their friends to commit to a pre-order to drive the number of pre-orders up to move up the release date.

There are a few details that would need to be ironed out, of course - like you'd probably have to call it something other than pre-ordering to avoid confusion, and you'd probably have to charge "pledgers" up front to ensure that no one tried to game the system by placing bogus orders to fake demand, and then agree to pay them back in a year or so if you didn't ultimately make the product.  But I think the idea is clear.

RE: Another Jayce Vol. 2 post
There are a lot of details that would honestly have to be worked out.  We can't accept money for product that hasn't been produced, so taking "orders" would be out of the question.  And people simply "committing" to buy something down the road is about as useful as a petition.  Anyone can say they're gonna rush out and buy a bazillion copies of something, but unless they actually do it, we're left in the awkward position of re-evaluating the title's value.

Sadly, a second volume of Jayce & The Wheeled Warriors at this particular juncture would cost us more than we'd make.  And anyone who's ever seen Gordan Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares knows that's extremely bad (sorry... I've been addicted to the show for the past couple weeks via my DVR).

We are looking into alternatives, however.  There are ways of getting the show out there for fans, but we have to figure out which options are best for Shout! Factory.  Perhaps with the success of the Transformers and G.I. Joe sets, people will flock to our site looking for other nostalgic treasures, such as Jayce.

RE: Another Jayce Vol. 2 post
I, like many others, have been patiently waiting for Jayce Volume 2. Now, it seems as though SF has no immediate plans to finish the series. That completely bums me out and it also upsets me as a loyal consumer who purchases (and looks forward to) SF releases. Originally, fans of the series recommended that the entire show be released as a complete set. However, we were told that it wasn't cost effective for SF to put out such a release. So, now how come Transformers and G.I. Joe both get a complete series boxed set as well as individual season boxed sets? I simply can't fathom how a 6 or 7 disc Jayce set wouldn't be made versus a 16-disc Transformers set (which I did pre-order/purchase). Well, it is too late for that now. I also do understand that this is a perfect time for SF to capitalize on the motion picture success of Transformers and G.I. Joe (which is probably justification for producing the complete series boxed sets as well as the individual seasons). I do want to say one thing though. This is also a good time to release Jayce Volume 2. How come? Well, consumers are simply asking for it. I don't know how it could get more clear than that?

Also, i'm not sure if any advertising was done to promote Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors Set 1. Most of my friends had no clue a set was even released.

Transformers and GI Joe were among the most popular cartoons of the 80's so making big sets for them would be much less of a risk. Jayce, while a good show, was one of the lesser known shows of the time period. So unless sales pick up for Jayce Vol. 1, making more sets might actually hurt Shout rather than help them. Also advertising costs quite a bit of money, and Shout is a relatively small company when compared to companies like Funimation. I always keep my fingers crossed though.

Well, for what it's worth I'm in the process of re-posting higher quality version of my Multimedia Chronicles episodes.   Among those getting upgraded will be my 3-part review of Jayce.  Hopefully that will help bring some more attention to it...
