Captain Power and the Soldiers of The Future

Another show from the 80s that Shout should consider. This is classic SF show created by SCi Fi legend J. Michael Straczynski

This show is pretty dark, the intro and title make it look cheesier than it is. It lasted for one season and 22 episodes so it would be quite easly to release

LOVED this show.  If Shout picks it up, I can contribute quite a lot in the way of bonus material, and would be delighted to do so.

The show was good but do you still have the toys to go along with the show.

Yep, I still have all the toys.  I've got the Powerjet XT-7, the Phantom Striker, The Interlocker and the Power On Set.  I also have a few of the action figures.

I seem to remember that the toys weren't absolutely necessary to enjoy the series, but it was such an interactive show... Any fan of the series would almost want to have a working set of toys to play along.

I can think of a lot I'd do, in terms of bonus content, but do you think there's a big enough audience out there?

Brian all 22 episodes are have been uploaded on torrent sites (poor TV rips) since 2006 and they are still being downloaded massivly, so i guess there might be a good niche   classic SCI FI market

And no you don't need the toys , this show is perfectly watchable without them. If you decide to watch it youself the first 4-5 episodes are kinda childish but after 8-9 it becomes really serious and dark.

If you decide to get it I guess a 2-3 DVD set is enought (each episode is about 21-22 min) and you should advertise it from the creator of Babylon 5  and put a picture of Jessica Steen (lead actress) on the cover  :D:D. And Sauron too, he was the first fool CGI character ever.

I would love to get the entire season of Captain Power on DVD.  I have a few episodes on VHS but would love the entire series!

Another vote for this if you include the movie they made after the series.

I've never been able to find a copy anywhere but I keep reading about it's existance.

I did it for the kicks!

I would LOVE to own this on DVD.  With all the Babylon 5 fans out there, I'm sure many of them would pick it up as well.

I think there would be considerable demand, for a few reasons.

First, the show was VERY popular when it was on - the only reason it was cancelled was because the toys were overpriced and didn't sell well, not because of low ratings.  Since Mattel's funding was a big part of the budget for the show, when they pulled the toys the show went with it...even though the show itself was a success in every other respect, both commercially and critically.

Second, J. Michael Straczynski of Babylon 5 fame was the story editor and main writer for the show, and that is main reason the stories were so engaging in the first place.  He developed a detailed story arc that was to span several seasons, and the latter 2-thirds of the produced seasons really show just how epic it was going to be.  Fans of his work who haven't seen it (along with those who have) would be very interested to see this early dark sci-fi series from one of their favorite authors.

Third, I used to be quite active in the tape trading community before the days of TV on DVD and can honestly tell you that Captain Power was the set I got the most requests for out of everything I had up for grabs back then.  Cadillacs and Dinosaurs was a close second...but that's another story for another time.  It has bene a consistent favorite from many other fan-based sources as well (torrent sites, and even the unofficial set permitted by Gary Goddard to be offered at one of the larger fansites)

And no, you didn't need the toys to enjoy the show.  The "interactivity" consisted of shooting at flashing targets during the battle scenes of the episodes, with your score being tallied by the toy gun.  The show itself was a dark, post-apocalyptic sci-fi epic that could be enjoyed by pretty much all ages.  My dad would often sit down and watch it with me, something he rarely did with any of the other shows I watched at the time.

I think if marketed properly (and you can bet I'll shout to the heavens about it if it gets announced!), it could do quite well.  Plus I have a ton of bonus material I could contribute for extras, including most of the original toy commercials and several limited edition tie-in videos (in the event that the original masters of those videos are no longer available).  Roughly 70 minutes' worth of extra material in total.  Plus I've been in sporadic contact with one of the kids (now a producer) from the original toy commercials, so it should be relatively simple to get permission to keep the kids' faces unblurred for the ads.

So in short, YES!  Could be a great set, and I think it would be very popular.
