The new DVD Set of Peyton Place
I never resopnd to any forums like this. But I felt I had to in the case of Peyton Place and these new DVD's by Shout! Factory. I have watched the first set and I am anxiously awaiting the next one. I want Shout! Factory to know how much I love this series, how much I want this series, and how I have wanted to see this series for the last twenty years. Just so you know, I am a 40 year old frustrated graphic desinger, not one of the original fans from the 60's. I have been a fan of the whole idea of Peyton Place for over 15 years, and this series is finally filling in for me the greatest missing piece of the whole phenomenon. I heard a rumor that Shout! Factory is to release the color episodes in one DVD set. Is this true? and, if so, will that move insure the entire series be released? I just hope there are enough people interested in this series that it remains cost effective for Shout! to release the whole thing. It would also be my hope that as a set would be released to contain the shows "Peyton Place Revisited (1973)" and the TV Movies "Murder in Peyton Place (1977)" and "Peyton Place: The Next Generation (1985)" , effectively the "end" of "The Continuing Story of Peyton Place". I'm sure daytime soap "Return to Peyton Place (1972-1974)" would be too much to ask. Nonetheless, Thank You Shout! Factory for releasing Peyton Place. I will be awaiting the release of Part 2 and all the subsequent sets. Please keep those of us who are fans of the show abreast of any developments with the coming DVD's. Thank you, Bill Harris

RE: The new DVD Set of Peyton Place

I'm awaiting feedback from other TV classic fans.  This show is so unique and needs to be seen and appreciated.  This is not a "soap" with dueling divas throwing each other in the pool.  This show has solid actors and real acting.  I would say the only modern seriallized show that has matched this kind of writing quality is Gilmore Girls.

Read the following rave reviews from DVD Talk.  This reviewer really explains the phenomenon of the show.

Great cinematography, music, and acting, especially noteworthy for a show that never had reruns and was, depending on the season, 1 hour a week or 1 and 1/2 hour of week of air time.

I had never watched the show during the first season, but then the summer of '65, my older girl cousins wanted to stay out on the boardwalk at the beach where we were all vacationing.  I was younger and had an earlier curfew and they insisted that I watch each episode and fill them in upon their return.  Rodney Harrington [Ryan O'Neill] was on trial for murder.  Well I was hooked from then on.  :-)

If you feel hesitant about purchase, try it out by renting from Netflix.  I guarantee you will fall in love with the characters of Peyton Place!

RE: The new DVD Set of Peyton Place

AMAZING! This is one of the best DVD sets that Shout has ever put out! Like the earlier post I myself was not around during the original broadcast of the show, or i was just a baby and couldnt see the TV from my crib!  I had always wondered what the whole hubbub was about, I had read all the articles in the teen and movie magazines from that time, and didnt think much of it, but now that ive actually seen the first season sets one and two. WOW! im hooked! I for one would be first in line to purchase the rest of the series! I sure hope the rumors that the color episodes will be released is true! I agree that I would like to see some extras also, interviews with the surviving cast etc.....I had only seen Barbara Parkins in Valley of the Dolls, but I actually love her work in this! She is definately one of my favorites! so pretty too! Thanks again Shout keep em comin'!
