Bencasey said on SitcomsOnline that one of the stations in his area aired the show in uncut form, and in gorgeous remastered quality (of course, stop me if I'm wrong on this one). So therefore, I see absolutely no reason why MGM won't provide those to Shout! Factory. |

The only thing tempering my joy is the whole "26" episode thing. I'd really like to hear the reason behind this. They better put in a lot of extra goodies to make up for this!

You don't need 6 discs to hold 26 episodes (unless the release is single layer). Although I have favorites in all three seasons, season one has many of the shows best episodes. Really looking forward to it |

Member since: 1/30/2007 | | RE: The Patty Duke Show! | To Brian Ward and the Shout! crew . . . . . thank you very much for taking a chance on "The Patty Duke Show." I will enthusiastically support this release which I haven't seen since it went off the air in the mid-1960s.
As far as extras, may I respectfully suggest that you include the pilot episode for the series, with different actors portraying "Martin Lane" and "Ross Lane." Apparently, the pilot has not been included in the syndication package so, if you can get your hands on this, it would make a terrific bonus. Also, perhaps for season 2 or 3 (assuming we get that far), please consider including the 1999 reunion tele-movie "Still Rockin' in Brooklyn Heights." Of course, if you could round up any of the surviving cast members for 2009 interviews and/or episode commentaries that would be the icing on the cake.
In any event, you're going to make a lot of Baby Boomers happy with this upcoming release.

I bought an "alternate" set from a website that does a good job on homemade dvds, but definitely want an official release. i am 3/4 of the way through season 1 but will rewatch the official release for the better quality. Hope 26 is a typo, and they mean 36 episodes, the complete season.

Season One was probably the best of the three so I would hate to see any of those episodes not included!

Member since: 4/23/2008 | | RE: The Patty Duke Show! | This is good news, but I won't need the DVD's because I already have the complete series, 104 episodes uncut in superb quality. I recently recorded the uncut episodes from digital cable TV on to VHS-SP, then transferred the taped episodes on to 26 DVD's. The shows look great, it is basically 10 out of 10 quality. I also have the rare pilot episode and the reunion movie Still Rockin In Brooklyn Heights. Will be interesting though to find out if the DVD's issued by Shout will also have the uncut episodes.
Season three is my favorite, but each season contains good episodes.
I have seen two versions of the 1st season episode House Guest. There is an older version, and the newer restored version that is currently shown on TV. Both versions contain scenes that the other version does not have. The new one is the better version, I imagine this is the version that will be placed on the DVD from Shout Factory.

Could you go into more detail about the differences in the episode House Guest? I'm curious as to why there would be two versions out there.

Watch it and then watch the new uncut version aired from This TV. You will notice the differences, some differences are very subtle and you have to watch close in order to notice. One difference I noticed is the scene where Patty and family raid the refrigerator at night is in the new version aired on This TV, but the scene is absent in the video posted on you tube. |

Another example is in the tag scene prior to the closing credits. In the version posted on you tube, there is a spoken line by William Schallert that is absent from the This TV airing. And in the scene prior where Cathy goes to visit Aunt Pauline, there is a spoken line by Aunt Pauline in the you tube video but the line is absent in the This TV airing. Another difference- in the This TV airing there is a scene with Cathy and William Schallert having a discussion prior to Cathy's visit with Aunt Pauline. This scene is absent in the you tube video. |

Member since: 1/12/2007 | | RE: The Patty Duke Show! | Sorry for not keeping up with the thread, guys. I've been so busy with this one, as well as a handful of other projects. I can say that the timing all seems to add up and the first season of The Patty Duke Show will be released uncut. And, yes, I believe that was a typo. There are 36 episodes within the first season.
The pilot will not be included, due to a rights issue with Fox/MGM. However, as to be expected, the finale (if I remember correctly) is a flashback episode that uses a lot of the scenes from the original pilot. That episode is there and in tact.
The sole bonus feature on this disc will be a featurette looking back on the show with four members of the original cast, including Patty herself, William Schallert, Paul O'Keefe and Eddie Applegate. It's a very touching piece. Can't wait to get your thoughts.
The discs ship to the plant today and everything looks and sounds great. There will be captioning on this set, for those wondering.
Any questions? I'll be happy to answer 'em.

I don;t think there would be any rights hangups in putting this commercial on the DVD (in future season sets if this one is already put to bed).
Also, how is the built in "The Patty Duke Show is brought to you by:" in the tag handled? Is that left in or faded out before we hear it? |

What about the reunion movie? Is that a future possibility?

I have seen it and it's actually a great way to start off the series even though 2 cast members are different. Would be great to have it in DVD quality. Anyhow, hoping to see Shout complete this series too. If they kept up with the same packaging/format, it would be a terrific complete set to own. |
