Extras for Transformers releases

Glad to hear Shout!Factory has gotten the release rights to both The Transformers and G.I.JOE, I know you guys are going to do a much more better job with these series then Rhino did. And knowing that Shout!Factory produces some excellent extras, I know these releases are in good hands.

But I can't help myself and throw out a few ideas for extras:

. Season 5 - While this season didn't have any new episodes, it did have a new opening title sequence and live action footage of a kid (named Tommy Kennedy) interacting with a stop motion puppet of Powermaster Optimus Prime. Used 15 episodes of from the show as well as taking the 1986 movie and cutting it up into 5 parts. I'd love to see this footage (although license rights might pervent it) and I wouldn't be bothered if these episodes weren't included fully, just as long as the opening, Powermaster Prime sequences and narrations were included in some form. Hell, even just including the opening would be something as this season has never been released in any form and finding the episodes is extremely difficult.

. Toy Commercials - No brainer this one. Would love to see some classic G1 toy commericals, hopefully ones that haven't been released constantly, like the Micromaster commericals. I'll take what I can get though. Would love to see high quality versions of the 1987 commericals since they had the best animation of all the commericals.

. Scramble City - Japanese OAV episode that was released in 1986. Sony released a copy of it on their 20th Anniversary edition release of Transformers: The Movie but that release only had a fan commentary on it lacking the original Japanese audio. Yet again, I can see this one being a problem with license rights.

. Commentary - Maybe commentaries for a couple of episodes from writers or voice actors?

There's also the Japanese exclusive G1 shows, Headmasters, Super-God Master Force and Victoy along with the OVA Zone, but I wouldn't be surprised if these along with Scramble City don't get a release from Shout!Factory. I know Sunbow bought the (horrid) english dubs for the 3 main shows (not the 2 OVAs since dubs of those weren't produced), but I seriously doubt Shout!Factory will release these shows with those dubs, unless they get the rights to the actual Japanese versions and include the engrish audio for humorous effect.

Choosing between cake and death is easy. Choosing between GODZILLA VS MEGALON and death is not.

I am hoping Shout! doesn't have all the grain that the Rhino ones have. Between that and Rhino's fantastic audio enhancements (they claimed was in the original broadcasts so I have read) was enough to make a person go mad.

Does anyone know if there are different copies of the masters.....i am guessing  only Brian  could answer that on here, but he cant talk about it right now. But if there only one set of masters....i mean to my knowledge Shout has never cleaned up any of their toon pictures, no remastering nothing.....

Actually, Mango Sound & Video only made that claim when talking to the TF fandom. In official press releases, the stated reason was so the DVDs could have the Dobly 5.1 logo. However, someone either at Mango Sound & Video or at Rhino messed up and used the audio with added effects on both the stereo and 5.1 tracks instead of just the 5.1 for seasons 1 and 2. If the audio had been done as planned, I would have been fine with the extra sounds on the 5.1 tracks.

As for the video, Rhino used the production masters, which had a bunch of errors that were fixed on the broadcast masters. Rhino did have access to the broadcast masters, as Rhino had used them on the VHS releases, and on the remastering comparison included on the 4th disc of their season 1 set.

Hopefully Shout! uses the original broadcast audio and video, only changing stuff to remove defects from the physical media and simple errors like correcting the audio speed on the second half of War Dawn.

The speed issues with Act 2 of "War Dawn" have been there in every version of the episode I've seen, including both VHS releases (Rhino and FHE) and on broadcast (either Sci-Fi or the original syndie run; I can't recall which my old VHS bootleg came from). Now, the issues with "Fire on the Mountain", as seen in the '90s Canadian release, those need to be fixed.
