With rights issues, Shout Factory sticking to the 4 disc format or keeping its contract to produce MST3K disc. In the end, how many volumes will there be? 30-40 ? |

Even those episodes owned by giant corporations are considered fair game if the economy continues to be sluggish, and said companies are looking to earn any money they can. At this point, I do think there are enough episodes considered to be attainable for SF to keep releasing 4-disc volumes for another two to three years (based on their current pace). Beyond that, once those episodes run out, it's anyone's guess as to what Shout! would do next. |

I just have one request: if you ever re-release episodes previously released by Rhino, I hope you don't put them in mixed sets with previously unreleased episodes. I've got all the Rhino releases, as well as Shout Factories, and I'd hate to have to purchase an episode I already have to get a new one. |

Member since: 6/22/2008 | | RE: How many Volumes ? | | After the interview with Jordan Fields revealed that previously released eps from Rhino COULD be re-released via SF, alot of people have voiced concerns about mixing newly released eps with ones from Rhino's library. If I were in SF's shoes, what I would do is take eps from OOP sets (volumes 9 & 10) that didn't have rights issues and put them all in one set (or sets); it would at least give the fans who can't afford those sets a chance to have at least some of those eps. Furthermore, has anyone noticed the single-issue DVD of The Hellcats has gradually become OOP (just like Beginning of the End)? Something tells me that similar such releases Rhino made earlier in the decade could become out-of-print in the near future as well, now that BBI is no longer under contract with them. Just more episodes for Shout! to consider acquiring once the attainable, yet-to-be released shows run dry. |

Combining 9 and 10 is ok & fair for those not owning the original sets..., but ultimately I think SF should focus on new episodes...except when an upgrade is in order like Dead or Atomic as I mentioned...

They are going terribly out of print.

I don't see much chance of that happening. At least until the well of previously unreleased episodes runs dry.

Member since: 6/22/2008 | | RE: How many Volumes ? | | I gotta agree with MrTorso, it's only a matter of time when the Rhino releases will be pulled, especially now that the MST3K name is under a different distributor. For example, I was stunned to recently see the single release of "The Hellcats" be selling for a much higher price on both eBay and Amazon; for the asking price of that, you could get a non-volume 9 or 10 four-disc box set and "The Essentials" release. Once rights start expiring on the big box sets, you may see SF buying certain titles, and using the out-of-print status as a reason (or excuse, depending on how you view this) for doing so. |
