GI Joe DVDs...

Regarding the G.I. Joe cartoon series on DVD,

I have to admit that I am having controversial feelings about this release of GI Joe DVDs. DO NOT GET ME WRONG: I am excited that they are finally back on DVD-- only reason why I did not buy it first time around was because it did not have closed caption enclosed or any English subtitles. I do realize that it does cost money to get it hosted and typed, etc. However, I do know several people who are deaf or hard of hearing who want to get their hands on these DVDs. I really would appreciate it if they actually add some English subtitles and/or captioning of some kind in order for us (deaf and hard of hearing) to enjoy these episodes.

If some of you really think my suggestion is a drag because of my disability (i.e. politically correct concept of debating)... I would suggest you to understand how we feel when we watch DVDs that has no captioning of some kind is to mute it the entire time you watch the DVD and let us know if you enjoy it.

I personally am going to buy it ONLY if it has captions or subtitles in it...

This WILL make a big difference in the DVD sales aspect. For example, ThunderCats the DVD box set is entirely subtitled in English (including the back story-- interviews and extras) versus Transformers DVD (first round). ThunderCats outsold Transformers by a significant number because many of the fans were happy with the DVD itself.

I don't think your suggestion is a drag at all. While I can't comment on the Sunbow/Hasbro series, because I'm afraid I can't confirm our involvement in those DVDs (I don't know where David Lambert, Amazon, and Wal-Mart get these crazy notions...), I can say that the thousands of dollars necessary to provide captioning on weekday series often make it impossible to release those series with captioning and/or subtitles. Still, we're always looking for easier ways of providing them. Fingers crossed... Brian

What box art? There wasnt any boxart for GI Joe  posted on tvshowsondvd, just the news of it. Are you talking about the art work for GI Joe orTransformers? If your talking about Transformers the picture of the box art does have the Shout logo on it.

I'm not sure where exactly this post is going, but but in reference to the Shout logo on the spine art, heres the tvshowsondvdlink. At the bottom thats clearly the Shout logo. Maybe for legal reasons no comment from Shout can be made right now, but if Shout is not putting out Transformers...or GI Joe for that matter then someone has made a huge blunder......more likely than not its legal reasons

RE: GI Joe DVDs...

Now, what is the result about the subtitles issue?

I am still getting the feeling it was not answered directly regarding adding subtitles for Deaf and Hard of hearing...

So, the answer is "no" because it costs too much money?

RE: GI Joe DVDs...

it does cost too much money, but sadly, what Garson Foos ( the president of shout factory) hasn't learned yet is that there are 5 to 40 million deaf people in the world alone, one captioner i know charges 80 an hour, yes thats alot... but there are VOLUNTEERS & cheaper captioners out there who are willing to help, Shout factory.... you know.. you could always just buy an captioning machine and type the dialogue yourself [plate shatters] [yelling " i am beowulf"] etc etc... just type everything that is being said and done.

(seeing "im not going to buy this dvd unless it has captions") should of motivated shout factory to try harder, but apparently not.

Garson Foos, ive seen so many complaints... isn't it time for action? (at least TRY IT ONCE! do testing on a popular tv show that you know people will buy, put captions on it, and see how many "extra" customers get it, if you get sold out, now u know where the money really comes from, "the deaf & hard of hearing customers" especially  5 to 40 million deaf people in the world alone is extra potential business wouldnt you agree?
