Member since: 4/9/2007 | | Shout gets GI Joe Sunbow series!!!!!!! | tvshowsondvd.com just released the news that Shout will be doing the GI Joe sunbow series, I have been waiting for a company to release this for years and years, other than the Rhino releases years ago that were sub-par. I am just happy to be getting these toons on dvd after all these years, but please Brian, whoever is working on this project, I dont know if Hasbro is directing what they want this set to be,etc, or how much Shout has a hand in making direct decesions on this set, but please, GI Joe and the Transformer sets will sell well over 15,000 copies in the first year, please dont shaft the dvd packaging with slim cases! These sets deserve better than that. These are on the same level if not higher than the He-man sets the former BCI put out years ago and the packaging of those ws amazing, I know some people like slim casing for storage reasons but these deserve better, please digi-packs or standard dvd cases in a boxsleeve. Like I said before i am just happyto be getting the GI Joe toons, but please take this into consideration. thanks. |

Joe Mini Series of Revenge of Cobra and American Hero be released on DVD? When will G.I. Joe Season 1, Part 2 and G.I. Joe Season 2 be released on DVD? When will G.I. Joe The Movie be released on DVD?

They won't even consider scheduling the other sets until they see how the first set does. They'll be released when they're released, and chances are you'll hear about it MONTHS ahead of time, just like this first release.
That said, I am OVERJOYED to hear that Shout has got their hands on the Sunbow library! That now makes two of the biggest 80's cartoons studios covered by Shout - DiC and Sunbow (and, might I add, two of my faves!). I REALLY hope they put out sets of Visionaries and Inhumanoids as well... Those two have had little to no love on DVD over here. But good to know two of the "big three" from Sunbow are getting the Shout Factory treatment! (The third would be Jem, of course! Here's hoping that one gets a release too...) Transformers and G.I. Joe will be Day One grabs for me, I have complete faith in Shout Factory doing these sets RIGHT.
My big question about this set is, will it include the original two mini-series that kicked off the show? (A Real American Hero and The Revenge of Cobra, respectively?) |

This is an instance where you would not want to bail on a series even if previous volumes didn't sale well. I'm guessing all Joe sets will do well, though. |

Member since: 1/13/2009 | | RE: Shout gets GI Joe Sunbow series!!!!!!! | I'm sure that Shout will fix what Rino messed up. Rino didn't release the original pilot mini series on dvd starting with G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero 5 parter then G.I. Joe The Revenge of Cobra 5 parter. Then it starts with Season 1, which is my guess to why Shout is calling this first volume Season 1 part 1, since season one contains 65 episodes with the 10 mini series episodes added to that total. Also the title openings were wrong. Half way through Season one you started seeing the Season 2 opening with Serpentor and Sargent Slaughter. I'm sure Shout will put things right. I can't wait to get this release along with the Transformers set. Yo Joe!!!!!!!!!!! Transform and Roll Out!!!!!!!!!
Here is a list of episodes for the Sunbow and DIC series http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_G.I._Joe_episodes#Season_1

Member since: 3/18/2009 | | RE: Shout gets GI Joe Sunbow series!!!!!!! | | Actually, Rhino*did* release MASS and Revenge first-initially as a set with no special features, and then with a couple of interviews (Ron Friedman and Warv Wolfman) and a Snake Eyes figure. As for the first season, there were only 55 episodes-MASS and Revenge were rerun in '85-'86 to fill out a 65 episode run. The second season (and its intro) appeared in September of '86 (the 16th, IIRC). |

Member since: 4/9/2007 | | RE: Shout gets GI Joe Sunbow series!!!!!!! | | The memo said season 1 vol. 1 is going to be 700 mins. The 700 min count does throw things for a loop. The way the memo was worded it seems like the 10 episode miniseries isn't included but if you think about it, if there are 55 Season 1 episodes and the miniseries was 10, then technically, Season 1, Parts 1 & 2 could each be 700 minutes and include all 65 of those episodes. That would be around 1400 minutes or should be close. Guess we will see when the news hits. |

Member since: 2/22/2007 | | RE: Shout gets GI Joe Sunbow series!!!!!!! | | Rhino's Season 1, Part 1 clocked in at 705 and that didn't include the first two miniseries. I would guess that this set doesn't either. Don't forget that all the 5 parters were just released on DVD in toypacks recently (I did hear the quality wasn't very good, though), so I don't think they'll have 15 just released episodes on the first set. I've never really considered the first two miniseries as part of season 1, but I'd still like to see the two miniseries remastered and released someday if they aren't included with this set. If I were Shout!, I'd eventually release the two miniseries together, but after all the seasons and the movie are released. The toypacks would be long gone by then. |

Member since: 3/21/2009 | | RE: Shout gets GI Joe Sunbow series!!!!!!! | Regarding the G.I. Joe cartoon series on DVD,
I have to admit that I am having controversial feelings about this release of GI Joe DVDs. DO NOT GET ME WRONG: I am excited that they are finally back on DVD-- only reason why I did not buy it first time around was because it did not have closed caption enclosed or any English subtitles. I do realize that it does cost money to get it hosted and typed, etc. However, I do know several people who are deaf or hard of hearing who want to get their hands on these DVDs. I really would appreciate it if they actually add some English subtitles and/or captioning of some kind in order for us (deaf and hard of hearing) to enjoy these episodes.
If some of you really think my suggestion is a drag because of my disability (i.e. politically correct concept of debating)... I would suggest you to understand how we feel when we watch DVDs that has no captioning of some kind is to mute it the entire time you watch the DVD and let us know if you enjoy it.
I personally am going to buy it ONLY if it has captions or subtitles in it...
This WILL make a big difference in the DVD sales aspect. For example, ThunderCats the DVD box set is entirely subtitled in English (including the back story-- interviews and extras) versus Transformers DVD (first round). ThunderCats outsold Transformers by a significant number because many of the fans were happy with the DVD itself. |

Rhino's Season 1, Part 1 clocks in at 705 minutes while Shout! 1.1 clocks in at 480 minutes. I hope they aren't going to try to get 3 season 1 sets out of this. It will be forever until we get the rest of season 2 which is what all Joe fans are dying the most for. |

I am guessing since it is a new post on amazon it would stand to reason the 480 minutes is a mistake.

There is a link to the Shout! release on Amazon in this post:
http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/news/GI-Joe-Season-1-Part-1/11677
Either tvshowsondvd (with their initial post) or Amazon is wrong.
Shout has released some 65 set seasons in 3 parts and some in 2 parts for past shows, so I could see it going either way. |

Member since: 4/9/2007 | | RE: Shout gets GI Joe Sunbow series!!!!!!! | | I'd bet the tvshowsondvd is correct, namely because on a regular basis I see specs on amazon dvd listing that are inacurate, not saying it is for sure of course. But if it was 480 mins on 4-discs, that would mean roughly 5 episodes per disc....roughly 22 total for season 1 part 1.......if it was 700-705 mins on 4 discs it would be 7-8 episodes per disc and 31 or 32 total......to me the math stands to reason its going to probally be 705 mins. I mean who puts 4 or 5 episodes on one disc....unless there is a lot of special features on it. I mean for some reason if it is going to be 480 mins, then it is going to take forever to get all the sets out at that rate. All Shout has to do is pop basically 4 boxsets out and its done....not counting the first 2 mini-series, which was pre-season 1. |
