Member since: 8/22/2008 | | Vol. 16 Theories | Well, Brian has already pretty much said that they've got Vol. 16 locked up (or almost comletely locked up) already. And that it would be "pretty big". That said, let the speculation begin....
Perhaps by "big" could the set be 5 discs instead of 4, if they've gotten the Gamera rights?
Or if not that, possibly they've gotten all of the Russo/Finish type films for a complete "set", so to speak?
Day The Earth Froze
Sword And The Dragon
Magic Voyage Of Sinbad
Jack Frost
Either one of those sets would be absolute gravy for me. |

Member since: 2/15/2009 | | RE: Vol. 16 Theories | Here is my guess -
101 - The Crawling Eye
323 - The Castle of Fu Manchu
818- Devil Doll
1007 -Track of the MoonBeast
My guesses are based on Brian said he moved something from Volume 15 to Volume 16 and my guess is it was a sci fi era episode - my thought of this set was to have a couple big episodes from CC and SciFi and an average one plus the one that was bumped for this set. I think there were at least 2 SciFi episodes in line for this set already. That's a Happy Theory :) Since I read the SOL page I know it wont be Puma Man so I wont on the next set so I updated my predictions accordingly.. |

Member since: 1/24/2008 | | RE: Vol. 16 Theories | Hey no fair you stole my theory LOL - its all good. I will play along anyway even though I was 100% wrong last time. I am thinking along the same lines that the episode Brian moved to this volume is a sci fi channel episode - and I wouldve figured to have at least 2 from the sci fi channel era & a 3rd. I think Happy's set is almost too good !
Volume 16 - I dont think the Crawling Eye is coming yet, but I would also love that to come out. I think another Season 1 PD title will come out and here are my other guesses..
- 105 - The Corpse Vanishes
- 205 - Rocket Attack USA
- 1005 - Blood Waters of Dr Z
- 1007 Track of the Moonbeast
I still feel just like last time that Season 10 is only 2 episodes away that Brian can easily get and I can see them both released at the same time. Brian also has dug into the first season so I can see this one coming up next, since we can not have a set with too many fan favorite episodes. As for Season releases well Season 1 is on the radar. At some point the remaining Season 2 stuff will come out except for Godzilla. I dont see anything from Season 3 for a long time(if anything shows 322,323,324). And I think Season 4 will get some love in not too distant future volumes. Season 5 & 6 are in Volume XV with a good handful from each season easily obtainable. Season 7 maybe at some point, Season 8 there are only 3 episodes easily obtainable here too ( 816-818). Season 9 there are a couple of easy ones....and I mentioned Season 10 already. At some point Brian will have to ask for the hardest episodes just to keep the sets coming out (at least not for a few years)... I would have said Puma Man but after reading the Satellite News I doubt it will be in this set, so I am picking another Joel episode...

Member since: 5/7/2008 | | RE: Vol. 16 Theories | As long as we're "wish-listing" Volume 16, here's a short list of episodes I'd like to see fast-tracked to commercial DVD release:
Any of the Season 2 Robert Lippert movies:
Lost Continent
Rocketship X-M
King Dinosaur
Jungle Goddess
combined with
A Roger Corman movie like Teenage Caveman or Viking Women And The Sea Serpent
Robot Holocaust
Amazing Colossal Man or War of the Colossal Beast
Any Gamera movie or Fugitive Alien episode
Of course there are plenty others I'd love to see on commercial DVD from Shout Factory:
Rocket Attack USA
Warrior of the Lost World
Hercules (original with Steve Reeves)
Hercules And The Captive Women
Being From Another Planet
Crawling Eye
Slime People
"Better Smeg Than Dead" -- Red Dwarf |

Member since: 6/22/2008 | | RE: Vol. 16 Theories | Wow! Volume XV won't be out for another three months or so, and yet we're already speculating on Volume XVI?? Yessir, I've found my place in this world!
For those too bashful to comment on what might be coming up for the next set, there's no penalty or shame incurred here for making wrong guesses. I, myself, have not been right at all either, on any of SF's efforts to date. It's all good-natured speculation, and its just a small part of the joy it is to be a fan of this show. Part of the anticipation involves the probability list Travis Hosey came up with some time ago, and comparing what's come (or coming) out to what he has suggested as <EXTREMELY LIKELY> to <LIKELY> to <POSSIBLE> and so on. Imagine if Shout! releases something considered <UNLIKELY> or <EXTREMELY UNLIKELY>? It would bring all these talks to a whole new level, and maybe that's what might be in store for us in the future.
So, as long as we're making long-ranged guesses about XVI, here are mine:
- 101 The Crawling Eye: There's been a Season One tread going on, so I think they'll put this landmark episode out.
- 417 Crash of the Moons: The "General Hospital" shorts are now fair game, it's considered the better of the two Rocky Jones movies the show riffed, and Manhunt in Space has already come out. So why not?
- 705 Escape 2000: A personal fave of mine (just look at my username to know why), this is considered one of the few eps available for SF to obtain in the all-too-short Season 7.
- 903 Pumaman: Perhaps the most popular episode to yet come out on an official DVD release (along with Final Sacrifice), the time has come to put this out! It's among the best in the show's history!!
Also, I'd like to make a prediction about the color of the next set (because we know the design will be the same): red. If they do this, it would be the perfect time to include a TOM SERVO figurine!! Anybody, back me up on this!!! |

I think a few of us have the same theory for Puma Man and something from Season 1 - I tend to think we will get 3 sci fi shows this time. Puma Man + 1 that I think the set already has and plus 1 - the one bumped to this set due to Zombie Nightmare. I think this Volume 16 will have both available Season 10s in it.
I just love guessing
and the blue box is really cool !

Season 3 stuff would be a treat...
Oh as for the above comment about Devil Doll, I went with that based on you cant have a fan favorite heavy set so if it is Crawling Eye and Puma Man I could see something like Devil Doll..

As for my list, I don't know how possible any of them are, but I'd love to see:
0323 - The Castle of Fu Manchu (one of my all-time favs)
0420 - The Human Duplicators
0817 - Horror at Party Beach (probably my fav Mike episode)
0903 - Puma Man
I like the even Joel/Mike split. But I'd be happy with any four movies really. If I had to sub one for Joel and Mike, I think I'd go with Attack of the the Eye Creatures (love adding the extra the) and Alien from L.A. (underrated in my opinion).
Just my two cents :) |

The Gamera series had 2 USA versions, Sandy Frank and AIP. 2 Gamera movies did not get the Sandy Frank versions (Gamera vs Viras and Gamera vs Monster X) . My guess is AIP and Sandy Frank have different 'owners' of the dubs (??)
Gamera the 1st had a 3rd version called Gammera with 2 M's with a hip song "Gammeraaaaaa"
Super Monster was made 9 years after Zigra and contained nothing but stock footage save for a few scenes of Gamera flying. It is Super Awful... |

Member since: 7/16/2007 | | RE: Vol. 16 Theories | I'm not sure what Kadokowa's policy with the AIP-TV versions, the international dubbed versions, and then the few Sandy Frank dubbed versions is (for example: Toho has say over all of the versions of Godzilla, despite who originally dubbed them/distributed them). Apparently Kadokawa is looking in to authorized DVDs (http://www.tohokingdom.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=19988&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0) . The Showa Gamera films really need to have their copyrights restored and licensed to a new U.S. distributor.
And just for clarification:
Gamera - NTA theatrical version (with added American scenes) + Sandy Frank dub home video version
Gamera vs. Barugon - AIP-TV version + International dub version (released by Sandy Frank)
Gamera vs. Gaos - AIP-TV version + International dub version (released by Sandy Frank)
Gamera vs. Viras - AIP-TV version only
Gamera vs. Jiger - AIP-TV version only
Gamera vs. Guiron - AIP-TV version + International dubbed version (released by Sandy Frank) *(though I'm still not sure if SF did the different dub or not)
Gamera vs. Zigra - Sandy Frank dubbed version only
Gamera Super Monster - Filmways TV version only

Member since: 3/1/2009 | | RE: Vol. 16 Theories | Here's my wish list for XVI:
-205 Rocket Attack USA (#99)--Considering the Robert Lippert episodes won't be making it to DVD sometime soon, this seems to be the only likely Season 2 episode left be released to DVD. So why not?
-412 Hercules and the Captive Women (#110)--This one and Season 5's Hercules (#103) are pretty much easy pickings for SF, and ever since Rhino has released those other two Hercules episodes on Volume 7, I've been wondering what's the holdup on these two episodes.
-813 Jack Frost (#3)-- Since the #1 & #2 choices from that Rhino Poll a while back don't really have the chance to come to DVD--well, #2 anyway--there's still the possibility of releasing the #3 choice here, which is still one of the funniest episodes ever made in the later period.
-819 Invasion of the Neptune Men (#41)--Nothing better than a cornball Japanese flick! We've seen Prince of Space released, now it's this guy's turn.
Speaking of Japanese flicks, I'm still waiting to see whether or not the Gamera films will have a chance. I know it's possible, but we still don't know for sure. It's saying a lot if these episodes do, because I loved Gamera as a kid.
Those flicks and the Wade Williams-licensed ones are the episodes I'm still wondering about. Having the very first MST3K episode The Crawling Eye (#14) will be very remarkable, especially because SF had already released a Season 1 episode and still has another one on the way. But that's just me. |

Member since: 6/22/2008 | | RE: Vol. 16 Theories | Brian, that's great to hear the movies for Volume XVI are already locked in. I'm guessing the next step is coming up with the extras for that set? How about Crow and Servo's appearances on E!'s Talk Soup or CBS's early morning show? Or a sit-down interview with two cast members (like what Rhino did with Mike Nelson and Kevin Murphy on Volume 5). I think Paul Chaplin and Mary Jo Pehl being interviewed at the same time would be hilarious, since they were known to always trade barbs back and forth with each other.
As much as I want to, I won't hound you for clues about the next volume, but do you know when you'll be able to release the info on it?
To dsman71: I think SF acquiring The Amazing Colossal Man would be nothing short of amazing itself, but I won't be holding my breath due to the issue rights involved with Rhino putting it out on VHS all those years ago (and its subsequently quick pull from the shelves). |

Member since: 6/22/2008 | | RE: Vol. 16 Theories | With Shout's recent "officially" released statement about Volume XV, how soon after July 7 will news about Volume XVI become available? Brian has already stated that the episodes are in place, and what can be used as extras is becoming clearer with Jordan Fields' interview discussing the topic. The only thing keeping the release from taking extra time are those designs for those lobby cards for each movie, and even then I'm sure the artist(s) get a heads-up about the movies that are coming out next.
So, B Ward's statement about the selection on the next release really have me wondering what's in store. Will there be a pleasant surprise, like The Crawling Eye or Attack of the the Eye Creatures or a Gamera episode? Has the owner of "Puma Man" come forward with proper documentation and given permission to license their now-infamous movie? Or has the owner of "Final Sacrifice" had a change of heart? Or has SF cracked into that tough nugget known as the "first half of Season 8"? Whatever the case, if Shout can obtain at least one film once thought unlikely to show up for XVI, then it will bode well for future releases. |
