WKRP rebuttal
I UNDERSTAND YOUR POINT....I'm just throwing it out there; maybe they will pick up the ball and run with it...MOONLIGHTING has the original music; MIAMI VICE has the original music; SOPRANOS; even MURPHY BROWN--the first season DVD contains the Motown songs from the show.  MIAMI VICE cut certain songs, and left others in. If it's impossible, it's impossible--but I'M MAKING A SUGGESTION....ISN'T THAT WHAT THIS FORUM IS FOR? IT COULDN'T HURT!

RE: WKRP rebuttal
Suggest away, my friend.  I just don't want you to get your hopes up to have them crushed.  Not trying to be mean, just stating a sad, sad fact.

RE: WKRP rebuttal
Just chiming in here - I was under the impression that Miami Vice was released on DVD with ALL originally used music intact, no?

Wait a minute... who am I here?

RE: WKRP rebuttal
Most likely, you are correct.  But that doesn't change the fact that the company that owns WKRP doesn't want to spend the money to make it happen for this show too.  And while Miami Vice did have a lot of music in it, it did a lot of it's licensing when it originally aired, unlike WKRP, when getting licensing to broadcast music wasn't nearly as difficult.  But the music companies have gotten greedier since the late 1970s and early 80s, when WKRP could essentially use whatever music they wanted.

Your life is an occasion -- rise to it.

RE: WKRP rebuttal
it was in the 1990's when  WKRP music licensing changed... when the show was broadcast on Nick at Nite, the music including Jennifer's doorbell chime had to be changed because the material was too expensive to license. I feel fortunate to have seen every episode in reruns in the mid to late 80's before the change and there ain't enough money in the world to get me to purchase any of the released DVD sets unless they are as broadcast. So with that said will be content with my 80's TV recordings.

As for Miami Vice, the show was indeed released on DVD with all original music included. Nothing was changed for those releases.

WKRP is currently owned by 20th Century Fox while Miami Vice is a Universal property and I agree 100% and then some that the music companies and license holders have gotten greedier since the 70's and 80's.

Prime examples: Married With Children(theme replaced on later DVD seasons because Sony could not license Sinatra's Love and Marriage), George Lopez(No opening on DVD because Low Rider could not be licensed), Joan of Arcadia(some episodes have no opening credits because the Joan Osborne song could not be licensed), In Living Color(Musical numbers and song parodies cut from DVD release), and on and on and on. It NEVER ends with the music industry. They are greedy plain and simple and just want to take, take, take and not give nothing back.
