Hey, I can relate! I'm a Captain N fan, myself. I just have one beef with Shout Factory about this release. On Disc 3, in the episode "Queen of the Apes," immediately after Princess Lana says "Because I'm begging you," about two minutes of footage got skipped, and this isn't on my copy alone. Others who have purchased it have experienced this problem. I'd thank the Goddess (Dragon Quest reference) once Shout Factory will eventually fix this little error, and do a Disc Replacement program.

I also wish to see "When mother brain rules" but DiC doesnt own any rights to that episode so we wont be seeing it on the sets.

Maybe it would be possible, if NBC allowed it to be put on the final Nintendo/DiC cartoon boxset - Captain N & The New Super Mario World. Maybe that might be a good possible extra.

It would be possible if anyone had any information on that episode. DiC doesn't and swears they didn't produce it. It's doubtful that NBC still has a master lying around after all these years.

Still looking into it all.

Hmmm... I know I haven't bought the box set as I've heard news about the "Queen of the Apes" glitch, but for info of When Mother Brain Rules here http://www.ultimatewarpzone.com/episodes/epi27.html and Brian, you should ask TuxedoMark at the Ultimate Warp Zone if you haven't done so. Besides When Mother Brain Rules is just a clip show with Simon Belmont talking so people aren't going to miss much.

Really glad that the original version of How's Bayou? (Version 1) is included.

The only downside with the first version of How's Bayou? is that it doesn't have Bayou Billy calling Kevin "Bayou Kevin."

Man I can't wait to get it! Captain N was such an awesome series. And yes I know that you couldn't put season 3 in there but I know that's not shout factory's fault but did you really have to call it the COMPLETE series? I'm looking forward to the DVD, I just wish it had a more accurate title (like The Complete First and Second seasons)

Its DiC fault, they labeled it as a complete series and Shout had to follow with that. Whoever did that really should of renamed it. Honestly it should of been called Captain N: The Game Master Volume One and Two to avoid confusion.

Are replacement discs going to be sent out to people who purchased the DVD set? I was pretty dismayed at the "Queen of the Apes" glitch when I played it. BCI has had issues with some of their discs in the past (some of the He-Man and She-Ra sets) and they have always had good customer service and sent out replacement discs. I would expect Shout! to do the same thing. Also is their a glitch with "How's Bayou?" It seems like the crocodile is after Kevin and then all of a sudden it cuts to the Pitfall type guy on top of the crocodile. It's not as noticable as the "Queen of the Apes" issue, but I am wondering is that a glitch as well?

Yeah, my DVD also has the same problem with "How's Bayou?". Kinda distracting at times with all the random cuts and oddities in that episode, especially with yellow backgrounds for no reason. Haven't gotten around to the "Queen of the Apes" episode yet.

Actually, How Bayou didnt have a glitch. I thought it was one when i saw it, but i found out there were two different versions of How Bayou. NBC only played it once durning its original airing but when it was on other channels, there were another version made for it. Why? I dont know, if Brian or anyone else knows, i would like to know too. But there is no error on that episode.

Also speaking of errors, watching Queen of the Apes again and watching the Family Channel version i have, the missing cut really had nothing too important that we missed on the dvd set, trust me. All it was alot of action, it doesnt effect any of the storyline in the series. I, too, would be happy for a disc replacement, but i dont think its really necessary.

RE: glad captain n is out

Apparently someone from the Ultimate Warp Zone found problems with Simon the Apeman episode with little cuts here and there (plus the no title card at the beginning) as well as repeated footage that might not meant to be there. I've only seen Season 3 of this show (still airing today over where I am) and a couple of the 1 season so I don't really know if that's true.

Yes there are two versions of How's Bayou?, the random glitches are actually a sign of being unfinished as it was rushed to make it near the airdate so you are actually seening the 1st version. A later version was made to be more complete and that's the more common version. Also NBC might have chosen the wrong version to air, a mix up that got sorted right. Sort of wished that they did that with a few Mario episodes in particular.

nintendolink007: Please do. I would like to see a honest review of the set. For some reason I don't trust places like IGN or that for the reviews, but from people.

RE: glad captain n is out
Well to start off my review of the Captain N DVD set, i want you to know i'll be reviewing the set, and not the series. The reason i say this is cause alot of people have been complaining that the fact that its not a complete set as it says on the box. When i heard season 3 isnt part of this set, i was angry as much as you guys are, but thats not Shout's fault, its DiC's fault for the way they archive their catalog of cartoons. I'll be grading the review with 1-10 with 10 being the highest and 1 being the lowest....duh. Well heres my review on the dvd set we have in our hands:

Presentation:

Pros: Well after seeing the menu design and setup for the Legend of Zelda and Super Mario Brothers Super Show, i was very impressed on Shout treated the series instead of throwing them out like some companies. Zelda had sorta weekest menu design compared to all the sets that are avaiable right now with Captain N being one of my favorites with the NES design that keeps with the series. The introduction was new to the Video Game sets that DiC and Shout have released in the past couple of years. Can't wait to see how Sonic SatAM, Adventure of Sonic, and Adventure of Super Mario 3 will turn out.

Cons: Honestly i didn't see any flaws with the menu design for exception for one item, the intro when it does the opening of Captain N. You can, obiously, tell the cuts they did and i find it a bit distracting. But thats a very minor con that dont effect anything.

Score: 9

Video:

Pros: Wow, just wow. I never seen such good quality in a decade and a half series. I say it did quite good as far as quality at least for a 1989 series turned out. I do not have a HDTV or any HDTV dvd player so i dont know if it'll look better or not but i love how the turn out was for the series and its exactually how i remember it plus better, since back durning that time i had a 32in tv that we didn't have cable at the time.

Cons: Well there are at least two cons i found while watching the set and one is sorta big as far as preservation but also really didn't effect the story line. There was a "cut" that was on the masters itself that made it to the dvds that took out 2 minutes of the episode "Queen of the Apes". Now i have the old VCD of Captain N and rewatched that episode and really the cut wasn't a big issue to begin with but i do have to judge the turnout since really i'm disappointed that it didnt get caught and fixed before the release, if there is some kinda disc replacement, i'm all for it but really its not a big deal since the episode was not the best in the series.

The other con, which i kinda find disturbing, is the picture shakeness in Kevin in Videoland. At times i find it to be a problem, but i'm use to that kinda thing from all the cartoons i have on VCD so i'm use to it but i'm sure others find it to be a problem.

Score: 8

Audio:

Pros: The music quality is pretty good, matter of fact its alot better then my vcd and the downloaded episodes i have collected through out the years. Its a great bonus to have the original intact in Season 2 that brings back so many memories that i haven't had since the days it was aired on NBC.

Cons: Now heres were it gets a bit vid and the reason why i'd score it so low and its mostly the fact that i find it disturbing that Season 2's music stayed in tact but Season 1 did not. My favorite of Season 1 was the Thriller that a girl sung but it would of brought back more memories if they got the rights to have them intacted. But i guess my VCDs will not be going away since all the original music is still on the episodes. Hopefully Season 3 will have them intact too.

Score: 8

Extras:

Pros: I like the design of the Character Profiles and Narriation, thats great to know stuff i didnt know about N Team and Mother Brain's Goons. The Preview for Kevin in Video land was great way to get into the series and the Captain Nintendo story is very interested to read and compare that to the cartoon series itself.

Cons: Well really is what i was most disappointed the most about the whole dvd more then the missing audio from Season 1. It could of used a few more profiles, but obiously the profiles were more towards the characters more in the series then anything else. Now just like how they did it for Legend of Zelda, they should of made the Captain Nintendo story downloadable in PDF format instead of reading it on the screen, it would of been better to have a printout and read it from there.

Score: 7

Overall:

Wow, just wow. I was very impressed and happy with the set, despite the few issues i think that could of need improvement. I mean even a perfect DVD set can also have room for improvements so don't hold that against me. My wishes were that all the promos and commerical break cuts made it to the dvd set but sadly they didnt have the rights to do that, but yet the music for Season 2 stayed in tact even though it was suppose to be cut. There is alot of good things and alot of bad things about this set but really you can't go wrong with it. If you are a fan of video games, espcially Nintendo, you'll like this series. Its what every gamer and nerds dream of all rolled up in a cartoon series. There was alot of things i wish DiC would of done to finish this series up but of course it wasnt in their control durning its time. It would of been nice to see the series conclusion somewhere down the road but other then the fanfics for the series, i dont think we'll see anything to end it nicely.

I'm just hoping that with the sales and that Nintendo can finally get the issue with Yoshi fixed up so Shout can release Captain N & Super Mario World out so we can finally get all the captain n series on dvd. But i guess we'll just have to wait and see. But overall its a great pickup and great to add to your collection

Score: 8

Too bad the Captain N series never got a proper ending. I sorta wonder what decision Kevin would make: go home, or stay in Videoland with Lana?

nintendolink007: The reason why the songs to season 2 were not edited out is because these songs were not copyrighted. They are exclusively songs made for Captain N. They weren't made by any song artist unlike the songs in season 1 which were.

Actually the songs for Season 2 are actually parody songs (like Into the Mouth of the Dragon is a parody of Working in the Coalmine and Frustrated from Germ Wars is similar to Can't Get No Satifaction by the Rolling Stones) for some episodes, others are original.

Just got an idea cooking up, why can't you mix the two together for a personal project? That's what I might be planning on for Super Mario Bros. Super Show (that's why I only have 14 episodes of it, long story), with the DVD picture and add in the original music for yourself. That way it would be as close as originally aired as possible. If only I could do that for Sonic Gems Collection.

The Captain N set is amazing, it is just as I remember it. I loved how Kevin and the "N-Team" met up with Zelda and Link and I was just wondering who you all would think they should have met up with next (if the series went on longer) I say the mario brothers, that would have been awesome to have the n-team helping the Mario's to stop king koopa! Any thoughts?

Well, it's not like they wanted to give the Marios a facelift, and King Koopa a more appropriate look. Even so, seeing Link and Zelda on Captain N is possibly a lot better than another season of Link saying "Saved your life again, Princess. Kiss me," and "Well, Excuuuuse me, Princess!"

On the on the third Captain N disk there is some kind weird flashing and image distortion throughout the entire episode of "Once Upon a Time Machine".

Is this a problem with the DVD that can be fixed?

I tried to e-mail costumer service but the e-mail bounced back saying "database has too many unique field names".

Sorry to bump this. I just started watching the DVD set I got for Christmas, and was searching for info about what's up with the second episode, How's Bayou, when I saw the talk of replacement discs for the third disc being pressed.

Are there corrected versions that have been sent to retail? If so, how do I tell if I need a replacement disc?

Thanks,
