Middle Man? Really?!?! Awe. Some.
Is it true?  Did I actually hear that Shout! is releasing Middle Man (ABC Family -2008) on DVD?  That. so. ROCKS.

I am currently working on The Middle Man, which is honestly just about a dream come true for me.  Creator Javier Grillo-Marxuach has been nothing but the best guy to work with.  It's so great when you have a creator/producers/stars/crew and a studio so in love with a project.  Everyone has been a joy to work with.

We're still early on in the process, but we're so far along.  Luckily, since the show aired as recently as last year, we have a lot to work with in terms of bonus material.  I'm expecting Javi to bring by a hard drive with roughly 20GB worth of material tomorrow.  Cannot wait to see it all!!

I'll keep you guys middle-posted.

This show was AMAZING, and deserved so much better than it got from ABC Family.  Besides that, I think I might be in love with Lacey Thornfield!  (Just kidding.  Mostly.  But, BOY is she cute!)

She is cute.  And unlike most projects I'm working on, she still looks the same today as she did then, so I don't feel so bad drooling.

Honestly, the more I deal with ABC-Family, the more I'm convinced the studios aren't entirely evil.  It's clear that everyone I've dealt with there LOVED this show.  Like us and some of our titles, they simply couldn't continue to spend the money on something that wasn't bringing in the advertising dollars.  But I haven't talked to a single person over there that doesn't hope this set blows everything else out of the water.

Seriously, I've been provided with SO much bonus content, I may have to turn stuff away or find someone like Best Buy who's interested in an exclusive bonus disc.  Don't get too excited and email Dave Lambert.  I didn't say that was happening.  I was strictly saying that we have a TON of bonus materials.  And we're not even done, yet.

If everyone at ABC Family loved this show so much, how come they did almost NO marketing for it?  I saw TONS of advertising and promotion for 'Life of the American Teenager', and didn't see ONE THING about Middle Man.  What gives?  Just curious.  But honestly, I think ABC Family made a mistake in not promoting this show better.  I truly believe they would have gained a larger audience for this, but for the advertising.

On the other side of the same coin, I give ABC Family credit for trying new things and putting out truly interesting new shows.  Loved Middle Man, Kyle XY, and Three Moons Over Milford (any possibility of that last one being released?  I'm a huge Elizabeth McGovern fan!)  I didn't think that Secret Life of the American Teenager was a bad show either.  Just that they seemed to promote it more than Middle Man.

I would indeed like to actively encourage ABC Family, TNT, and USA Network to continue releasing exciting, innovative new shows.

Oh, and Brian, you can send me ALL the bonus content you want!  Even if there's more bonus than show, I'd LOVE to see it all.  But then, I'm a geek.

Thing is, The Middleman simply wasn't a good fit for ABC-Family.  It wasn't the right audience.  While Secret Life of the American Teenager is absolutely their audience.

As for promotion, you may not think they did a lot, but there are promos and the like ALL OVER this bonus material.  I'm having to weed it out now.  So, while you may not have seen it, it was certainly produced and broadcast.

I actually agree with you on that.  Middle Man did seem an odd fit for ABC Family.  Perhaps we can convince them to sell to USA Network, and convince USA to put it on after Psych....

Now we're talking.

Speaking of The Middleman, have I mentioned just how great Javier Grillo-Marxuach has been to us??  Seriously, the bonus disc on this release is overflowing.

On one hand, I can't wait to see the final release come to fruition.  On the other, I really don't want to stop working on it.

Man, I understand that feeling.  I'm glad that Javier is so into his own terrific series!  It's nice when a creator likes his own stuff.  Hey, make the bonus stuff TWO discs if you want!  I want it all!  :D

I get the 'want to get it out, never want to stop working on it' feeling.  I did a homebrew set of 'Key West' (1993, Fisher Stevens, Jennifer Tilly -- maybe something Shout! should look into!) for a friend, and I spent about three months finding the best copies I could, remastering them, building menus and case covers, and a box for the set, and an episode guide...  But eventually, I just had to give it to him.  After all, his birthday did eventually come!  (By the way Brian, my birthday is coming up at the end of April...)  LOL!!!

Hello, I joined this site exclusively to post tin this thread. I really hope you'll consider releasing this series on Blu-ray as well as DVD. Given that this show aired in HD, I'm not very keen on settling for an inferior version. It deserves a BRD release, and I would most assuredly buy it. But as it stands, I'd just as soon stick with my DVRed copies from last summer. That's money that's just walkin' out the door! I do realize BRD manufacturing is more expensive, but great special features alone aren't avery compelling reasons to buy the set if I'm never gonna actually watch the versions of the episodes that are actually included. So please give it some thought. You'd have my money (and that of many others, I'm sure) in no time! Thanks.

If you do offer any extra extras to a specific retailer, could you give us a heads up on it? I've already got this pre-ordered through Amazon, but if someone else gets more bonus stuff, I'll get it from them.
